A Twitter war broke out between Mumbai BJP President Ashish Shelar and Yuva Sena chief Aaditya Thackeray after the latter thanked those who supported his stand against the felling of trees for the proposed Delhi-Mumbai Freight Corridor in Mumbai Metropolitan Region.

DMFC-AVShelar, in a tweet said, “Those who say ‘karun dakhawale’ (we did it) by opposing Metro have not opposed the BJP but have done so to Mumbaikars stuck in traffic jams. We will continue to fight for Mumbaikars.”

This came after Aaditya, in a series of tweets thanked actors Shruti Seth and Mini Mathur, and singer Shaan for extending their support to his stand opposing the DMFC which would result in loss of 58 hectares of forest cover in MMR.

Aaditya, replying to actress Shruti said, “@SethShruti will do whatever we can. Thank you for standing up as a citizen to this.”

Responding to Mini, he tweeted, “@minimathur Absolutely! And there are alternative routes that could be made to avoid this deforestation.”

To singer Shaan, he said, “@singer_shaan thank you for standing up! We as citizens can’t let our city lose out to environmental destruction. This can be realigned.”

The young Sena scion also congratulated his party’s Lok Sabha MP Rahul Shewale for raising the issue in Parliament.

“Cannot destroy SGNP, Aarey and Thane forests. MP @shewale_rahul takes it up in the Parliament,” he tweeted.

Earlier, On March 8, Aaditya had taken to Twitter to demand realignment of the projects.

“Destroying Mumbai by decisions like Metro Yard, Freight Corridor etc is not development. Will stand by Mumbaikars. Corridor must be realigned.”

In another tweet he had said, “We cannot allow 12,000 trees to be cut in Mumbai and Thane only for a corridor that can be realigned. Development must be sustainable”.
