The Freedom of Press should be inviolate

mediaEvery year May 3 is celebrated as the fundamental principles of press freedom; to evaluate press freedom around the world, to defend the media from attacks on their independence and to pay tribute to journalists who have lost their lives in the exercise of their profession.

Freedom of the Press or Media is the belief system that communications to the public through the medium of print, television and, these days, the internet should be free of oversight from the government. It is the responsibility of the media to bring forth news and facts that will shape public opinion and allow the citizens of a country to exercise their rights. The right to freedom of speech and expression isn’t absolute and it is up to the judiciary to decide when the press is being denied this right and when it cannot exercise this right. In other words, if the people are to be free, it is the job of the media to ensure that it keeps a watch on those in power in whose hands the freedom lies. Social responsibility is the obligation to guide one’s actions on the basis of the effect the actions will have on society, economy, culture, and environment.

If we glance at the history of the press in India, the Indian press is deeply rooted in Indian history and had its beginnings under the aegis of the British Raj. During the Indian struggle for freedom, various acts were enacted by the British government to censor press coverage of parties such as the Congress which were at the forefront of the independence movement. These acts included the Indian Press Act (1910), the Indian Press (Emergency) Act (1931-32) and the Defence of India Act during the Second World War (1939-1945). With the advent of independence, Indian leaders laid out the Constitution of India which guaranteed certain rights to all its citizens as part of being a democracy. While there is no specific Act in the constitution regarding the freedom of the press, Article 19 (1) a guarantees the right of freedom of speech and expression to all citizens. The freedom of the press is deemed to be part of this right. Ideally, this means that the communiqués and expressions in various media cannot be censored by the government.

It serves as a reminder to governments of the need to respect their commitment to press freedom and is also a day of reflection among media professionals about issues of press freedom and professional ethics. In order for a democracy to work, it needs to have four solid aspects – free and fair elections, protection of the people’s human rights, the participation of citizens and the rule of law applied equally to everyone.  The theory of social responsibility of the press lies between total authoritarianism and libertarianism. As per the theory, a free press should be allowed without any censorship but the content should be self-regulated and open to discussion in public panels. There are four pillars that support a working democracy – the executive, legislature, judiciary, and press. Of these, the latter two are vital to the proper functioning of a democracy. Time and time again, recent history has proven that censorship of the press is one of the most common features of a dictatorship. The censorship may not even be direct or obvious at first. A government may often start by discrediting the news media and what is being reported.

If members of the press are intimidated and harassed or are discredited without reason, the people lose the only tool they have to participate effectively in the running of their country. Without freedom of the press, no government can be considered ‘of the people, by the people, and for the people’. Unfortunately, the past few years have seen increasing curbs, direct or indirect, on the media and its ability to report. In order to be truly effective, the press needs to remember that it has a responsibility to its audience and to society as a whole to be rational and conscientious in its reporting.

PM conducts aerial survey of cyclone-ravaged areas in Odisha

fani cyclonePrime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday conducted an aerial survey to assess the loss and destruction caused by Cyclone Fani in Odisha.

Modi was received by Governor Ganeshi Lal and Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik on his arrival at the Biju Patnaik International Airport here. Modi, who has three rallies scheduled later in the day in West Bengal and Jharkhand, immediately proceeded towards his chopper to carry out the survey of the worst-hit Puri district and other affected areas. At least 34 people were killed during Cyclone ‘Fani’, which barrelled through coastal Odisha on Friday last, causing widespread destruction and leaving hundreds grappling with water shortage and power cut.

The prime minister had on Sunday tweeted, “Will be in Odisha tomorrow morning, where I will review the situation due to Cyclone Fani and hold meetings with top officials. The Centre is committed to provide all possible assistance in relief and rehabilitation measures underway.”  The PM also spoke to the chief minister on Saturday and discussed the situation in the aftermath of Fani, assuring continuous support from the Centre. The National Crisis Management Committee (NCMC), headed by Cabinet Secretary P K Sinha, had on Sunday reviewed relief measures in affected areas of Odisha, West Bengal and Andhra Pradesh.

Septic tank tragedy an eye-opener!

Shocked to learn that three workers died of suffocation while cleaning a septic tank in Nalasopara! The labourers who clean Nullah’s (drainage) and septic tanks are forced to work in inhuman conditions at times without proper gear and safety equipment. Even the basic masks and gloves are missing which not only results in them being affected by deadly diseases but even proves fatal at times.

