Govt should provide basic amenities to Adivasis: Activists

Adivasi Ward Stariya Vanhak Samithi activists met Anwar Ahmed, Chief Conservator of Forests and Director of Sanjay Gandhi National Park (SGNP) and urged him to provide electricity and water to Adivasis. The Government of Maharashtra already has passed a government resolution (G. R) in this regard. Despite the formation of committee to look into the welfare of adivasis they have been denied basic amenities.

Nilesh Gavit, president of Adivasi Ward Stariya Samiti said, “We have been denied basic amenities like water, electricity despite residing in forest area for many years. The government offices situated in forest region have been offered electricity and water.”

Zamir Khan, Rehmani Group, north Mumbai president said, “Adivasis must be provided basic amenities like water and electricity. We are taking this matter with the state government. If the government fails to address their grievances then we will file a petition with the high court.”

The meeting was attended by Anwar Shaikh, Sunil Sumada, Krishna Kamble and Ajit Sawant.
