Like MS Subbulakshmi, Kishori Amonkar also got the full state honours and it was a great tribute indeed to them. Music maestro’s attended the cremation and paid rich tributes to her services to the music world. Amonkar’s eldest son Nihar lit the funeral pyre. Prime Minister Narendra Modi paid a tribute to her as well. Amonkar (84) is an irreparable loss to the Indian classical music. Musical world pained by her sad demise. The works of Kishori Amonkar will always remain popular among people for years to come. Born on April 10, 1932 in Mumbai, Amonkar was recognised as one of the foremost singers in the Hindustani tradition and as an innovative exponent of the Jaipur gharana. May her soul rest in peace.
