Although lot of hue and cry was raised after 11 Lakhs names were missing from the voters list during Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) election but only 63 written complaints were filed with the civic body’s election department. An RTI filed by RTI Activist Anil Galgali has revealed this fact.

Galgali had filed an RTI with the BMC Election department about the number of written complaints received by the civic body’s election office in this regard. The Election Office Administrative officer replied to Galgali’s query that only 63 complaints were received by the office till now in connection with missing names in the voters list.

“In the BMC election held in 2012 and year 2017 the total number of voters were 1,02,86,579 and 91,80,555 respectively. In comparison to 2012 the number of voters was 11,00,624 voters less. But complaint number denotes the negative attitude of voters and shows that still voters are not serious pertaining to their voting rights,” said Galgali.