We are today living in the age of technology where gutters can be cleaned easily by machines without even the need for workers to enter them but this involves infrastructural costs which though sanctioned is lost in corruption at the civic body. The death of those who lost their lives in the tragedy needs to be investigated and those responsible for their lives should be put behind bars. Corruption rules roost in most public welfare departments and it’s high time these bodies are privatised for better functioning and accountability!

Shun the taboo

Mothers need to donate to milk banks to save tender lives and mothers with surplus milk should donate milk generously. Breastfeeding saves lives. Its benefits help keep babies healthy in their first days and last well into adulthood. However, breastfeeding requires support, encouragement, and guidance. With these basic steps, implemented properly, we can significantly improve breastfeeding rates around the world and give children the best possible start in life. Why then so much controversy is created in India for the sake of creating. Shun the taboo and accept the challenge instead of becoming a carping critic all the time. In many hospitals and communities around the world, whether a child can be breastfed or not can make the difference between life and death. Better sense should prevail to save babies in need of breast milk.

Slap show of Kejriwal

It is very common that Delhi’s Chief Minister is getting the worst public response as he is beaten time and again for adverse remarks. Once a ‘chappal’ was hurled in a public address by the Delhi CM. Why he winning the wrath of the people just before an election is a mystery. It was stated that AAP’s distrust in the armed forces is the major reason for the slap. Kejriwal did not learn from mistakes. How long he can survive in politics in such a frivolous attitude.

Padma Vibhushan Asha Bhosle received Newsmakers Achievers’ Award 2019

asha LeadLegendary singer Asha Bhosle recently received the Newsmakers Achievers’ Lifetime Achievement Award 2019 held on May 1. The event was like a gathering of stars on the earth. Veteran singer Asha Bhosle, whose name is synonymous to versatility and the one who has sung in more than 20 Indian and foreign languages, said, “Receiving awards are always a great feeling. While I don’t like to receive any random award, the Newsmakers Achievers Lifetime Achievement Award is special and exceptional to be honoured with. My heartfelt thanks to the juries for choosing me for this Award.”

The event was also marked by the presence of Padma Vibhushan Dr. Kanak Rele, veteran and celebrated singer Bappi Lahiri, Pandit Ajay Pohankar, and stalwart of hospitality Dr. Vithal Kamat, yesteryear actress Moushumi Chatterjee. While Moushumi Chatterjee received the Newsmakers Achievers’ Lifetime Achievement Award 2019, the other dignitaries held the stage to felicitate the Lifetime Achievers.

Kathak legend and Padma Vibhushan Pandit Birju Maharaj spoke to Afternoon Voice and said, “There’s no one as compared to Asha Bhosle on this planet. The versatility in her voice is unparalleled. This talented singer can sing a ghazal and a peppy Bollywood number with amazing levels of ease, energy, and style. She is an effortless singer. This country would always be thankful to have such legends and talents. She deserves much more in life. I wish her all the good luck.”

Speaking of this award, Padma Bhushan Dr. Kanak Rele expressed, “Although Asha is younger to me, it is an honour to appreciate a legendary singer and personality like Asha Bhosle. She is one purely talented, humble, down to earth artist of this country. This evening was very special for me because I got the opportunity to compliment her. I will always count the Newsmakers Achievers’ Award 2019 as one of the great evenings of my life.”

Calling Asha Bhosle an unmatchable outstanding singer, Bappi Lahiri said, “My heartfelt good wishes to the NBC Group Editor Vaidehi. Newsmakers Achievers’ Award is an exceptional event to honour the achievers and I was too honoured with the Lifetime Achievement Award last year. It’s a delight to be a part of such an event. She is in true sense a star on the earth. She is an outstanding singer. No one in the world is as versatile as Asha Ji. I and Asha Ji have sung more than 500 songs together and it was an honour to share the stage with Asha Bhosle. My good wishes are for Newsmakers Achievers’ Award.”

The Newsmakers Achievers’ Award 2019 was dedicated to helping the Kashmiri orphan girls’ education. Orphan girls have to undergo various hardships in life as they lack parental support. They have to rely on NGOs for getting education in life. Our firm has taken a small initiative to support the education of Kashmiri orphan girls. Participation of eminent personalities from politics and entertainment field made the function a grand success.

