Unjustified salaries and retirement benefits

It refers to media-reports about President, Vice President and Governors still getting monthly salaries much below as compared to the top bureaucrats and service chiefs since the laws are yet to be amended to rectify an anomaly with the implementation of recommendations of seventh Pay Commission made about two years back.

But the bill providing such high pay-jerk of Rs 5, 3.5 and 3 lakhs for President, Vice President and Governors is totally unjustified; firstly because with so many entitlements at cost of public-exchequer, these highly placed dignitaries do not at all require so much. Moreover, most of the persons posted on these posts are at their retirement-age with children and even grand-children well settled and in many cases, pensions for earlier held posts coming, such high salaries in a nation full of unemployment are not at all needed. System should be like that persons posted on these posts may get equal salaries equivalent to Union Cabinet Secretary and service-chiefs eliminating any discrimination between those holding top legislative and bureaucratic posts. Time has come when India may follow US where half of last-drawn salary is the only post-retirement benefit for a retired President without any entitlement of government-accommodation or secretarial-staff. With pensions abolished for government-servants, even pension for persons retiring from top legislative posts is not needed. Same yard-stick should be for judges of higher courts.
