While BJP made a strong comeback after initially trailing in the recently held BMC elections 2017, the results of which were declared on Thursday, it got a shot in the arm after one of its candidates emerged victorious through a lottery draw.
BJP’s Atul Shah was locked in a very interesting electoral battle with his nearest Shiv Sena rival Surendra Bagalkar ever since the counting of votes began in ward no 220 of BMC.
After several rounds of counting and re-counting of votes, the two candidates got 5946 votes each.
However, a lottery was conducted in the presence of Municipal Commissioner after which BJP’s Atul Shah was declared a winner.
A seven-year-old girl was called to pick a winner among the two candidates.
Atul Shah’s stunning victory has taken BJP’s total tally 82 as against Shiv Sena’s 84 in 227-seat BMC.
