Better discipline, awareness needed on roads

I was horrified to read the news in your esteemed daily (Murshidabad bus accident: Toll rises to 42 as 6 more bodies found in Gogra canal.) that at least 36 people, including 10 women were killed as a state roadways bus fell into the Gogra canal in West Bengal.

For the last two or three months there has not been a single day when road accidents did not occur in our country. Most of these accidents were caused by reckless driving. This distressful incident is enough to force the government to take a serious step on the neglected issue of safety on roads. The main cause is reckless driving. Buses and cars start a race to beat one another. The drivers try to overtake one another.

I think the licenses of the drivers who are in the habit of rash driving should be cancelled at once. This can do much in this respect. I extend my heartfelt prayers to the injured and the families of deceased.
