We are dismayed after reading reports that in Punjab one girl died while reportedly resisting physical advancement by the bus crew. When the incident occurred few people were seated in the bus but no one came forward to help the victims. The Mogha molestation case rocked the Parliament as Congress demanded the imposition of President’s rule in Punjab. The bus belongs to Orbit Aviation, a company owned by Punjab Deputy Chief Minister Sukhbir Badal. The victim’s father alleged that he was being forced to reach a compromise on this matter. There is an urgent need to probe this matter and take action against the molesters. The incident has sparked widespread protests among citizens as many of them are comparing it with the 2012 Delhi gang rape incident.

See, how many family members of Punjab Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal are holding ministerial posts while we profess, “Sabka saath, sabka vikas”. On the ground, only few privileged are enjoying the fruits of power. There is a crying need of citizen development but who will do it? Before Lok Sabha elections, everyone expected that Narendra Modi will perform a good job. Therefore, I wholeheartedly wrote in support of him but now I am disappointed with his style of functioning.
If you make a provision that for proceeding against a government servant, prior permission of the government is required then we must forget about eradication of corruption. The government officers that include the police officers, must take up reformatory work vi-a-vis the society. You remember, I had criticized the state government’s proposal to open bars and restaurants for the entire night. Now even the political parties and people too are opposing the night life plan citing security reasons.
On the contrary, the police chief announces first, I will provide security. This is calculated to influence the final decision. When you can’t provide safety during the day time how can you provide the same for entire night? Will such a step make our citizens more healthy and wealthy? Some of the noble hearted citizens in the society must stand up and commence working for promoting health, primary education, sound civic habits and involve more and more women in such an effort. Finally the government must take steps to control the rising population which has become a huge cause of concern.
