"Separating Mumbai from Maharashtra is as impossible as separating Maharashtra from India": LoP Fadnavis 2

Shiv Sena leader Sanjay Raut on Friday accused the BJP of conspiring to make Mumbai a Union Territory. He also stated that they have made the presentation to the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA). Talking to reporters, Raut alleged that former BJP MP Kirit Somaiya and a group of party leaders, builders, and entrepreneurs were part of this conspiracy.

Answering the allegation, state opposition leader Devendra Fadnavis said, “Whenever Shiv-Sena has no answers and no face to show, they advance such statements. Separating Mumbai from Maharashtra is as impossible as separating Maharashtra from India. Both things are impossible and everyone knows that. Shiv Sena should answer the corruption charges rather than repeating the outdated rhetoric.”

BJP spokesperson Madhav Bhandari told Afternoon voice, “Unfortunately, Shiv Sena is in denial mode. They are living in an imaginary world and making all self-invented allegations. They should come real and answer the corruption charges against them; they should come to clean out of ED and IT probes. If they make mindless statements, people will lose faith in them.”

RTI activist Anil Galgali said, “On December 4, 1959, they divided it into the bilingual state. After resolving the Mumbai State Restructuring Bill in Parliament on May 1, 1960, the State of Maharashtra was established, along with Mumbai. Therefore, it is not possible to make Mumbai a union territory now. It can’t happen as someone thought. Considering that the ruling party was taught a lesson by the people, no party will make such a big mistake.”

BJP spokesperson Suresh Nakhua said, “This comment by SS leader is nothing but a dream. As the situation is, it confined only Shivsena to Mumbai in Maharashtra. So, this comment is being made to create unnecessary trouble in Mumbai and Maharashtra.”

AAP leader Dhananjay Shinde said, “Aam Aadmi Party will never allow Mumbai to get divided from its State. The AAP has a separate Vidarbha on its party agenda, but not Mumbai as a Union territory. RSS has small states on its agenda. Modi and Shah can move the Industrial corridor under the name of Vibrant Gujarat.”

Mumbai Mayor Kishori Pednekar said, “Mumbaikars will never let the centre govern us. Mumbai is a part of Maharashtra for decades now and will remain so. We have Economic, Financial and Cultural values. Nobody can separate Mumbai.”

Congress spokesperson Sachin Sawant said, “The Centre’s actions speak loud enough that they are against Maharashtra, their every move is against us. Their eyes are on Mumbai as it is the financial capital that they want to keep in their control. Shiv Sena is right that BJP is trying to separate Mumbai and Maharashtra. We oppose this BJP policy.”

Maharashtra Navnirman Sena, Vice-President, Yashwant Killedar said, “This whole issue is racked up for the upcoming BMC elections. Mumbaikars are intelligent enough to understand this politics and they will never let something like this happen. About 107 people have laid their lives for the inclusion of Mumbai as a part of Maharashtra, we can never forget it.”

INS Vikrant fund scam: Kirit Somaiya and Neil Somaiya booked under Sections 420 4

On the complaint of a former soldier Baban Bhosle, the FIR was filed against Somaiya for siphoning Rs 57 crores collected through crowd-funding in 2013-14 to reserve INS Vikrant. Sanjay Raut said “Somaiya and his aides collected the money through a campaign led by Somaiya in 2013-14 to turn the carrier into a museum. The collected money was supposed to be deposited with the Raj Bhavan. When I asked for the information from Raj Bhavan under the Right to Information Act, it established that the money was never deposited.”

Senior Police Inspector, Rehana Sheikh said, “A case has been registered against Kirit Somaiya and Neil Somaiya under Sections 420 (Cheating and dishonestly inducing delivery of property), 406 (Punishment for criminal breach of trust) and 34 (Acts done by several persons in furtherance of common intention) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) in the Trombay Police station in Mumbai for INS Vikrant financial bungling.”

Somaiya said he is ready to face any action. “No scam has taken place, not even worth a rupee in Vikrant fund collection. I have not done anything wrong. I am not scared of any action. Raut has been pressing allegations but has not given proof to validate them. I have not received a copy of the FIR. I will keep exposing the Uddhav Thackeray government. I dare Thackeray to give information available to him.”

