Shun taboo, Accept challenge: Part II

mother breastfeed childMany women in India who wear the traditional sari breastfeed in public, using the garment as a means of covering themselves. However, this option is not available to women who do not want to wear the sari. The awareness about breast milk and early nutrition is poor among new mothers. We still see patients who don’t give colostrum to the baby.  One of the reasons breastfeeding is nearly universal and prolonged, especially in rural areas, is because of the widespread belief that it is effective in postponing the next pregnancy. Contemporary literature shows that ovulation is likely to return sooner in women who partially breastfeed than those who exclusively breastfeed.

Sometime back a so-called model did not splash a photo on the cover of a Malayalam magazine showing her ‘breastfeeding’ a baby and it is another matter that she is married, nor was the child hers. Even in the Western world, women in general modestly cover themselves when nursing their babies. The attempt to give that excellent message in terms of exhibitionism did nothing but raise a storm of controversy. It seems somewhere along the way we have lost a sense of propriety and instead wallow in an aura gained through notoriety. In the end, it became a storm in the teacup.  Instead of feeding the child in public with a purpose, the milk had become spoiled one because of the controversy.

Breastfeeding all babies for the first 2 years would save the lives of more than 8,20,000 children under age 5 annually, noted a release issued by the WHO. The guidelines describe how hospitals should have a written breastfeeding policy in place, required staff competencies, and antenatal and post-birth care, including breastfeeding support for mothers. It also recommends limited use of breast milk substitutes, rooming-in, responsive feeding, educating parents on the use of bottles and pacifiers, and support when mothers and babies are discharged from hospital.

The top six breastfeeding challenges faced by Indian mothers were: early day challenges such as sore and cracked nipples, latching problem, and engorged breasts, exhaustion from waking up in the middle of the night, too many feeding sessions and long feeding sessions, baby biting, lactation issues, problems with breastfeeding in public, including lack of facilities, perceived restriction and post-partum depression.

In a survey conducted, which provides a platform for mothers, in collaboration with a supplier of breast pumps and breastfeeding accessories. Over 500 women participated in the survey, which aims to bring the conversation about breastfeeding challenges into mainstream discourse and find solutions.

Breast milk contains antibodies that prevent viral infections in the baby. It has all the nutrients in the right dosage besides being available all the time at the right temperature and right composition. Further, breast milk is dynamic, which means its composition varies, based on the age of the child. The first six months the baby should be exclusively fed of breast milk and after that other foods could be introduced in a phased manner, while continuing breast milk.

Breastfeeding helps women in losing the weight gained during pregnancy and prevents excessive bleeding. It is a much cheaper alternative as formula foods are very expensive. It has been found that breastfed children were more healthy and intelligent in later life. “Breastfeeding can, therefore, produce a whole generation of healthy future citizens

Letters to the Editors: May 08, 2019

FEATURE LETTER DIARY 679x400 e1553672678487When will the PM apologise?

If Congress President Rahul Gandhi had to apologise to the apex court for calling Narendra Modi a Chowkidar who is Chor, Narendra Modi too should apologise to Rahul, Priyanka, and Sonia Gandhi for his nasty remarks against them. Why didn’t he apologise? Everything should be fair and square. This clearly proves that he’s a Chowkidar Chor for all the false promises he has been making to the citizens of India since the last five years.

Guise of progressiveness!

After serial bomb blasts in Sri Lanka on Easter Sunday, security machinery of Sri Lanka has become extremely alert and as a measure of security, the ban has been imposed on ‘Burkha’. It has, therefore, become necessary for Muslim women to move in public places, without ‘Burkha’. Of course, Sri Lanka is not the only country to ban ‘Burkha’. Many countries, which have suffered due to terrorism, have already imposed such ban. In this background, even in India, there is a demand to ban ‘Burkha’ and many Muslim women have welcomed the same. For women from Muslim community, who are an inseparable part of India, which is trying to be a financial superpower in the 21st century, this is the right time to be free from a religious constraint like ‘Burkha’. Muslim women are going for higher studies just as men and are holding high posts in the materialistic world. Therefore, if their personal freedom is throttled by covering them under ‘Burkha’ only due to religious tradition, it is better to do away with such traditions. Muslim ‘Dharma gurus’ from many countries, along with Sri Lanka, are welcoming such ban on ‘Burkha’. Some self-proclaimed thinkers from India, however, who call themselves progressive, seem to prefer that Muslim women should be in ‘Burkha’. The progressiveness of such characters is just a pretense and it has been exposed through this incident.