Newsmakers started its glorious journey in 2009 with the launch of “Afternoon Voice” — a Mumbai based daily English newspaper — committed to the common man, and took this endeavour to serve the people of Mumbai and the entire nation with best possible authentic information surrounding our country in an objective manner. Within a short span of time, Newsmakers has got recognition and also carved a niche for itself in the media industry and it continues to add several reputed publications under its wings. All the publications have been successful in drawing the attention of all sections of the society. The year 2010 proved to be a glorious year for the Newsmakers, which was not enough. A step further was needed to recognise and felicitate the unsung heroes of our society and this thought led to the birth of “Newsmakers Achievers’ Award” which honours special people for their outstanding and selfless contribution towards the society. This is a unique event of charity and appreciation.

We made our newspaper, our readers communicate with us on a daily basis, and now most of our readers are content contributors and writers to Afternoon Voice. Interaction helps enrich both the editorial desk and the reader ultimately enhancing the content. It is a two-way process in which everybody learns and grows. We are here to question, praise, pull and plug everyone and anyone. We as a media house hold a lot of social responsibility. Being a parallel media, we are trying to make a difference. We are committed to uphold fair journalism and live with its truthfulness.

Legendary Bhosles – The real Asha (hope) and Anand (happiness)

It was our 10th Newsmakers Achievers’ Award this year and I wanted to call legendary singer Padma Vibhushan Asha Bhosle to accept the Lifetime Achievement Award. I had her son Anand’s number. He is youngest of his siblings but has taken on the role of being his mother’s manager, who is advising, and charting her career path with business acumen, ensuring that Asha Ji is taken care of and goes to worthy programs. Anand Bhosle is one sweetest and humblest human that I ever interacted with. No false attitude, no-nonsense, and no celebrity tantrums – such things are possible only when a person lives with the utmost integrity and social responsibility. Well, I somehow succeeded in establishing communication with him and that’s how finally Asha Ji arrived at “Newsmakers Achievers’ Award 2019.”

What energy and positive spirit she has, my generation has a lot to learn from Asha Ji and her son Anand. Most importantly, what we have to learn is to stay grounded and humble. She arrived exactly on given time, immediately came on the dais as she had to fly to some foreign destination. Anand beforehand ensured everything like a good manager-cum-son. The coordination was well guided and directed by him so that everything falls in place without any glitch. I never thought I would be learning so many things in this due process. I have grown listening to Asha Tai; we all know her singing versatility and acting abilities but trust me her son is equally committed towards her journey on the path that she has chosen. Well, that was one beautiful evening made possible by Anand.

Melody queen Asha Bhosle was among the celebrity recipients of the Newsmakers Achievers’ Award 2019, for their outstanding contribution in their respective fields. Asha Bhosle is that one star who is no alien to winning awards. She’s won 9 Filmfare Awards, 2 National Awards, and Padma Vibhushan but she was equally excited about receiving the latest award — the Newsmakers Achievers’ Award. To my surprise, she told the media, “I don’t go everywhere to accept awards, this is little different and I felt like coming here.” She further stated that awards are an appreciation by the people and it’s a nice feeling when people love you and appreciate what you do. Some media asked her, how special are these awards to you, do they still make a difference to you today after receiving Padma Vibhushan? She smiled and said, “I’ve won many awards including two National Awards and Dadasaheb Phalke Award, even the award that has its name starting with the Padma means it’s the most prestigious. Padma Shri, Padma Bhushan, Padma Vibhushan which are the most prestigious but even today also I naturally feel happy that my people have recognised my work. Any appreciation is a good feeling.”

She humbly thanked people for loving her and left for her further journey. She sang some songs, especially the very first song of her career and some from Bappi Lahiri’s compositions. Bappi’s most of the songs are sung by Asha Tai; seeing both of them singing together was a nostalgic moment. Padma Vibhushan Kanak Rele, who is another legend and previous year’s Lifetime Achiever of “Newsmakers Achievers’ Award, Dr. Vitthal Kamat and his 92-year-old mother — all were there to welcome Asha Tai. It was an unforgettable moment, looking at their ages, journey and success stories and yet the simplicity and affection they have, has taught me so much that one life is not enough to live with it. I am really blessed.

Asha Bhosle’s career started in 1943 and has spanned over seven decades. She has done playback singing for over a thousand Bollywood movies. In addition, she has recorded several private albums and contributed in numerous solo concerts in India and abroad. In 2011, she was officially acknowledged by the Guinness Book of World Records as the most recorded artist in music history. Renowned for her voice range and often credited for her versatility. Her work includes film music, pop, ghazals, bhajans, traditional Indian classical music, folk songs, qawwalis, and Rabindra Sangeets. Apart from Hindi, she has sung in over 20 Indian and foreign languages. In 2013, she made her debut as an actress in the film Mai and received critical acclaim for her performance.