Somaiya spoke everything but did not answer a specific question about whether he collected the money and submitted it to the governor or the government. Raut alleged that Somaiya had collected money to save Vikrant to target then Congress chief minister Prithviraj Chavan’s government, which declined to pay for preventing it from getting scrapped.

The Vikrant Files rattletraps BJP's Kirit Somaiya? 6

We have many reasons to feel proud about INS Vikrant an Indigenous Aircraft Carrier 1 (IAC-1) which is the first aircraft carrier built in India. After long delays, the vessel is finally scheduled to be commissioned into the Indian Navy in August 2022. Flight trials of its aircraft complement are expected to be completed by mid-2023, after which the ship will be fully operational. Vikrant’s aim is “Jayema Sam Yudhi Sprdhah” in English “I completely defeat those who dare to fight with me.” This ship is a lethal Combatant which dared the global influence of that time during a war that is fast turning out as a third world war. INS Vikrant played a vital role in giving independence to Bangladeshis from Pakistan. The Grand Old vessel with a great story to tell to the future generations of the nation she served with peerless bravery and absolute demonstration of leadership.

Can you imagine a political leader making money out of such a legendary Naval Vassal, who has created proud and brave moments in Indian history? When the vessel gracefully retired, BJP leader Kirit Somaiya and his son Neil collected Rs 57 crore funds in the name of saving INS Vikrant. Commissioned in 1961, a Majestic-class aircraft carrier of the Indian Navy, had played a key role in enforcing the naval blockade of East Pakistan during the Indo-Pakistan War of 1971. It was decommissioned in 1997. In January 2014, the ship was sold through an online auction and scrapped in November. BJP leaders started a campaign stating he would convert the vessel into Museum and save her from getting scrapped.

Somaiya had started a campaign to raise funds for INS Vikrant. He had collected more than Rs 57 crore for the purpose. However, instead of depositing the amount to the Maharashtra governor’s secretary’s office, he embezzled the funds. The case against Kirit Somaiya and his son was filed based on a complaint lodged by a 53-year-old former Army personnel. We Indians are very sensitive towards our aircraft, ships and defence personnel. They guard us unconditionally and their bravery can’t be expressed in one article.

The irony is that since BJP came to power, they have been baking their bread on the armed forces. The Narendra Modi government politicized surgical strikes to garner votes. BJP has always used our defence forces for some or other gain. Kirit Somaiya’s gulping funds would not surprise even if it is true. Remember the Coffin ‘scam’ that ended George Fernandes’ political career. He was accused of being involved in the Coffin scam and corruption got exposed by a sting operation by the Tehelka news portal. Fernandes was the defence minister in the Vajpayee-led NDA government when India fought with — and emerged victorious against — Pakistan in the Kargil war in 1999. Bangaru Lakshman had to resign and pause his political career.

Now it’s time for Kirit Somaiya, he collected about Rs 50 crore from the people as part of a campaign to save the INS Vikrant but the fund wasn’t submitted to the state exchequer. Shiv Sena’s leader demanded a probe by the Maharashtra government against Somaiya while also claiming that it’s a fit case to be probed by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), Income Tax (IT) and Enforcement Directorate (ED). Such a scam is an offence against the nation. We as voters can understand economic scams by the politicians, but BJP is a serial offender. From Kargil to Pulwama’s attack the dead bodies of Indian jawans became tools for political campaigns. Even today no one knows how Pulwama happened. Ahead of the elections, many such incidents took place and our jawans lost their lives. We have also seen Bofors, Agusta Westlands and Rafale scams, all of these scams are linked to the nation’s security.

Commoner’s patriotic sentiments are misused, manipulated and misinterpreted for political gains. If our PM is serious in what he says about Indian defence personnel then he should not hesitate to order a probe against Kirit Somaiya. The Army man is saying that he gave his hard-earned money as donations to Kirit Somaiya for saving the ship and the BJP leader had collected more than Rs 57 crore for the purpose. Where has that money gone? Somaiya fascinated people with the ‘Save Vikrant’ campaign in the name of saving the ship. His volunteers were spread across to collect money by wearing t-shirts and jerseys with Campaign statements and going to Mumbai airport and railway stations. Many people backed the campaign in the name of the INS Vikrant and donated whatever they could. The common public also pushed funds into those campaign boxes.