Politics can throw strange bedfellows after poll results

NDA may fall short of the halfway mark in this year’s Parliamentary elections which is the reason why Prime Minister Modi has been guarded in his comments when he attacks some opposition leaders like Mamata Banerjee, Sharad Pawar, and their tribe. He has talked about his respect for Sharad Pawar and also revealed Mamata Banerjee’s gesture of sending Kurtas and sweets to him every year which is an indication that even Modi is aware of seat shortfalls in forming a government after election results.

Both Mamata and Sharad Pawar are known to switch political loyalties for power and one should not be surprised if they join NDA after election results if number game suits them and they are offered key portfolios in the government. Politics is all about strange bedfellows and it is the voters who cast their franchise who is taken for a ride by their leaders.

Rahul’s “unconditional apology” to SC for Chowkidar Chor Hai attribution

rahul gandhi apologiesCongress president Rahul Gandhi on Wednesday tendered an unconditional apology in the Supreme Court for wrongfully attributing to the apex court the ‘Chowkidar Chor Hai’ remark in the Rafale verdict. Gandhi uses the remark against Prime Minister Narendra Modi to attack him on the Rafale issue.

In a fresh three-page affidavit, the Congress chief said he holds the Supreme Court in the “highest esteem and respect”, and sought closure of the criminal contempt proceedings filed against him by BJP MP Meenakshi Lekhi. “The deponent (Rahul Gandhi) unconditionally apologises for the wrongful attributions to this court,” Gandhi said in his affidavit.

Questions hover on clean-chit to CJI

Ranjan GogoiThe activists and advocates of Mumbai feel that the clean-chit was given to Chief Justice of India (CJI) Ranjan Gogoi against the allegation of sexual harassment made by an employee of Supreme Court had many loopholes and scope of development. They have also asked to make the reports public. Some of them have mentioned the allegations as a part of a conspiracy against the Justice. However, they all agreed that more transparency was required for the hearing.

In general, the decision is not getting a warm welcome from the public. Immediately after the announcement of the decision, Section 144 was announced outside the Supreme Court. Similarly, protests were also observed in different parts of India over this decision. The city advocates also raised a question against the proceedings. Senior Advocate Abha Singh said that the legal course of action was not followed during the proceeding. She said, “I think this is not fair. She was not given lawyer to present her side, that’s why she moved out and then the X-party was involved in the case. The reports were not being made public. When asked, they refer it with Indira Jai Singh vs Supreme Court case. However, the main question over here is how can one deny to provide the report. On the other hand, if you are saying that the allegations were not true, why the cross FIR was not filed. There is a provision of cross FIR if the allegations were not found to be true.”

The Social Activists have also demanded a free third-party investigation of the decision made by any judge. Social activist Medha Patkar said that there should have been more transparency for the case. Patkar said, “She is not satisfied and many people have seen in. All the witnesses that she wanted to be presented before the committee, were not presented before the committee. We cannot comment on this situation, as the documents were not available. They should make all the documents available for the third party or general scrutiny. Some independent organisation should also carry on the inquiry in a very transparent manner. That’s the only way one can judge the judgement of the judges. She had objections to the modus operandi of the committee. There was no video recording. It is the time to review the judgement and take the due action.”

