Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal will be CM candidate for Punjab polls, said Delhi’s Deputy CM Manish Sisodia. Sisodia said this during the election campaign in Mohali.

“No matter who becomes the chief minister, the responsibility to fulfil all promises made by Aam Aadmi Party will be of Arvind Kejriwal,” Manish Sisodia said.

The Aam Aadmi Party has huge stakes in Punjab election and Arvind Kejriwal is campaigning extensively for the party.

Multiple opinion polls have showed that AAP is leading the race in Punjab where the ruling BJP-SAD combine is bogged down with anti-incumbency while Congress is enmeshed in faction fights. However, the AAP had so far shied away from naming a CM candidate and has repeatedly refuted speculation that Kejriwal could be Punjab CM should the AAP get a simple majority.

Punjab deputy CM Sukhbir Badal was quick to latch on the Sisodia statement. “By asking people to vote for Arvind Kejrwal as CM of Punjab, Sisodia has exposed their plan. AAP has proven it doesn’t trust Punjabis,” he tweeted.

Kejriwal had, earlier, ruled out contesting elections from Punjab. In an interesting twitter war with Congress leader Captain Amarinder Singh, Kejriwal had asked him is he is looking for a safe seat. To this Singh dared Kejriwal to contest against him. But Kejriwal stepped back.

The Assembly elections for 117 seats will be held in single phase on February 4. The results of the elections will be announced on 11 March.