If we believe what Shiv Sena leader Sanjay Raut has stated, then the truth must come out. Somaiya then media statements that he will submit the money to Raj Bhavan’s account by opening a separate independent account. Whereas Rajya Bhawan is clueless about any such submissions. Hope our central home ministry, defence ministry, Income Tax, and the CBI hold an inquiry. It is directly a case of sedition. In the recent past, many political leaders are on the IT and ED radar, their offences are still not anti-national, they have done scams and the probe is on but collecting funds in the name of Naval Ship and showing no accountability is national wrongdoing. I tried connecting Somaiya to know his side of the version but the calls went unanswered. In the meantime, Mumbai police have registered an FIR, Somaiya for proof and Raut invited investigation, let’s wait for the truth to be revealed.

Shiv Sena cannot afford to lose BMC to the BJP

bmc, bmc elections, devendra fadnavis, fadnavis, shiv sena, sena, bhajapa, bmc, brihanmumbai municipal corporation, bmc elections 2022
Shiv Sena cannot afford to lose BMC to the BJP 8

Previous Elections of BMC fought four corners, BJP-SS-NCP-INC all fought against each other. Despite tough competition, Shiv Sena got 84 seats and BJP got 82. This time BMC Elections would be most critical because Shiv Sena might suffer an enormous loss and BJP will be the biggest gainer. Shiv Sena has yielded most of its hardcore Hindu voters to BJP, and the result reflects it.

BJP may have its mutual understanding with MNS. If Shiv Sena goes with the NCP & Congress alliance, it will help BJP and if Shiv Sena goes alone then in 3–4 corner contests, it will benefit BJP. So, in both scenarios, BJP will have an advantage. Non-Marathi Hindu voters may get polarized in favour of the BJP. The frequent ED and income tax raids on Shiv Sena leaders are another disadvantage to the ruling party. BJP, with the help of central agencies, successfully damaged the ruling party’s image.

In 2017, BJP won 82 seats resulting from Modi waves and the extra push they had due to power in Maharashtra Assembly, something which they don’t have right now. The local leadership has become irrelevant; Vinod Tawde and Ashish Shelar, like leaders who have knowledge about Mumbai, are side-lined. But still, Devendra has gracefully countered the ruling government, pushing them neck-deep into some other legal inquiries.

Shiv Sena gave good governance, no matter what the development works never stopped in the state. Mumbai’s every corner has seen beautification, but they lacked showcasing their work. At this moment, Shiv Sena should go aggressive in their campaign by telling people about their development plans and whatever they delivered so far. It’s high time they talk about all that they have done for the state.

Shiv Sena should recuperate its Shakha network. Mumbaikar’s biggest support system was Shiv-Sainiks’ presence around every corner. These Shakhas were the backbone of Shiv Sena. Party should give utmost priority to Shakhas and reinstall them. If Shakhas become powerful, most of the BJP’s attacks are nullified on the ground level. At least people will not switch their loyalties. Shiv Sena has grown more popular in Mumbai than before; they now also have a decent vote share in Gujarati and the Muslim populations.

It is a very dicey proposition for Shiv Sena to hand over the reins of BMC to the BJP since for them it is a milking cow to oil the wheels of its organisation. The current Shiv Sena is a shadow of its past. The dilution of its core behaviour has changed lots of equations for them. In the recent past, Uddhav looked more tired of answering the attacks of the opposition. Most of his leaders are under ED’s scanner. Central agencies hassled his family members. Aditya Thackeray is yet to mature in politics to stand strong against BJP’s brutal attacks.

