The Khel Ratna is a well deserved reward for achieving sustained success in the sporting arena. It is time to honour the sports personalities even if their performances fail to touch medal mark in Olympics. The pain in the body will not subside for an outstanding sportsman or sportswoman and they deserve to be encouraged. Rewarding excellence in sports with the highest sporting honour, Khel Rana to ex-hockey Captain Sardar Singh and paralympian Devendra Jhajaria is a great pick in this competitive sporting world. There were 34 Khel Ratna winners and the award was not presented in 2008 and 2014. So the sporting world in India is seeing beyond Cricket after the repeated success of sporting stars. The last time when we saw a woman player hitting the top was when P.T. Usha made her presence felt in the Athletics and she was lovingly called “Sprint queen”.  Now Devendra Jharjharia deserves the honour.