However, looking at the background of Chief Justice of India (CJI) Ranjan Gogoi and the type of important cases that are lined up in the court of Gogoi, the advocates and activists have also raised a voice whether there is any conspiracy behind the entire scenario. Veteran criminal lawyer Majeed Memon said that there is a need to check whether any bigger power is active behind this. Memon said, “First of all, the decision does have some loopholes such as the applicant had walked away from the proceedings and the X party was maintaining the case in her absence. Her advocate was not allowed to stand there which is also not right. The report was not publicised, it was kept confidential, sealed covered, how one could know the details of it. But, what is more concerning is that if the allegations of the woman is found not true, it should be investigated that why did she file a false complaint, what was her motive and why did she display the courage? It is the time to unfold the secret if there was any bigger power behind it. Meanwhile, a fresh petition was moved in front of Justice Nazir.”

Social activists also supported the thought that the probabilities against CJI should not be kept aside. Human Rights Activist Maruti Bhapkar said that it can be a conspiracy against the chief guest, however, fair chance should have been given to the accuser also. Bhapkar said, “Ranjan Gogoi is the Chief Justice of India. He has many important cases on board. He along with other three justices had taken a press conference during which he had mentioned the involvement of government in the judiciary. On the other hand, a committee was formed and the woman was told to present the evidence in front of her. The committee stated that the evidence did not have any substance. However, it was important to follow the nature of hearing and fulfill her demand for video recording of the hearing and cross investigations. It should have been followed and she must have given all the fare chances to present her side. There is a need to check whether this was a part of any conspiracy against Gogoi.”

Win big or small, this poll is mostly about Modi

By now you all must be very much excited and waiting for the election results. Everybody believes that 2019 elections will not be as simple a victory for BJP like that of 2014. More or less Modi has miserably failed on fulfilling his election promises. Moreover, his arrogance in attacking opposition was not very appealing to the people. No doubt Modi is the favourite leader of the most but people expect their leader to be more cultured. Congress President Rahul Gandhi is everyday charging PM Modi of corruption in Rafale deal. Other parties also accuse Modi of promoting communalism and division in society. While all the eyes have turned towards UP and Smriti Irani, UP is having the largest number of seats of Member of Parliament. Retaining UP’s maximum seat is a big challenge ahead.

Last general elections in 2014, the nation went into a frenzy campaign mode from mid-2013 and Modi, who was (in September) announced the PM face of BJP, was doing rallies on a record pace. There was a strong anti-incumbency wave riding against Congress. The Congress folks were clueless, MMS had said that he won’t take the third term, there was no consensus on their Prime Ministerial face and Congress put up a weak show against the BJP canvas of development and the strong image of Modi. But since 2014, the scenario is different. Modi came to power keeping his lavishes and extravagant talks but in reality, he has failed on various fronts. Only one good thing he did was his own media management, the media that has accepted the slavery kept on praising him no matter what. By giving them scripted interviews, PM Modi also managed damage control but he could not bring the change that he promised.

A voter who was unhappy with the performance of the Vasundhara Raje government in Rajasthan is also unhappy with PM Modi. Similarly, those who voted for Congress in Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh would not necessarily prefer Rahul Gandhi to Narendra Modi in 2019 polls. The close contests that we’ve just witnessed clearly show the absence of any major wave in favour of either party. What has played out, more likely, is anti-incumbency combined with a certain degree of fatigue for familiar faces.

Global brokerages did take a serious view of the election outcome but were not ready to give up on Narendra Modi yet, saying his party still has a bright chance of notching up an average majority in the 2019 Lok Sabha elections. The Modi factor still has the potential to change the political discourse in these three states in 2019; the popularity of PM Modi is way ahead of other politicians in these states including the outgoing chief ministers of BJP. Despite the anti-incumbency, the BJP’s vote share in Madhya Pradesh and Rajasthan was almost equal to the Congress, which emerged victorious. Party leaders believe that the National Democratic Alliance is intact and it will retain power at the Centre in 2019 under Modi’s leadership.

