Mumbai city from where our country’s first bullet train would start in the near future cannot withstand heavy rains and the city literally comes to a standstill at times of heavy downpour due to poor public infrastructure. The city of late gets submerged in water whenever heavy rains coincide with high tide and this is causing concern among the people.
Mumbai has become a concrete jungle and poor infrastructural planning is the reason for all our troubles. Mumbai’s waste management which chokes gutters need to be overhauled and no new housing projects should be given permission until the city’s infrastructure is able to sustain the load of public utilities like water and waste management, parks for fresh air, good transportation both roads and railways etc. We also need a good weather forecast system with latest equipments to keep citizens alert and guided during times of heavy rains and cyclones!