Historically, the Sena was good at resolving local issues. It was Shiv Sena pramukh Balasaheb Thackeray who alone handled the rise and success of the party. Post his demise, Shiv Sena has not lost its political relevance but seems to have lost the political edge the Sena supremo used to provide. Ideologically, Shiv Sena started on a pro-Marathi plank and soon moved to a wider Hindutva based politics that generated substantial support beyond its traditional Marathi base. They could establish themselves beyond a specific linguistic group with a reasonable amount of success.

With the growth of BJP pan India and also significantly in Maharashtra, they have put Shiv Sena on the back foot. It forced them to play a secondary role post assembly election. Most Mumbaikar are not happy with Shiv Sena’s performance in BMC over the past decades. Shiv Sena kept power because there was no better option available and also BJP was their ally. Now the ally has changed and people have primarily two options. There are chances that the vote share may shift to BJP. Things are changing now with the convincing performance of the BJP. Gujarati, who did support Shiv Sena, also seem to have switched sides with the rise of the BJP.

In 2022, it’s almost sure that BMC may slip out of Shiv Sena and BJP will take on. There is no dearth of issues plaguing the city of Mumbai. BMC has been a cash cow for Shiv Sena for decades as it is the richest Municipal Corporation in India with an annual budget that is probably higher than some state budgets.  In the previous BMC election, BJP came within touching distance of Shiv Sena with a difference of a mere two seats. After the present situation, the BMC election becomes very important for all parties. BJP will hope to take charge of governance in BMC if Shiv Sena won’t pull their socks.

Pak SC to resume hearing on dismissal of the no-trust vote against PM, dissolution of Parliament

Pak SC to resume hearing on dismissal of the no-trust vote against PM, dissolution of Parliament 13

The Supreme Court of Pakistan on Wednesday will resume the hearing on the dismissal of a no-confidence vote against embattled Prime Minister Imran Khan and the dissolution of Parliament by the president on his advice.

President Arif Alvi dissolved the National Assembly (NA) on Sunday on the advice of Prime Minister Khan, minutes after Deputy Speaker Qasim Suri rejected a no-confidence motion against the premier, who had effectively lost the majority in the 342-member lower house of Parliament.

Chief Justice Umar Ata Bandial said that all orders and actions initiated by the prime minister and the president regarding the dissolution of the National Assembly will be subject to the court’s order.

On Monday and Tuesday, a larger bench of the apex court – comprising Chief Justice Bandial, Justice Ijazul Ahsan, Justice Mazhar Alam Khan Miankhel, Justice Munib Akhtar and Justice Jamal Khan Mandokhail – took up the matter after Deputy Speaker Suri rejected the move to dislodge the prime minister by declaring the no-trust motion unmaintainable due to its link with a so-called foreign conspiracy.

President Alvi, the Supreme Court Bar Association and all political parties have been made respondents in the case.

Lawyers from the government and the Opposition presented their arguments regarding the ruling by the deputy speaker.

During the arguments, Chief Justice Bandial said that even if the Speaker of the National Assembly cites Article 5 of the Constitution, the no-confidence motion cannot be rejected.

If Khan gets a favourable ruling, elections will take place within 90 days. If the court rules against the deputy speaker, Parliament will reconvene and hold the no-confidence vote against Khan, experts said.

Chief Justice Bandial on Monday said the court would issue a ”reasonable order” on the issue that has led to political and constitutional crisis in the country. During the proceedings, Justice Ahsan noted that there were violations in the proceedings of the no-trust resolution.

Justice Bandial observed that a debate before voting on the no-confidence motion had been clearly mentioned in the law but didn’t take place.

The decision of the court would etermine the legality of the presidential order to dissolve the National Assembly.

However, the Opposition parties rejected both the ruling of the deputy speaker and the dissolution of parliament, and not only challenged it in court but also fought tooth and nail outside the Supreme Court.

Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) leader Shehbaz Sharif at a press conference accused Prime Minister Khan of violating the Constitution and imposing a civil-martial law in the country.

On Wednesday, Indraprastha Gas Limited (IGL) increased the price of Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) in Delhi by Rs 2.5 per kilogram, taking the total increase to Rs 6.6 in five days. With this revision, the CNG will cost Rs 2.5 per Kg with effect from today.

