Mother’s Day is celebrated in India on the second Sunday in the month of May. This year Mother’s Day falls on May 8. But in many other countries of the world, Mother’s Day is celebrated in an entirely different time of the year. But whatever may be the date and month of Mother’s Day around the world, the spirit is the same everywhere. Everywhere in the world mothers are respected for their extreme devotion towards their children.

Mother’s Day is celebrated to honour all mothers throughout the world and also to express their gratitude for the hardships they face in bringing up their children. The origin of Mother’s Day dates back to the era of ancient Greeks and Romans. In the U.K., Mothering Sunday was celebrated much before the celebration of Mother’s Day, which in its present form is a recent phenomenon and not even a hundred years old. Thanks to the hard work of the two pioneering women, Julia Ward Howe and Anna Jarvis, from whom the day came to be observed. Today, Mother’s Day is celebrated across 46 countries, though on different dates, and is a highly popular festival. The concept of celebrating Mother’s Day on the second Sunday of May is very new to India. In the presence of umpteen numbers of festivals, it is a remarkable achievement for a foreign festival to make its presence felt in the vast and culturally diverse country like India.

Just as in the West, many Indians too take Mother’s Day to reflect on the importance of mothers in their life. And on Mother’s Day children pay their humblest tribute to their mothers and also thank her for the best of care and upbringing. A mother is everyone’s best friend because she takes care of everything we need. We cannot live without our mothers and her caring love. She cares for us so much. Mother becomes happy when we laugh and she is sad when we cry. She is only one in this world who never leaves us alone. She is fully devoted to us like no one else in whole world. From our birth till her death, she cares for us like a small child. We cannot count her contribution in our lives. Even we cannot count her daily activities from early morning till late night.

A mother has very special place in the heart of her children. She takes care of her child about everything at each moment. Mother’s Day is a happiest and highly memorable day of the year for every kid. Mother’s Day is a special day of the year which has been dedicated for all mothers throughout the world.

Our mothers are like a security blanket to us because she saves us from all problems. She never regards her own problems and listens to us all the time.

Our mothers are very special. Even after being tired she always smiles at us. Our mother teaches us good manners, etiquettes, morality, humanity and helping those who are in need.
