The COVID-19 crisis has dramatically changed how we work and also changed how we exercise and stay fit. As a form of exercise that can be easily practised even in a small enclosed space, Yoga has found new converts during the pandemic. Yoga played an essential role in everyone’s life as gyms were closed; runners and cyclists had no option.

Historically, Yoga was more than just a method of physical exercise as it is now being propagated; it was a way of life. Yoga, which originated in India and has been part of Indian civilization for millennia, is a practice that aligns our mind, body, and spirit and enhances mental clarity.

Everyone has dedicated themselves to a lifestyle and culture that surpasses meditation techniques and includes healthy eating habits, bathing habits, social interaction, and work. But the fundamental importance of the existence of life and its unison with the soul is often possible only through yoga illustrations in everyone’s life. Also, the theory of immunity to fight the virus gave Yoga a face shift. In this connection, from food to lifestyle, changes have been embraced by people worldwide.

The chapter Immunity Boosting Sleep says sound sleep for 6 to 8 hours at night is essential for good health because it is during such sleep when most functions of the body shut down, that the brain is free to give its full attention to assess the wear and tear of the system and repair the worn-out cells properly. Natural sleep has become a rarity in today’s world. Medicated sleep does not provide proper rejuvenation. A link is formed between the mind, the brain and the corresponding body part which is seen to have a relaxing and rejuvenating effect on them all. The writing is simple, straightforward and very intriguing. Yoga mudras are well depicted and if it is taken up with interest one can really benefit and enjoy the essence of life.

A special court on Saturday sentenced five people to seven years jail term for rigging a Pre-Medical Test (PMT) conducted by the Madhya Pradesh Professional Examination Board in 2009, known by its Hindi acronym Vyapam.

CBI Special Public Prosecutor (SPP) Ranjan Sharma said that in the year 2009, Sanyogita Ganj police had registered a case of cheating against six people during the PMT examination. In the examination, 2 students had sent two other people to take the examination in their place.

The accused are identified as Ravindra Dulawat, Satyapal Kustawar, Ashish Uttam, Shailendra Kumar and Sanjay Dulawat. The court of Additional Sessions Judge (CBI) Sanjay Kumar Gupta convicted Shailendra Kumar, Satyapal Kastawar, Ashish Uttam, Ravindra Dulawat, Dr Sanjay Dulawat, and Rampriya Das under sections 419, 420, 471, 467, 468, of Indian Penal Code and Madhya Pradesh Examination Recognition Act provisions.

The court also imposed a fine of Rs 10,000 each on them. CBI Special Public Prosecutor further said that the court found the five guilty after examining 70 witnesses.

“Shailendra Kumar was found giving the examination in place of Satyapal Kustawar, a student of MGM Medical College and in place of Ravindra Dulawat, Ashish was giving the best exam. Both of them were approached by middleman Dr Sanjay Dulawat and Rampriya Das,” said Ranjan Sharma.

After the Vyapam scam came to light in 2009, the Special Investigation Team (SIT) was formed in this case, as the investigation progressed, the cases went on increasing and the CBI had taken over the investigation following a Supreme Court order in 2016.

The court however acquitted Rampriya Das because of a lack of evidence against him, he added.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi during his monthly ‘Mann Ki Baat’ address on Sunday requested people to visit railway stations of historical importance — especially those related to the Indian freedom movement.

Through an initiative named ‘Azadi Ki Railgadi Aur Railway Station’, the objective is to make people know the role of Indian Railways in the freedom struggle.

“There are many such railway stations in the country, which are associated with the history of the freedom movement. You too will be surprised to know about these railway stations,” the Prime Minister said in the 91st edition of Mann Ki Baat.

Those 75 stations are being specially decked up and several events are also being organized at such locations as part of celebration of 75th year of India’s Independence.

He further requested teachers of nearby schools to visit such stations and narrate the incidents and explain the relevance to the students. “You must also find time to visit such historic stations near your place, you will come to know in detail about such aspects of the freedom movement which you were not aware of.”

