Grand old man of Indian politics, Sharad Pawar should quit from politics so that youngsters get opportunity in mainstream politics. His advice to farmers to stop paying electricity bills and other taxes till their loans are waived off by the government, is unacceptable. Loan waiver weakens banks and unpaid taxes weaken govt treasury with which a nation runs and progress. Politicians should not discourage waivers but strengthen farmers and citizens through govt schemes to earn their livelihood and pay appropriate taxes.
Loan waiver only encourages inefficiency and favours the dishonest. Govt should support farmers by supplying modern means of farming including hybrid methods that encourage mass produce. They need marketing support for better prices and cooperative societies can take care of that challenge. Also, tax agriculture income so that the taxes which the rich farmer pays can be used to give subsidies to the poor who have unpaid loan liabilities that they can’t discharge.