Asha Tai is also an excellent cook and cooking is her favorite hobby. The love for cooking got Asha Tai into a popular restaurant business. She runs restaurants in Dubai and Kuwait called Asha’s. Asha’s offers traditional north-western Indian cuisine. It has a presence in the Wafi City development in Dubai, as well as three restaurants in Kuwait, at The Avenues Mall, the Marina Mall and a brand new third outlet at the Spoons Complex. Other restaurants can be found in Abu Dhabi’s Khaldiya Mall, Doha’s Villagio and Bahrain’s City Center Mall, Dubai’s Mall of the Emirates and Cairo, Egypt. She personally takes care of the kitchen and the décor. She individually trained the chefs for almost six months. She is a legend in all spares. I wish her long and peaceful life. Because Anand (happiness) and Asha (hope) that everyone wants in life, and I was really blessed with both in that night of awards. “Thanks” is a very small exchange of expression and gratitude to offer for the gesture they showed towards us.

The event was also blessed with the presence of yesteryear veteran actress Moushumi Chatterjee and veteran classical singer Pandit Ajay Pohankar. In an industry where it is common to sound the last trumpet for an actress no sooner has she tied the knot, Moushumi Chatterjee is a shining example of nothing can stop talent from flourishing. She made her debut as a teenager in Tarun Majumdar’s Bangla drama, Balika Badhu and her Bollywood debut was Anuraag (1972) directed by Shakti Samanta. Moushumi Chatterjee was considered as one of the most beautiful faces when she entered the industry in her early teens. The silver screen was brightened up with her blithe charm, pretty, puckish, playful, and carefree ways. Pandit Ajay Pohankar started his training under the guidance of his mother Dr. Susheela Pohankar – a renowned scholar, musicologist and Kirana Gharana vocalist – at the age of 5 and was introduced to North Indian classical world as a child prodigy at the age of 10 by none other than Ustad Aamir Khan Saheb. During a career spanning almost 5 decades, he has mastered many genres of music like Khayal, Thumri, Ghazal, Devotional, and Fusion and new age music and has mentored some of the elite music artists we have today. He is a world-renowned teacher and a perfect combination of world-class vocals, experience, and purity.

I and my team would always be grateful to Asha Ji, Moushumi Ji, Pandit Pohankar Ji, all other award receivers, and especially Anand Bhosle for making this event a special one.

Section 354 – Misuse by cops?

lead 5 5 19Police officials are known for maintaining law and order but sometimes they are also known for filing false complaints. Senior Advocate Sushan Kunjuraman had become a victim of false urination and molestation case filed against him by female police officer Varsha Gavit. He has forwarded a complaint to Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, Principal Secretary Ministry of Law & Judiciary, Principle Secretary, Ministry of Home Affairs and Senior Inspector of Police for taking appropriate action against Aarushi Ramhari Jadhav, female police officer Varsha Gavit, Sanjay Gholve and two other constables. According to Kunjuraman police is misusing section 354 of the Indian Penal Code by filing false molestation complaints against people.

Kunjuraman was travelling from Vikhroli to his residence after meeting his client at 1 am. After the vehicle reached western express highway he asked his driver to stop the vehicle for urinating. He went towards the metro construction fencing area for urinating and noticed Aarushi Ramhari Jadhav and Aamir Shaikh in an obscene position. They asked him to not urinate there. A heated argument started between Kunjuraman and the couple. Aarushi called the police control room. Later female police officer Varsha Gavit wearing a civil dress intervened and asked Kunjuraman to sit in the police vehicle. Gavit used indecent language against Kunjuraman and when he asked about her identity she refused to do so. She then took Kunjuraman to Kasturba Marg Police Station.

Aarushi too was present in the police station for filing complaint against Kunjuraman. She nonetheless did not file any molestation complaint against him. She informed the police that Kunjuraman was trying to urinate in a public place and she had raised objection against it. Gavit threatened to file molestation complaint against Kunjuraman. Who nonetheless defended himself and said that it was an urination case. A case was filed against Kunjuraman under section 354 and 354 (A) of the Indian Penal Code. She asked Kunjuraman to undergo a blood test under the guise of molestation case.

