Half of Mumbai is dug up for one reason or the other and with monsoons just 3 weeks from now, city population would have a torrid time during the rains. Most of the work has been badly planned and with metro work on everywhere, traffic congestion has become the order of the day. Gutters too have not been cleaned and it seems we are heading towards one of Mumbai’s worst ever monsoon this year. The city administration should ask infrastructure companies to complete road work with a deadline assigned to them. No new work should be undertaken by the authorities unless it is absolutely necessary. Metro work cannot be stopped but precautions need to be taken so that traffic moves smoothly. The Maharashtra government should form a crack committee of experts to oversee some of the ongoing projects so that hardships to people can be minimized and work completed before monsoons.