Even if this does not mean the end of the BJP’s poll prospects, the party had been given a strong wake-up call. They had to pull something else out of the bag to win big in 2019. That was an emotive construction of the Ram Mandir, another surgical strike, Pulwama attack, and air strike. All these were done to garner some votes and as I said, PM Modi in his campaign asked votes in the name of martyred jawans. This is where the BJP’s “x-factor,” NaMo, could make all the difference for his losing fate. We know that elections are not won only on the basis of actual deliverables on the ground or even on the basis of good governance or development alone. What is needed is a rallying point, a wave to cement the masses into a cohesive political force that backs one party. The most important takeaway has been that the Congress is very much in the political game, as India’s second largest national party, having staged an impressive comeback. Will Rahul Gandhi, as a leader, be able to take his party from just presenting this neck-to-neck competition to a certain victory? This is yet to be seen.

Right now there isn’t a strong anti-incumbency against the sitting Prime Minister. He may not be as popular a face for PM as he was in 2013 and 2014, but he still enjoys common popularity as being the leader India wants as its PM.

People still don’t have faith in Congress and its leaders and there is no concrete third front build up as of now. The which could seriously damage the prospects of BJP in UP is not clear. The regional satraps in Odisha, Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh, and many other swing states. This, in short, hints towards a possible BJP swing in elections. BJP in all likelihood would not get a clear majority of 272+ seats as it got last time. The 60–90 numbers that Arun Shourie and many opposition strategists sound like a ‘Black Swan’ moment (BJP winning 90 per cent seats in states which contribute 60 per cent strength of Lok Sabha or the Lower House of Parliament) isn’t happening. However, BJP could still manage 200+ seats, enough to cobble up an NDA alliance and install Modi as PM for the second term. Why the above scenario seems plausible is because Rahul Gandhi is no magnet that can pull off an amazing victory centering on him. Even by cobbling parties together in a pre-poll setup he might not cross 150 seats in all likelihoods making the halfway mark of 272 extremely tough for any Non-NDA government or alliance to form. He simply doesn’t spell out or perhaps possibly has a vision for India that the electorate can buy.

In short, I believe there are good prospects of a second NDA government. It won’t be the one with a full majority but one with a decent majority. BJP has seen its local and global maxima and it would be on a downward curve henceforth but it is not yet as weak to be thrown in by a Congress with Rahul Gandhi or by a split third front with many big states not being part of it.

Mysterious Moon, Curious Man: Over 400 years’ journey of exploration

chandrayan 2

The moon has been always an object of wonder and mystery since ancient time. Scientific missions over the centuries have peeled away layers of that mystery but the moon continues to harbour many secrets. Missions to the moon have been conducted by the Soviet Union (Russia), United States, European Space Agency, Japan, India, China and Israel. The physical exploration of the moon began when Luna 2, a space probe launched by the Soviet Union (Russia), made an impact on the surface of the Moon on September 14, 1959. Prior to this only available means of exploration had been observed from the earth. The invention of the optical telescope brought about the first leap in the quality of lunar observations. Galileo Galilei is generally was the first person to use a telescope for astronomical purposes. He made his own telescope in 1609. His first observations by using it include the mountains and craters on the lunar surface.

Chandrayaan-2 is India’s second lunar exploration mission after Chandrayaan-1. Developed by the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO), the mission is planned to be launched to the moon by a Geosynchronous Satellite Launch Vehicle Mark III. It includes a lunar orbiter, lander and rover, all developed by India. Chandrayaan-2 will attempt to soft-land a lander and rover in a high plain between two craters, Manzinus C and Simpelius N, at a latitude of about 70° south. If successful, Chandrayaan-2 will be the first mission to land a rover near the lunar south pole. Chandrayaan-2 will make India the 4th country in the world to land on the moon, a feat achieved only by the US, the Soviet Union and China till now. On May 1, 2019, the ISRO announced a July 9 -July 16 launch window for India’s second moon mission with plans to land on the lunar surface on September 6. After this, India will go ahead to send first Indian on the moon. In the exploration of the moon, India is nearly 50 years back to the United States as they are planning to send the first woman on the moon while in near future we are going to send first Indian on the moon.