Section 354 is randomly being used by police against any person. They apply section 354 for behaving with any woman in an arrogant manner. There is no conviction. As a result police station and court is overloaded with small cases.

While talking with Afternoon Voice Senior Advocate Sushan Kunjuraman said, “Police stations have become a place for policemen to earn money by filing false complaints against people and blackmailing them. The girl who reaches the police station wins the race to get FIR filed against any person. The person who goes to the police station being the runner up will face an FIR of molestation. A preliminary inquiry should be held before applying section 354. There must be a circumstantial evidence to prove the crime and it should not be based merely on the statements of the girl.”

When Afternoon Voice tried to contact Aarushi Jadhav she remained unavailable for comment. We also tried to contact Senior Police Inspector of Kasturba Marg Police station but he refused to comment on this matter.

“What were Aarushi and Aamir doing in a secluded place? Was it not the duty of the officer to inquire about the same? Why her parents did not come to the police station? Why the lady officer did not call the girl’s parents to find out whether she hails from a good family background? She also did not undergo any medical test,” he added.

Astrology and attention seeking – Modi vs Rahul

As 2019 approached, many astrologers came out of their shell to talk about Modi and Rahul Gandhi. Ninety nine percent of Indian astrologers have predicted luck for Modi and unluck for Rahul Gandhi. Meanwhile, the business of Astrology has boomed in India, ahead of 2019 elections, every small and big politicians are approaching the astrologers to know what is written in their fate. On one hand, astrologers are prospering, on the other hand, their business in gem stones, yantra, mantra, pooja etc. We may not know the fortune of these politicians but the period seems to be very rich and wealthy for all the astrologers around. The Voters might have their mind-set but much is influenced via predictions too.

Coming to national Television channels – they are boring to death with different forecast for 2019. Some even go to the extent to tell that how India will be in coming year and what is the perfect fate of different celebrities. In short the astrologers have great future ahead as everyone is curious in knowing their own fortune. Meanwhile, there are special shows on ‘BHAVISHYAVANI’ with some Kochar, Acharya Indu Prakash, Acharya blah blah, some beautifully groomed fashonishtas talking about Tarrot. There are few who even gives you guarantee of 99 per cent results if you follow his/her instructions; some give tips on how to possess a man whom you love. These kinds of shows are nothing but a TRP gimmick. If these astrologers are so perfect in predicting things and has solutions and remedy for whatever you want to possess then they should actually try to own that 27/7 channel and telecast their rubbish 24/7. And as they have all the remedies, I am sure that they won’t need to struggle much to earn money because they know and have given loads of such tips earlier to bring wealth in life.

Indian Ministry of Information & Broadcasting should issue advisories to these TV channels for spreading “misinformation”, “fear” and “horror”. Every morning you’re imbibing some unexpected fear in common man’s mind. Some channel says today you’re lucky colour is red, some says it’s yellow while other says green. Who should one trust? From morning 7 to 9 a person’s vital time is wasted in watching such scrap. I know we are not forced to see such programmes but it’s a psyche of every common man as everyone are under stress, these kind of stupid things make them believe in what the astrologers are saying.

However, these days paid time slots on marketing channels of Dish TV’s have come up with new programme hosted, bunch of astrologers directly get connected to you, boast about them and give you thousands of instructions, the calls pour in and astrologers keep on promoting his business. How funny it is to know that if you call them to know how you can get your missing son back home, from there they predict and tell you to keep some coins in the right direction of main door which will result in your son to come back. Why don’t they ask Mumbai Police to follow these remedies as every day children go missing from Mumbai and have failed to return home? Then some woman suspects her hubby having extra marital affairs, and astrologer again gives a solution and promises that henceforth hubby will close his eyes and never look at any woman further. God knows whether these solutions work or not but that particular call costs six rupees per minute. Thus, you are losing 30 rupees minimum. Each such telecast generates lakhs of rupees. I think Family court should hire people like these to solve divorce issues and re-settle the families with their remedies.

