Cricket Association of Bihar (CAB) today said it supports the Justice Lodha committee’s recommendation to make each state as full member of the country’s apex cricket body.

R M Lodha-AVThe Supreme Court yesterday pulled up BCCI for its reluctance to comply with the recommendations of the Justice R M Lodha panel.

“As of today, 11 states, including Bihar, north eastern states, Pondicherry, are not even full members of the BCCI.

Therefore, the promotion of the game of cricket and the rights of the young cricketers are getting affected,” CAB secretary Aditya Verma said in a statement today.

Verma said BCCI is not functioning according to its constitution and does not provide monetary support for development of sports infrastructure in the states which don’t have full membership.

“It is pertinent to mention that not a single penny is released by the BCCI for developing infrastructure to the said states who are not its full members,” the statement said, adding that young cricketers, due to the disparity, cannot play first class cricket in their respective states.

“A large state like Bihar is not even the member of the BCCI since 2003, while as states like Gujarat and Maharashtra have seven votes each in the election process of the BCCI,” it said.

“The disparity in the functioning and promotion of the game of cricketis therefore writ large in our country where cricket is not just a game but a religion.
