The last league fixture of the BBL saw hosts Melbourne Renegades taking on the Strikers with a semi-final spot up for grabs. But despite Gayle’s 17-ball 56, which included 7 sixes and 2 fours at a strike rate of 329.41, the hosts lost the game by 27 runs. Left-handed Gayle enthralled the crowd with 7 sixes including 4 in a row of left-arm paceman Greg West in the 1st over of innings.

The knock saw Gayle equalling Yuvraj’s record, which he set against England during the inaugural ICC World Twenty20 in 2007. The knock is also famous for the six consecutive sixes Yuvraj hit in the over bowled by Stuart Broad.

The ball by ball description of how Gayle reached the 50-run mark is 2, 0, 6, 6, 6, 6, 2, 6, 6, 4, 1, 6 which definitely enthrall you.

Gayle as he headed back to the pavilion, received a standing ovation from the crowd and he acknowledged by waving the bat to all parts of the ground. Soon after his record innings, he was seen signing autographs for young fans at the boundary-line. Gayle gifted his Renegades cap to a boy in the stands.