Talking about Gomoh Junction in Jharkhand, he said the station is now officially known as Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose Junction Gomoh as Netaji Subhash at this very station was successful in dodging British officers by boarding the Kalka Mail.

“All of you must have heard the name of Kakori Railway Station near Lucknow. The names of bravehearts like Ram Prasad Bismil and Ashfaq Ullah Khan are associated with this station. The brave revolutionaries had displayed their might to the British by looting the treasury of the British being carried by train,” he said.

Further, about Vanchi Maniyachchi Junction in Thoothukudi district of Tamil Nadu, he reminded people that the station was named after Tamil freedom fighter Vanchinathan who at 25 years of age had punished one British collector for his actions.

“Friends, this list is pretty long. 75 such railway stations have been identified spread over 24 states across the country. These 75 stations are being decorated very ornately. Many types of programs are also being organized in these. You should also take out time to visit one such historical station in your vicinity,” Modi said.

Speaking about the ‘Har Ghar Tiranga’ initiative, he asked people to further the movement by hoisting the National Flag at their homes during August 13-15. “Tricolour connects us, inspires us to do something for the country,” he added.

Further, he suggested people keep the National Flag as their social media profile pictures during August 2-15. August 2 has a special significance as it is the birth anniversary of the designer of the Indian National Flag Pingali Venkaiah.

Right after the Enforcement Directorate (ED) team reached Shiv Sena MP Sanjay Raut’s residence in Mumbai on Sunday morning in connection with a money laundering case, Raut lashed out at the Centre, saying that “Maharashtra and Shiv Sena will continue to fight” and denied having any role in the case. “Maharashtra and Shiv Sena will continue to fight,” tweeted Raut in Marathi today morning. “False action. False evidence. I will not leave Shiv Sena. Even if I die, I will not surrender. Jai Maharashtra,” the tweet read.

In a flurry of tweets, Raut asserted that he won’t quit the Shiv Sena and keep on fighting amid the ED action against him.

“I have nothing to do with any scam. I am saying this by taking the oath of Shiv Sena chief Balasaheb Thackeray. Balasaheb taught us how to fight. I will continue to fight for Shiv Sena,” said Raut in a tweet. The series of tweets further read, “Long live Shiv Sena!!! Will keep fighting..”

The Enforcement Directorate (ED) team reached Shiv Sena MP Sanjay Raut’s residence in Mumbai on Sunday morning.

Raut is being investigated by the ED in connection with a money laundering case linked to alleged irregularities involving the re-development of a Mumbai ‘chawl.’

Meanwhile, supporters of Raut gathered outside his residence, raising slogans against the ED and BJP.

On June 28 this year, Raut was summoned by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) in connection with the money laundering case pertaining to the Rs 1,034 crore Patra Chawl land scam.

Refusing to join the probe and citing the Monsoon Session of Parliament as a reason for not joining the probe, he had then dared the probe agency to arrest him. Later, he reached the ED office.

The ED, which took Pune-based businessman Avinash Bhosale into custody earlier in connection with the DHFL-Yes Bank case, wants to grill Raut in this matter too, as per sources.

They claim that the Patra Chawl case is also linked to the DHFL case. In April, the ED provisionally attached assets worth over Rs 11.15 crore of Raut’s wife Varsha Raut and two of his associates as part of this investigation.

The attached properties are in the form of land held by Pravin M Raut, Sanjay Raut’s aide and a former director of Guru Ashish Construction Pvt Ltd, at Palghar, Saphale (town in Palghar) and Padgha (in Thane district).

The attached properties also include a flat in Mumbai’s suburb Dadar held by Varsha Raut and eight plots at Kihim beach in Alibaug jointly held by Varsha Raut and Swapna Patkar, wife of Sujit Patkar, the ED said in a statement.

According to the ED, Sujit Patkar is a close associate of Sanjay Raut. After arresting Pravin Raut in February, the ED had said he appears to be “acting as a front” or in collusion with some influential person(s).

