Uttar Pradesh police filed the chargesheet in the Dadri lynching case on Wednesday against 15 persons including son of a local BJP leader.

Fifty-two-years old resident of Bishahra village in Dadri Mohammad Akhlak was murdered on September 28 by an angry mob due to rumours that he killed a cow. His son was seriously injured by the mob which attacked Akhlak’s house after announcements were made from the local temple that he and his family had killed a cow and ate beef.

Later, the forensic report found that the meat found from the fridge in Akhlak’s house was mutton and not beef. His family insisted all along that there was no beef in the house. The angry mob was allegedly incited by Vishal Rana who is son of the local BJP leader Sanjay Rana.

In his confession, Vishal told the police that he and his friend Shivam were shown a packet of meat which was allegedly beef and people present in the village told them that Akhlak was seen throwing the packet near the electric transformer in the village. Soon after that Shivam and Vishal went to the local temple and forced its priest to make an announce that Akhlak had killed a cow and ask people of the village to gather outside his house.

One suspect is a juvenile so he will be tried before the Juvenile Justice Board.

The statements given by Akhlaq’s daughter Shaista and his son Danish are the key witness statement of the case which became international headlines.

Chargesheet mentions, ”on 28th September, announcement was made from a temple claiming Akhlaq had cooked beef… soon a crowd had gathered which lynched Akhlaq and severely a‎ssaulted his son Danish”.

Two more men were arrested on Wednesday from Bishahra village, making total number of suspects to seventeen. Total number of accused is 19 and two of them are yet to be arrested.

A copy of the chargesheet is expected to be given to the lawyers tomorrow and details are awaited. Akhlak’s family has shifted out of village and staying with Sartaj who works as a technician in Indian Airforce in the national capital.