The Indian Broadcasting Federation (IBF) and the News Broadcasters Association (NBA) members should exercise some restraint while broadcasting such content. Moreover hardcore news channels should stop practising such things. The commercial aspects of news channels are sucking the brains of common man by installing such superstition. They claim that daily dose of ‘Bhavishyavani’ aims to give you practical solutions to all your problems. Dial 0120 – 2517251 and make a refreshing start to know your stars, just a phone call away. How emotionally fools are we? They want to extract benefits by pinching your pocket early in the morning, and for one in ten thousands by fluke if that works he becomes publicity manager for the TV channel. The much faster and effective publicity is word of mouth publicity; these astrologers are very good at social engineering. These are the real hackers, they hack your faith, your emotions and over all the revenue from your pocket without your knowledge. I don’t know anybody who have ever reached their destination through these programmes. On the other hand, we take miracle dose to combat our problems, but nothing actually works. One of my employees took Rs 7000 loan from office, second day I realized she has taken that loan to buy an astrological stone to make her stars bright; her faith was forcing her to invest in stone for easy money and quick remedy. She wore that stone and soon after that lost her job due to some behavioural issues. As an editor of a newspaper I know that the only miracle that can make her successful is hard work. Finally, she became frustrated and decided to sell the stone back, she only received 30 per cent returns, and 70 per cent of money has been falsely wasted in superstition. Imagine how many people like her must be getting fooled every day?

No astrologer ever predicted what would be the fate of Kashmiri Pandits, will they ever return to their houses? Are we going to get money back from Swiss bank? Will we ever see the fifteen lakh amount promised by our PM in our accounts? Can Indian former be ever happy? Can the poverty ever get eradicated from India? Whereas the same astrologers predicted that Rahul Gandhi is not destined to become PM anytime soon. And Modi has bright future, well this much predictions are given by common people of this country who are not astrologers and the voters.

Why these astrologers failed to give suggestions to Anna Hazare and Baba Ramdev? Why these astrologers failed to make this very own channel the world’s most popular and number one channel, by providing remedy to switch off all other channels? Television is the next fastest-growing medium and is the largest contributor to global growth. Television’s share of the global ad market has risen steadily over time and shows no sign of reaching a plateau: The amount of time viewers spend watching television continues to increase. Even though viewers are presented with a wider choice of channels than ever, the biggest television show attracting record audiences is astrology and predictions; one of the major revenue chunks is earned by these creeps. We – the people need to be really smart by not getting influenced by such things. Your vote to politician is actual fate decider for this country and its welfare.

To see ourselves, we will have to close our eyes

meditation

Most of us are disturbed, depressed and unhappy simply because we try to find our own happiness in others. It’s same like, I am ill and some other person is being treated and I hope and believe that I will be all right. How is it possible?

Every emotions be it happiness, sadness, grief, love or hate, none of these comes from the top, from the sky but they all a result of chemical reaction that happens in our brain. It totally depends on us that what and how we want to feel about something when we feel it. But the problem is with our intellect: it’s so weak that we are unable to decide for ourselves hence we give this power of decision making to someone else to decide for us and this is the place from where the almost endless journey of sorrow and pain starts.

When we want or wish for something then we never try to make ourselves of that importance rather we conceive a senseless, clueless and illogical hope and want the environment and the situation to be in our complete favour so that we can get those things very easily even without making any effort. Whereas the fact is that, the environment and the situation have neither come in our favour nor will they come in the future. If we have got something in the past that we wished for then the simple reason is that we made ourselves worth that and worked for that in actual sense in the same way we didn’t get so many other things which we too wished to simply because we couldn’t make ourselves worth to reach to those stuffs we missed.

We always dominate the truth which we experience through our inner self, or with closed eyes by the truth we see through our open eyes. We think visible to be the only truth and we don’t know that the actual truth is always hidden behind the seen and to watch and to see that truth, instead of opening the eyes we must close it which we don’t do and as always the actual truth remained unseen. It is also said that we want to see the naked truth of this very life then we must close the eyes and then only we would see the actual truth that is truth not the false, or the illusion that we have named as truth. May be that’s why Buddha’s eyes are always closed. What do you think? Which one is the actual truth, that which we see through our open eyes or the one which we see and feel with our closed eyes, which one?

Our parent decided what and where we would study. Then after again either they decided or the elder siblings, after that either the neighbours or parent’s friends decided what we should study further. Films and society decided what to go with after 10th and 12th class. What to pursue afterwards was decided by the needs and helplessness and then we do job where our senior employees again decide for what we are to do and it goes on and on, and as the life passes by anger starts increasing and peacefulness decreasing. After a point of time we lose peacefulness totally and we keep doing what we don’t like and it goes on.

