On the day when Mother Teresa, the nun whose work with the dying and destitute of Kolkata made her a global icon of Christian charity, was made a saint, some unknown miscreants vandalised a statue of Jesus Christ at Juhu Tara road on Sunday.

Police have registered a case in connection with the incident of vandalism which was reported from Juhu Tara Road.

According to social activist Nicholas Almeida, the incident took place at around 11 am when a group of 4-5 persons came to the area and desecrated the cross.

Nicholas Almeida of Watch Dog Foundation said that one of the Police officers from Santa Cruz Police Station came and took the pieces of vandalised statue which means that he tampered with the evidence on-site.

Nicholas Almeida and his followers protested at the Police station and demanded that a FIR be registered against unknown persons and the police officer who took away the broken pieces.

When contacted, a senior police official said a case was registered against unknown persons in connection with the incident.

Almeida later refused to file a FIR till the police officer and Unknown persons are made accused in the case.

Zonal DGP said that a FIR will be registered but didn’t mention any particular person or persons who would be named in it.
