The Supreme Court on Friday dismissed a Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) plea challenging a Bombay High Court order that had quashed the lookout circulars (LOCs) issued against actor Rhea Chakraborty and her family in connection with the death case of actor Sushant Singh Rajput.
A bench comprising Justices B R Gavai and K V Viswanathan termed the probe agency’s plea as “frivolous” while rejecting it.
The Bombay High Court had, on February 22, quashed the LOCs issued in 2020 against Chakraborty, her brother Showik, and their parents, Indrajit and Sandhya.
Rajput was found dead in his Bandra apartment on June 14, 2020. While the Mumbai Police initially registered an accidental death report, Rajput’s father later lodged a complaint with the Bihar police in July 2020, alleging that Chakraborty, Rajput’s purported girlfriend, and her family had abetted his suicide.
The case was subsequently transferred to the CBI for investigation. In 2020, both Rhea and Showik were arrested by the Narcotics Control Bureau in a drug-related case but were later granted bail.
