Maharashtra government on Tuesday inducted the daughter of 26/11 martyr constable Shashank Shinde, into the Sales Tax Department as assistant commissioner.

“Nivedita Shashank Shinde has been appointed on the post of Assistant Sales Tax Commissioner in Sales Tax Department on compassionate ground,” state Finance Minister Sudhir Mungantiwar said, as he gave her the order of her appointment at a programme held in Mumbai.

The programme held in Sahyadri Guest House was attended by Principal Secretary to Finance Department V Giriraj, Shashank Shindes wife Manasi Shashank Shinde, his another daughter Aditi Shinde and other officers and dignitaries.

“You will fulfil your fathers dream to serve the country. Today while giving this order for appointment in the government service there is a sad background to it,” Mungantiwar said.

“But you are getting an opportunity to fulfil your fathers dream to serve the country, you can contribute in the development of the state by excellent tax collection,” he said.

As per the government resolution dated January 20, 2009, there is a provision to include one family member of the police personnel martyred in the dreaded Mumbai terrorist attack of November 26, 2008, into government service in group B or group A.

Accordingly, the daughter of Kirti Chakra awardee Shashank Shinde has been appointed in the Sales Tax Department in group A service (after she completed 21 years of age).