Recently the Vice President of the United States Mike Pence announced that the first woman to land on the moon will be an American. In his address to the Satellite 2019 Conference Mike Pence said that at the President Donald Trump’s direction, the United States would return to the moon within the next five years. The first woman and the next man on the moon will be Americans. He said that we will once again launch American astronauts on American rockets from American soil into space before the year ends.

It is worth mentioning that Neil Armstrong was the first person to walk on the moon on July 20, 1969. He was a NASA astronaut and an American citizen. The first human-made object to reach the surface of the moon was the Soviet Union’s Luna 2 mission, on 13 September 1959.

Mike Pence said, “That’s why we assembled this Users’ Advisories Group in the National Space Council. I’m proud to say that this has brought together some of the brightest minds and biggest talents in the country to help accelerate innovation across the space enterprise. More than 15,000 scientists and industry representatives from 105 countries, including India, are attending the four-day mega event which began on May 6 in Washington DC.

Now wealthy Muslims join jihad

jihadistAccording to media reports and video footages, at least three of the suicide attackers in Sri Lanka belong to an extremely wealthy family. Meritorious students of educated and affluent Muslim families from several South Asian nations including Bangladesh are brainwashed with wrong teachings of Islam and concocted glories of becoming martyrs as per militant ideology that eventually leads them to radical Islam and jihad. One of the key reasons behind the rise of radical Islam and jihad is anti-Semitism. Unfortunately, Muslims are given poisonous indoctrination of anti-Semitism by political leaders, clergymen and even senior members of the families. They are taught to consider Jews and Christians as ‘enemies of Allah’. The State of Israel is being portrayed as a ‘satanic country’, and many of the Muslim nations, including Bangladesh, are not only participating in demonisation of Israel and Jews but also has been actively patronizing terrorism against Israel by supporting notorious mega-terrorist outfits like Hamas.

Any government that ignores specific warnings on the rise of radical Islam and jihad would ultimately face the harsh consequences when jihadist groups such as Al Qaeda or ISIS ultimately shows its nasty fangs. Bangladesh and India now would definitely face a series of challenges posed by radical Islam and jihad. For these reasons, it is important for everyone to understand the core realities and some of the facts in order to effectively combat radical Islam and jihad.

The deadly attack in Sri Lanka during Easter Sunday left over 250 people killed. This has generated question in the minds of the security analysts, counter-militancy experts, and intelligence agencies to assess the reason behind the rise of radical Islam and jihadism, which has been spreading in countries like Bangladesh, Pakistan, India and some other parts of South Asia.

As we observe, in recent days, youths from the affluent or upper-class societies are being brainwashed and lured towards joining jihad and becoming ‘martyrs’. Some of these youths start considering martyrdom as the easiest way of directly landing in heaven and enjoying unending luxuries and amusement including the company of 72 virgins. These youths are taught to ‘sacrifice their lives’ for the cause of ‘saving Islam’.

Decades back, we have the impression that only people from madrassa education background or from the poor families do join jihad or become radicalised. But now we have seen in Sri Lanka, for example, those attackers belonged to wealthy families. What we have seen there? At least three of the suicide bombers who struck Sri Lanka on Easter belonged to the same extended family. They are fabulously wealthy and known as spice tycoons.

The group that unleashed Sunday’s attacks on Sri Lanka included nine suicide bombers who detonated explosives in churches, hotels and inside the home belonging to the family, authorities said. The leader was a man named Zahran Hashim, who was believed to be in his 40s and expounded extremist views in online sermons. Authorities said the group’s leader carried out a suicide attack on Colombo’s Shangri-La Hotel. Let’s not forget, before they blew them off in the suicide attacks, everyone in the society knew them as decent people and even they were regularly visiting posh hotels and socializing. It means, a Muslim family, no matter whether they are wealthy or poor, they can turn into jihadists at any point.

