Mumbai University incurs Rs 2.80 lakhs for rehabilitating retired officials

As per an RTI application filed by activist Anil Galgali it has been revealed that Mumbai University has rehabilitated 12 retired persons for the posts like Officer on Special Duty, coordinator despite having competent personnel to head the institution’s various departments. The institution is incurring Rs 2.80 lakhs per month on these officials.

Galgali had sought information about the various appointments of retired officials and staff in the year 2016 by the Mumbai University. The Asst Registrar of Mumbai University Vikas Daware informed Galgali that, out of the 12 appointments, nine personnel retired from the Mumbai University and three from the state government. Of the five Special Executive Officer’s, M V Padmanabhan drawing a salary of Rs 25000 pm retired from Vice Chancellor’s office,V R Shintre from Finance and Audit Rs 20000, D R Shewale from Pay & Account office drawing Rs 20000 pm. Krishnakant Parab , Transport commissioner office and Mohan Satam from the Dairy development department have retired from the respective departments.

Out of the four coordinators R G Kamble from Post Graduate department, S G Mhaske , Professor Appointments department,  Blanche D’Souza , Vice Chancellor’s office and Anil Kumar Gawde from the Higher and Technical Education, Pune. Pushkaran Chandran from the Mumbai University’s Regional Division office has been appointed as Dy Engineer Electrical and Prakash Chavan as Electrical Technician. K B Magodia, retired from the Press department has been appointed as Superintendent and is paid a salary of Rs 15000 per month.

Galgali has raised objections to the appointments of 12 retired persons, by the Mumbai University and that too at a time when it’s own financial condition is not sound. In a letter addressed to the Governor, Galgali has demanded that the appointments be cancelled and an enquiry be conducted against the Vice Chancellor for carrying out such appointments.
