Anything for TRP? Swami Omji a ‘Blot’ on Sainthood

[dropcap]A[/dropcap]ctually, I never watch TV reality shows like Bigg Boss much, because I get suffocated in wasting my time on such shows. This time, I was furious to know that saffron clad called Swami Omji Maharaj too is participating in the reality show. Previously, he was known for appearing in TV debates and in one of the news channel he lost his temper and hit Deepa Sharma, an astrologer on live show. The discussion was on Radhe Maa, and it got heated up and Om Ji lost his cool and attacked Sharma. He is being one of the most controversial contestants in Bigg Boss season 10, till date. A number of cases have been registered in various places against him, including some non-bailable offences. A few weeks ago, Swami made an emergency exit as he was summoned by the court. He was back on the show, since his contribution is par excellence towards the show to increase TRP.

He had contested Delhi Assembly elections on Akhil Bharatiya Hindu Mahasabha ticket but lost it to AAP candidate. Omji has been a part of Hindu Mahasabha and calls BJP ‘his own party.’ The video features his interview showing Swamiji boasting of his political duties and opportunities. And he says that he is there to remove Congress and AAP from the scenario. Om Ji targets Kejriwal and alleges him to be a national traitor. He announces, with date, that he entered Kejriwal’s home and thrashed him.

The man did not even spare the ‘Father of the Nation’ Mahatma Gandhi and said that Nathuram Godse, who assassinated Gandhiji, was from his “Hindu Mahasabha” and they did it on purpose. The Akhil Bhāratiya Hindū Mahāsabhā was formed to protect the rights of the Hindu community in British India, after the formation of the All India Muslim League in 1906 and the British India government’s creation of separate Muslim electorate under the Morley-Minto reforms of 1909. Although, it is an old Hindu nationalist political party, the Hindu Mahasabha has remained marginal in its influence on Indian politics, both pre and post independence. In the 1940s, the Muslim League stepped up its demand for a separate Muslim state called as Pakistan. Although, the Congress strongly opposed religious separatism, the League’s great popularity amongst Muslims forced the Congress leaders to hold talks with the League president, Muhammad Ali Jinnah. Even though, Savarkar agreed with Jinnah and recognised Hindus and Muslims to be separate nations, he condemned the secular Gandhi’s overtures to hold talks with Jinnah and regain Muslim support for the Congress as appeasement. After communal violence claimed the lives of thousands in 1946, Savarkar claimed that Gandhi’s adherence to non-violence had left Hindus vulnerable to armed attacks by militant Muslims. When the partition of India was agreed upon in June 1947 after months of failed efforts at power-sharing between the Congress and the League, the Mahasabha condemned the Congress and Gandhi for agreeing to the partition plan. On January 30, 1948 Nathuram Godse shot Mahatma Gandhi three times and killed him in Delhi. Godse and his fellow conspirators Digambar Badge, Gopal Godse, Narayan Apte, Vishnu Karkare and Madanlal Pahwa were identified as prominent members of the Hindu Mahasabha. Along with them, police arrested Savarkar, who was suspected of being the mastermind behind the plot. While the trial resulted in convictions and judgements against the others, Savarkar was released on a technicality, even though there was evidence that the plotters met Savarkar only days before carrying out the murder and had received his blessings.

Hindu Mahasabha members are worshipping Godse’s bust. They are fanatics. Earlier, they claimed to be with BJP but now they are randomly attacking Modi.

There are many senseless, violent members like Om Ji in Hindu Mahasabha, who are spread across in different professions and most of them are claiming to be spiritual leaders. Unreasonable, crazy and fanatic saffron man Omji was on Bigg Boss in the race of gaining TRP but that did not happen. No right winger ever liked the idea of him being in reality show. Swami Omji is also popular by the name of S Sadachari Saibaba Omji. He is the alleged bicycle thief and could soon land up in jail for not appearing in the court. Away, from his spiritual avatar, this baba is also alleged an arms hoarder who has been slapped with charges under the Arms act, TADA and other laws. While he is doing his bit to create an impression on the reality show, Omji is now facing non- bailable warrants as he did not appear before a Delhi court in a theft case. The warrants were issued two days before the premiere of Bigg Boss 10 where commoners and celebrities are contesting. The court had fixed October 14 for hearing the arguments on the charge. The case dates back to November 2008. Pramodh Jha, the younger brother of Omji Maharaj, had accused him of breaking the lock of his bicycle shop in Lodhi Colony along with three men before stealing 11 bicycles, expensive spare parts, sale deed of the house and important documents. He has six brothers and four sisters.

When he was in Bigg Boss house, Swami asked the team to bring him some flower garlands as he wanted to do a ‘pooja’ in the house. The team agreed to his demands and arranged the garlands for him. And just before entering the house, he put the garlands on. He told the contestants that his fans gathered at the airport and welcomed him with flowers and garlands. Swami Omji is a ‘fake baba’ and will go a long way in curing the people of the blind faith they put in such “Dhongi”.

Interestingly, Swami Omji has warned Bigg Boss team that he should only be declared as the winner of the show or else his followers won’t spare them, claims report in leading daily portal Business of Cinema. He didn’t stop here. The troublemaker contestant has also said that he will bring his union on the grand finale to take strict action against them if they do not follow him. This was the second time Swami had left the house because of his theft case. The court, however, cancelled the non-bailable warrant against him, asking him to pay Rs. 30,000 for not complying with its order. The court has fixed February 4 as next date of hearing. This self-declared Swamiji says that he wants to devote his life to serving others both spiritually and politically. He has a PhD in astrology. He also claims of devoting his life to serving the country and its people. Whatever he is but he is a disgusting character. Colors and Big Boss should have some moral responsibilities and ethics inviting such people on show.
