India is cursed with all sorts of dhongi babas, where the genuine saints come under scanner. We have heard about Kissing Baba, kicking babas, magic babas and tantric babas and even the Baba’s who run various ‘Babagiri’ rackets , but lately the nation is going crazy for ‘Rockstar Baba’ and so called spiritual leader Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh, aged 50. He has the sort of following in Punjab and Haryana that politicians would crave for. It’s very sad to see such blind followers who are a threat to democracy and law and order of this country. One can guess looking at their conduct what kind of perching they must have received from their baba all these while. Spiritualty is just not mere speeches or glossy fashion show. One should have guts and ability to inculcate peace, harmony, non-violence and patience in its disciples.
Supporters of Ram Rahim Singh have started planning their routes between their villages and a court located in Haryana which will deliver the verdict on Friday to decide whether he is guilty of raping two women 15 years back. In 2002, one of his female followers alleged that she and two other females were raped by Ram Rahim in his den when she entered his secret chamber where he was watching a blue film. The rape victim later wrote a letter to the then Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee and the Judges of Punjab and Haryana court. The court ordered a CBI probe. In 2007, CBI charged this Saint under sections 376 (rape) and 506 (criminal intimidation) of Indian Penal Code. The Sadhvi who was raped by the Godman was threatened not to reveal the truth or else her brother would be eliminated from the world. The brother was murdered and CBI is investigating the case.
Look at irony, his followers have no patience. If their baba is not guilty court will give him clean chit. And if he found guilty then he has to follow the law of land. No one is bigger than the judiciary of our country. Why indulge in violence? Whereas this Baba himself endorses protection to woman through his songs like “love charger”, then why his followers go mindless when it comes to allegations levelled against him? They should cooperate and wait for the truth to be revealed. In Chandigarh, a massive cricket stadium in the heart of the city is being prepped as a temporary jail to house law-breakers. Now, at least 7,000 policemen are being plotted both in the array of villages where Ram Rahim commands a mass following, and in the areas leading to the court in Panchkula, on the outskirts of Chandigarh. Two control rooms have been set up in the area to control the fallout of the verdict.
Ram Rahim has denied the charges; critics say that the trial began nearly five years after the complaint was made points to his vast political influence which is based on the sheer volume of his supporters. He is as controversial as any other Baba. Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh Insan is believed to be in close association with the militant Gurjant Singh Rajasthani of the much feared Khalistan Liberation Force. He is one of the 36 people in the country who enjoys the VVIP Status and so a Z – level security cover. This is because he is well-known for wielding influence amongst politicians in Haryana, Rajasthan and Punjab.