Most of the people spend their whole life just like this. However, most shocking part is that they even at the bed of their death don’t come to know why exactly they came into this earth and what they wanted to do their whole life? And then there comes a time when we know that what we want to do then again we immersed so much into social, so called personal and private life that it becomes impossible for us to follow our heart, we go deep down under the responsibility as a husband, as a father and so on and forth that except helplessness, grief and endless pain nothing comes into our hands. But again there are some very lucky people if you can say who manages to come out of that mould and start following to their heart and mind and live happily, contented and satisfied life. Jack Ma: founder of Alibaba, at the age of forty came to the realisation that he wants to become a teacher and a businessman. Before this he tried hundreds of works and found the solace nowhere.

If we truly and definitely want to know who we actually are then first we must go away means keep distance from our familiar, social, religious and economical bonding and attachments. We will have to observe ourselves deeply without being inspired, impacted or influenced by any of the above mentioned aspects. We will have to embrace solitude, after observing and understanding ourselves then must come to the knowledge that what are our strengths and weaknesses. How can we bring our talents to the highest and maximum use? In which field we do best for ourselves and for the whole humanity as well? After having a great and deep sense of understanding of all these aspects we should come to any decision that’s in some or the other way will influence and impact this whole world in being a better place.

meditation2

Our ultimate goal should not be of only to just pass this great life by eating, sleeping and producing more children because the animals, fishes, birds and insects follow the same life cycle of eating, sleeping and producing more children before they die. We have got this great mind, this big and wonderful mind and even after having this greatest of all gifts if we limit ourselves to just earn, eat, sleep and produce then what different there will be between these animals, insects and we the human being? I don’t think there would be any difference; we all species would be of the same life format of same life cycle. We can make this world a great place for the coming generations by using this wonderful brain but before thinking about all these stuffs we first would have to change and make ourselves better. We must save ourselves from jealousy, hatred, discrimination, greed and we must try to live life of a human being not the one these insects and animals go by.

Parents instill values and a sense of style in children

diary family parent child

Parents play an important role in transferring values and traditions to their kids. As a parent, it is your responsibility to make your kids aware of the various religions, languages, food, clothing style, and customs and tradition of India. With perseverance and patience, you should explain the rich legacy of our country that we have inherited from our ancestors. Kids should also be able to conceive the actual Indian culture which is much above the style of dressing or eating and has genuine respect for it. This awareness will enable kids to understand the global changes and imbibe the modified and modern version of the culture.

They might be little, but they still have big personalities and personal styles to express. So, what will it be for your little one this fashion season and how to dress them to perfection. When it comes to dressing kids in designer outfits, high flyers don’t exactly shy away from loosening purse strings. And, taking cue from the trend are Indian designers who are vying to plug the gap that’s often felt when it comes to kids fashion.

Picking out a dress for your tiny tot can be a task in itself. You want your little one to look his or her best, get compliments from all your friends and relatives and outshine all his or her peers. Make sure that what you pick out not only looks good but is also comfortable. Your child will be wearing the attire and running all around, dancing to music and playing with his friends. Similarly, if you have a daughter, you don’t want to weight her down with too much fluff and jewellery. Keep it simple, attractive and comfortable. Here are tips you can take inspiration from:

Your child will look smart carrying any one of the above as an accessory to his or her outfit. Of course, they might be enthusiastic in the beginning but tire out soon enough and stuff whatever they are carrying into your hands while they run off to play, but it would be worth to see them in the entire Navratri get up for at least some time. There is no need to dress to kill and spend too much on that, but dressing up a kid for the occasion is the need of the hour.

Internationally too, designers take children’s clothing rather seriously, with several top labels having dedicated lines for them. The label chooses fabrics that are comfortable and breathe easily when designing for children between the ages of one and 14 years. Often, these designers also create kids collections that are inspired from their adult lines. So, if you are looking to twin with your mini me, you have plenty of options to choose from. The collection boasts coats and jackets with removable fur that is inspired from its adult line.

Children don’t care about how fashionable they are looking. They want to run around and have fun. So make sure that their outfit allows them to be comfortable all the time. It is time to dress up your children for the occasion. Spare some extra time to see that they get the best look like you and make sure that they like the dress.  There lies the real success of dressing up the children with dedication and make them happy in the process.

Senior citizen an inspiration for many

Ansuya Gandhi aged 76 was an inspiration to many as she came to cast her vote on a wheelchair. One of the first people to vote in the early morning hours at the Goradia Nagar in Ghatkopar she truly was a sight with her spirit reflecting in her smile after the vote even though she could not walk.