I can also give a classic example of another family, which to are wealthy and to some extent in attire at least, they look to be seculars. But in reality, they not only are radicalised but also do take an active part in jihad and terrorism. Take the example of Md. Shahid Uddin Khan, his wife Farjana Anjum or their daughters. They have plenty of black money and are living a very posh life in Britain. But this year, Khan’s Dhaka residence was raided by the Counter-Terrorism and Transnational Crime (CTTC). During the raid, a large volume of weapons, detonator, counterfeit Bangladesh currency notes and jihadist materials of ISIS were recovered by the CTTC unit. Following this recovery, three separate cases against ISIS-funder Md. Shahid Uddin Khan, his wife Farjana Anjum, daughters and other accomplices were lodged. The cases are Cantonment PS, Case no 10, Section-6(2)/7/11/12 of Anti-Terrorism Act 2009 (amendment 2013); Cantonment PS,  Case no 11, Section-25-A,  Special Power Act 1974; and Cantonment PS, Case no 12, Section-19-A of Arms Act 1878. It means they are funding Islamic State (ISIS). Under the disguise of secular Muslims, they actually are dangerous predators – possibly finalising the location of their jihadist attacks.

On April 24, 2019, Md. Shahid Uddin Khan released two video messages through the social media calling upon the people of Bangladesh to get united against the government and establish Caliphate. Just days after the release of these video messages, Islamic State has released the poster, proving there clearly is a connection between Shahid’s ‘Astha’ and ISIS.

In Bangladesh, another jihadist outfit named Hizbut Tahrir also has got itself affiliated with Islamic State. Moreover, sitting in Britain, a fugitive sacked military officer named Md. Shahid Uddin Khan has formed a platform named ‘Astha’ (faith), through which he is trying to unseat the democratically elected government in Bangladesh and turn the country into a Caliphate. Md. Shahid Uddin Khan’s cohort M. Sajjad Hussain is coordinating the activities of ‘Astha’ in the United States. It is a matter of grave surprise as to why the UK government is allowing Md. Shahid Uddin Khan in continuing jihadist activities using the British soil.

According to immigration records, Shahid Uddin Khan and his family members are regularly visiting the United Arab Emirates. British intelligence agencies never wanted to know the reason behind this family’s visit to the UAE.

According to media reports, four months before the Sri Lanka attacks, ISIS funder Md. Shahid Uddin Khan had sent a large amount of money to his Colombo-based jihadist contact via Dubai. Khan has been living in the United Kingdom for the last few years along with his family.

Documents available with various intelligence agencies, Md. Shahid Uddin Khan hails from a radical Muslim family while his wife Farjana Anjum too hails from similar family background. This couple’s daughters though are living and being educated in Britain is notoriously radicalised and is working as lone wolves. They have been targeting various individuals and trying to convert them into Islam.

In January this year, Md. Shahid Uddin Khan used the illegal channel in transferring an amount equivalent to ninety-two thousand dollars. This amount went from Dubai to Colombo. In other words, Khans funded the Sri Lanka jihadists – on behalf of ISIS.

ISIS threat on Bangladesh and India:

Recently, Islamic State (ISIS), through one of its channels has openly threatened of launching attack either on Bangladesh or West Bengal in India. Intelligence agencies in both countries have taken the matter seriously and are trying to know further details on this matter. But, according to counter-militancy experts, South Asian intelligence agencies are not fully capable of either understanding the broader impact of such threats nor in initiating due measures in preventing the same. Although senior officials of the counter-terrorism unit of Bangladesh Police had already trashed the possibility of ISIS attack in the country, experts say, such over-confidence always may turn into a blunder. Authorities in Sri Lanka had ignored a very specific intelligence report about possible ISIS attacks, and we are now witnessing the consequence of such ignorance. Any nation either ignoring or downplaying the threats posed by notorious jihadist groups such as Islamic State (ISIS) would ultimately witness a similar fate as we have seen in Sri Lanka.

