Five members of a family tragically lost their lives to asphyxiation on Sunday in the Pandrethan area of Jammu and Kashmir’s Srinagar, officials reported.
The victims, a couple and their three children from the Uri area of Baramulla district, were discovered lifeless in their rented home after neighbors grew concerned about the lack of activity throughout the day. Authorities were alerted, and initial investigations confirmed the cause of death as asphyxiation.
The Valley is currently enduring its harsh 40-day winter period, forcing residents indoors and relying on traditional heating methods like braziers to stay warm.
The incident has prompted grief across the region, with Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha and former Chief Minister Omar Abdullah expressing their heartfelt condolences to the bereaved.
