In a significant blow to Naxalite activity, ten Naxalites were killed in an encounter with security forces in the Sukma district of Chhattisgarh on Friday. The operation was carried out early in the morning in a forested area under the Bhejji police station’s jurisdiction, said Inspector General of Police (Bastar Range) Sundarraj P.
Details of the Operation
The gunfight erupted during an anti-Naxalite operation conducted by a joint team of the District Reserve Guard (DRG) and the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF). The mission was launched following intelligence inputs about Maoists from the Konta and Kistaram area committees operating in forested hills near Korajguda, Dantespuram, Nagaram, and Bhandarpadar villages.
Ten bodies of Naxalites were recovered from the encounter site. Security forces also seized a cache of weapons, including an INSAS rifle, an AK-47 rifle, and a Self-Loading Rifle (SLR).
Ongoing Search and Previous Successes
The search operation in the area is still underway, with forces scouring the dense forest for more Maoist operatives or hidden arsenals.
According to police, this incident adds to the tally of successes this year, with the bodies of 207 Naxalites recovered from separate encounters in Chhattisgarh’s Bastar region, which includes Sukma and six other districts.
This encounter marks another significant step in the ongoing efforts to curb Maoist activity in one of India’s most insurgency-affected regions.
