A police constable allegedly committed suicide by firing himself from his service rifle inside a local train on Sunday, police said.
Amar Gaidwad, who was on railway patrolling duty at Mumbai Central, was travelling in a second class compartment of a Churchgate-bound train from Borivali when he allegedly shot himself from his rifle at around 5:30 AM, a Railway Protection Force (RPF) official said.
Gaidwad was rushed to a nearby hospital where he was declared brought dead by doctors, the official said, adding the exact cause behind the death was yet not known.
