Bayern Munich must learn from defeat, says Robben

Arjen Robben admits that Bayern Munich were “hit hard” by their defeat to Real Madrid in Tuesday’s Champions League semi-final second leg and has urged his team-mates to learn from their mistakes for next season.

The Bundesliga champions were beaten 4-0 at the Allianz Arena on Wednesday as Sergio Ramos and Cristiano Ronaldo both netted twice after Madrid had previously already won the first leg 1-0, though the Dutch winger believes that there are still plenty of positives for Bayern this season.

“It’s not about the margin of defeat. We’re hugely disappointed and it’s really hit us hard. We won’t be going to Lisbon and that’s all that matters. We need to learn from this for next season,” Robben told Uefa’s official website.

“It’s easy to be negative about everything but we should try to be positive too. We’re Bundesliga champions, having broken umpteen records, we’re in the DFB-Pokal final and we reached the semi-finals of the Champions League for the fourth time in five years.

“We’ve been in the final in three of the last five seasons. It didn’t work out now because the other team were better than us. We wanted to attack and we were punished.”

Bayern resume Bundesliga action away against Hamburg on Saturday.