The agency had said during the probe it was revealed he made payments to certain “politically exposed persons”. The investigative agency is probing the matter.

Maha Cong chief Nana Patole seeks removal of Governor Koshyari 9

Maharashtra Congress Chief Nana Patole has condemned Governor Bhagat Singh Koshyari’s statement, demanding an apology from him.

“We condemn the remarks made by Maharashtra Governor Bhagat Singh Koshyari. He should apologise to the public. He should be removed from his position with immediate effect,” said Nana Patole on Saturday.

Patole further said, “Koshyari even does not know the history of Maharashtra. The state has turned Dhiru Bhai Ambani into a great industrialist. Here in Maharashtra, people from every state are respected. Governor’s statement is not appropriate and therefore, the President, the Prime Minister and The Home Minister of the country should intervene in this matter.”

Earlier on Friday, during a speech at a public event in Mumbai’s Andheri, Maharashtra Governor Bhagat Singh Koshyari said, “Sometimes I tell people in Maharashtra that if Gujarati and Rajasthani people are removed from here, then you will be left with no money. You call Mumbai the financial capital, but if these people of both these states are not here, then it won’t be called financial capital.”

The statement, however, triggered a political storm with many claiming that the sentiments of Marathi people were hurt and their contribution ignored. Many political leaders took to Twitter to oppose the governor’s statement.

Shiv Sena MP Sanjay Raut claimed that Koshyari’s speech was an insult to the people of Maharashtra. He urged Chief Minister Eknath Shinde to condemn the statement. “The Marathi man gets insulted as soon as a BJP-sponsored Chief Minister is in power. CM Shinde should, at least, condemn the Governor. This is an insult to Marathi hard-working people,” Raut said in a tweet on Saturday.

In another tweet, Raut said, “Chief Minister Shinde, are you listening? That your Maharashtra is different. If you have self-respect, then seek the resignation of the governor.

Shiv Sena MP Priyanka Chaturvedi, meanwhile, demanded an apology from the governor. “This is an insult to the hard work of the people of Maharashtra and Marathi Manoos who have toiled day in and day out to make the state the leading state of the country. The Governor should apologize immediately, failing which, we will demand to replace him,” she tweeted.

Pak court summons PM Shehbaz Sharif, his son Hamza on Sept 7 11

Pakistan Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and his son Hamza Shehbaz have been summoned by a Lahore-based special court on September 7 in connection with PKR 16 billion money laundering case against them.

The court summoned the father-son duo on Sept 7 for the framing of charges and adjourned the hearing till that date, the Dawn newspaper reported.

The Pak PM and his two sons were booked by the country’s Federal Investigation Agency (FIA), in November 2020 under “sections 419, 420, 468, 471, 34 and 109 of Prevention of Corruption Act and r/w 3/4 of Anti Money Laundering Act.”

The Pakistani newspaper said Shehbaz’s lesser-known son Suleman Shehbaz is in the UK and has been declared an absconder. A total of 14 others have also been named in the FIR in an anti-corruption act.

Shehbaz and Hamza have already been granted pre-arrest bail in the case filed by the FIA. Both of them have asked for a one-time exemption on their behalf during the hearing today.

Pakistan PM’s lawyer told the court that Shehbaz Sharif had been advised not to travel as he was not well. “The weather was unpleasant yesterday which is why he did not come today.”

Back in December last year, FIA had submitted the challan against Shehbaz and Hamza to a special court for their alleged involvement in the sugar scam case.

“The investigation team has detected 28 benami accounts of the Shehbaz family through which money laundering of Rs16.3bn was committed during 2008-18. The FIA examined the money trail of 17,000 credit transactions,” the FIA report said.

According to the report, the amount was kept in hidden accounts and given to Shehbaz in a personal capacity.

“Eleven low-paid employees of the Sharif group who ‘held and possessed’ the laundered proceeds on behalf of the principal accused, are found guilty of facilitating money laundering. The three other co-accused of the Sharif group also actively facilitated the money laundering,” the agency was quoted as saying by Dawn.
