Free WiFi at railway stations has proven to be a big hit and the reason for that won’t shock you. It seems like porn tops the list of searches and the station leading that particular race is Patna station.

More than any other railway station in the country, where free Wi-Fi service was launched, Patna goes for most internet search, particularly for porn, said an official of RailTel, a public sector undertaking.

Jaipur station comes second to use internet search, followed by Bengaluru and New Delhi.

Patna station, under Danapur Division of East Central Railway, is the first station in Bihar to have free Wi-Fi facility. This railway station is one of the crowded ones with more than 200 trains passing through it daily.

At present, RailTel provides 1 GB WiFi at Patna railway station but plans to increase it to 10 GB.

Officials of RailTel, a mini-Ratna public sector undertaking, said Youtube and Wikipedia are the most searched items. But porn is searched and downloaded by users on a large scale, they added.

Bollywood, Hollywood films and apps are also popular among internet users at Patna station.

Free Wi-Fi facility was launched Visakhapatnam station in Andhra Pradesh and Ranchi in Jharkhand apart from Patna last month.

23 stations in India now have free Wi-Fi. Railway Minister Suresh Prabhu said that the government plans to introduce the service at 400 railway stations in the country in the next three years, including at 100 stations by the end of this year, in collaboration with Google India.

The internet service has been provided under ‘Railwire’, the retail broadband distribution model of Railtel, and Mumbai Central station in Mumbai was the first in the country to get it.

Railway Minister Suresh Prabhu had also stated that the government plans to introduce the service at all major railway stations.