For effectively countering militancy or jihadist threat, every nation needs to initiate effective measure. But for taking such measures, they need to consult details with the expert individuals in this field. To my knowledge, none of the internationally known counter-militancy experts would work for free. Rather, they are quite expensive. And those nations would not feel the necessity of spending in getting such crucial cooperation unless they witness the devastation.

Slapping Kejriwal is a slap on India’s Constitution!

“Most deserving surgical strike on Kejriwal,” wrote one Twitter user. “This is a STUNT as usual. He loves to get slapped and wants to hold the record for being the Chief Minister the maximum number of times and have his name recorded in The Guinness Book,” wrote another. “@arvindkejriwal again slapped by common man…Well done…Kejriwal deserves much more… #KejriwalKiKutai,” reflected another account. These are the Twitteritis who also criticise the Emergency era, how the democracy of this country is under threat, and whosoever political party is responsible for the same, how election slogans like “Chowkidaar Chor Hai” is derogatory to be used addressing the PM of the country.

On Saturday, while addressing a road show in Moti Nagar, Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal was assaulted by a man. Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) chief Arvind Kejriwal was atop an open jeep when a man wearing a red t-shirt jumped onto the vehicle and slapped the CM. The assaulter has been identified as Suresh, 33, and he was taken into the custody soon after that and an investigation into the matter is underway, as performed by the police.

This article has no intention to be political. While it is not ‘apolitical’ too. Forgetting which party you support or how much Aam Aadmi Party is ideologically against your political party, or which party the assaulter belong to or what might be the reason behind the attack keeping the ongoing Lok Sabha election in mind, think like a citizen of the world’s largest democracy.

Unapologetically, this article is intended to appear as a slap on all those who are celebrating this coward act of slapping a Chief Minister of this country and enjoying themselves in the meme quest. Please make a note that slapping a designated CM of this country is nowhere a proud moment to be celebrated. By that, you are actually denying the existence of the Constitution of this country.

Kejriwal being slapped is a slap on India’s Constitution and the mandate of Delhi people who chose him as the CM. It is disgraceful and it’s sad to see even the political parties and their supporter brigade on social media too are making fun of the incident. Why aren’t talking that the assault on CM Arvind Kejriwal puts a big question on the police administration for their negligence in the security of the CM during a roadshow? Why aren’t we focussing on the democratic system of the vote in and vote out a candidate in case we are unhappy with their services? Have Indians forgotten to act and react democratically?

Brotherhood and Sympathy are the spirit of Ramzaan

ramzaanIt is not possible to help without feeling the pain of needy. One, who goes through Hunger, can only feed the poor and hungry, one who goes through the thirst, can only make the others drink water. With the message of helping others by feeling their pain and to earn good deeds, the Muslims observe fasting and offer prayers and charity during the month of ‘Ramzaan’.

Ramzaan is 9th Lunar month of Islamic Hijri calendar. The Month starts with sighting crescent and ends with sighting the first moon of 10th lunar Islamic month Shawal. The holy Quran was revealed on Prophet Mohammed (peace be upon him) during this month. The month Ramzaan has 29 or 30 days. The span of thirty days is divided in three sectors (Ashra) of ten days each. First Ashra reflects mercy of Allah, second reflects forgiveness of Allah and the third phase reflects safety from the hell (Jahanum). Muslims observe fasting and give Zakaat (alms-giving or kind of tax). The Muslim do offer Taraweeh – the additional prayers after performing the Isha (night) prayers. The fasting do start from dawn and ends with sunset. The Muslim also do Itikaf (staying in mosque).

Maulana Anwar Uz Zama Razvi of Darul Uloom Anwar E Mustafa Trust described the month as the reason to feel the pain of needy and poor people. Maulana said, “Ramzaan gives a message of brother hood and sympathy. Fasting is not only about staying hungry or thirsty and keep doing the wrong things. It is all about feeling the pain of hungry, thirsty person that comes for help and aid. While fasting, the Muslim should keep all his senses and body parts away from the bad deeds and intentions. It is important for the current generation to know the importance of Roza or Fasting and perform it for the sake of Allah.”