With a recent heart surgery done and still recuperating from the ailment, she was determined to make her mark and contribution to the 2019 Lok Sabha elections. A true citizen, she did not care for the long queue or the heat while patiently waiting for her turn. Her enthusiasm and optimism, led many youth and youngsters to admire and feel proud of the fact that this condition too had her inspired to be a part of the elections.

Asking her what made her not care for her health and come she was quick in saying, “One vote can change a decision and give us a better government. Who knows my vote could be that contributing factor. Ever since I had a chance, I have ensured to be a part of the elections from times gone by and this year too there was no exception for the same. I feel so happy after casting my vote and contributing in a small way towards a better India. I hope that the new government inspires many and my efforts get rewarded.”

Inequality rules roost in India

The news report of the woman who accused CJI pulling out of probe by SC’s panel in CJI case does not come as a surprise. Inequality rules roost in India when it comes to the powerful rich and the weak poor and the sexual harassment case against Chief Justice of India Ranjan Gogoi was bound to fail. The woman seems to have been pressurised to pull out of the probe as even her lawyer was not allowed to accompany her to the proceedings inspite she having a hearing impairment.

Women rights activists along with social groups should stand with the woman who has been forced to pull out of the probe against CJI. A fair public trial is the need of the hour and Supreme Court should provide the services of a top lawyer to the woman who accused the CJI of sexual harassment so that justice can be delivered to the woman and accused punished if found guilty!

India should emulate Sri Lanka’s policy to prevent terrorism

It refers to media-reports that some terror-elements in India were found linked with recent terror-attack targeting Christian minority in the island-country. Sri Lanka swiftly took several bold remedial actions as safeguard against any such future terror-attacks.

Since India has been a victim of many such terror-attacks, it should prepare itself by taking measures like those of Sri Lankan government so that terror-groups may not find it easy to target anywhere in the country. It is significant that many other countries also take required steps without fearing of any criticism in name of so-called religious freedom.

Only Israel-like policy for being offensive against any terror-attempt can wash away terrorist-elements from India. Israel is fortunate enough where different political parties are united in fight against terrorism unlike in India where there are pseudo-secular political parties which resist any strong action by government in name of human rights and religious freedom.

Injustice meted against Tej Bahadur Yadav

This is very worrying about an unexpected decision of Election Commission when Tej Bahadur Yadav was prevented from contesting election against Prime Minister Narendra Modi. It comes at a time when many BJP’s candidates are contesting the election who were accused of murder, rape, sexual harassment and terrorism like heinous crime. Sadhvi Pragya Thakur is alleged to be a terrorist inspite of this Election Commission stops a person who is not alleged to be involved in any criminal case. People want to know what about so-called slogans of BJP such as “Sab Ka Saath Sab Ka Vikas” and “Main Bhi Chowkidar”. No doubt that was a golden opportunity for BJP to prove that they really support the country’s shoulders. However such decisions of EC smack of any pressure from which the institution is suffering, along with dictatorship of BJP that is against democratic soul. It would be not wrong to say that this is visible defeat of so-called Chowkidar versus real Chowkidar before coming in battle field.

Bring eunuchs in mainstream

Union government should constitute National Eunuch Commission. Unrestricted admission to any educational institution (private or public) for free education to eunuchs be made compulsory without needing any reserved quota. Government should be duty-bound to make eunuchs join mainstream with parents of new-born eunuch child neither allowed nor necessitated to deject their child to be handed over to isolated society of old eunuchs for begging, dancing or resorting to some anti-social activities. Rather criminal action should be taken against those parents who may disown transgender-child. Eunuchs forcing parents to part away with transgender-children should likewise be arrested and punished with stringent-most framed legal provisions. Nothing can improve till effective measures are taken to make eunuchs come out from their regular profession of dancing and begging. It is to be noted that even some men posing as eunuchs resort to force people for giving them money.

While all other criterion for reservation like caste or religion is man-made, eunuchs are dominated section of society created by nature. It is indeed pity that even the respectable and affording families disown their own eunuch-children. Not only eunuchs should be given priority and reservation in government-jobs, but also private institutions giving employment to eunuchs should be encouraged by providing special subsidy on wages paid to them by private establishments. Seats should be reserved for eunuchs in legislature and in public-sector jobs.

PM Modi taking people for a ride

Mr Narendra Modi, what has happened to the promises you made to the people of India in 2014? Why have they not been fulfilled? Why are you tight-lipped during press conferences?  You are the biggest liar in the world. You make promises after promises but do not fulfill any of them. You are taking the people of India for a ride.