For Ghaziabad, Noida and Greater Noida, the CNG price has been hiked to Rs 69.18 per kg, while in Gurugram, it will cost Rs 74.94 per kg. Meanwhile, fuel prices have gone up by another 80 paise a litre today. Petrol and diesel in the past 16 days and after 14 hikes have become dearer by Rs 10 a litre.

Petrol in the national capital crossed the Rs 105 mark today, whereas, in Mumbai, it has surpassed Rs 120. With the latest hike in prices, petrol now costs Rs 105.41 per litre in Delhi, whereas diesel is priced at Rs 96.67 per litre.

In Mumbai, petrol costs Rs 120.51 per litre after an increase of 84 paise and diesel is selling at Rs 104.77 a litre, increasing by 85 paise. Union Minister for Petroleum and Natural Gas Hardeep Singh Puri on Tuesday defended the central government over the issue of fuel price hike, comparing it with that of other countries, saying that India has merely seen a change of “only 5 per cent”.

“Fuel prices hiked in India are 1/10th of the change of prices in other countries. Comparing gasoline (petrol) prices between April 2021 and March 2022, the prices in the United States of America (USA) have increased by 51 per cent, Canada by 52 per cent, Germany by 55 per cent, the United Kingdom (UK) by 55 per cent, France by 50 per cent, Spain 58 per cent but in India only 5 per cent,” said Puri in Lok Sabha.

However, the Opposition has been stepping up pressure on the government with demand for the rollback of the fuel price hike.

Sanjay Raut claimed he did not know where the Patra Chawl is located

Sanjay Raut claimed he did not know where the Patra Chawl is located 16

The ED has attached eight land parcels in Alibag and a flat in Mumbai’s Dadar suburb linked to Raut and his family. The agency issued a provisional attachment under the PMLA to freeze the land parcels (plots) and a flat. They link the attachment to a money-laundering investigation linked to a Rs 1,034 crore worth land ‘scam’ related to the re-development of a ‘chawl’ in Mumbai, according to reports.

While speaking to the news agency ANI Shiv Sena leader Sanjay Raut said, “I’m not one to get scared, seize my property, shoot me, or send me to jail, Sanjay Raut is Balasaheb Thackeray’s follower and a Shiv Sainik, he’ll fight and expose everyone. I’m not one to stay quiet, let them dance. The truth will prevail”: Speaking to reporters, the senior Shiv Sena leader said this had resulted from his efforts to establish the Maharashtra Vikas Aghadi (MVA) government in the state, and his refusal to succumb to demands that he must help destabilise it.”

He also claimed that the properties, which were seized, were self-earned, and if they proved that he and his wife had even a rupee in black money, he would donate all his properties to the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).

According to Raut, the Alibag land had been purchased in 2009 and the loan of Rs 55 lakh taken from Pravin Raut’s wife was reflected in his election affidavits, the money had also been repaid. Raut claimed that he did not know where the Patra Chawl was located.

In a statement, the ED said, “The attached assets are in form of lands held by Pravin M Raut, former director of Guru Ashish Construction Pvt Ltd, Mumbai at Palghar, a flat at Dadar of Varsha Raut and plots at Kihim beach at Alibag jointly held by Varsha Raut wife of Shri Sanjay Raut and Swapna Patkar, wife of Sujit Patkar.”

The central agency had arrested Pravin Raut on February 4 under the PMLA. It had been found that Pravin received Rs 100 crore from HDIL and “diverted” it to various accounts of “his close associates, family members, his business entities” including the family of Sanjay Raut. The ED said its probe into the irregularities in the redevelopment of Patra chawl has found that they signed a tripartite agreement between the Maharashtra Housing and Area Development Authority (MHADA) and Guru Ashish Construction Pvt Ltd. As per the agreement, Guruashish was to provide flats to 672 tenants of the chawl, develop flats for MHADA and then sell the remaining area to private builders.

Uttar Pradesh ATS arrived in Mumbai to probe the Gorakhnath temple case 18

IIT graduate Ahmed Murtuza Abbasi was sent to judicial custody for 14 days for attacking two PAC constables with a sharp-edged weapon at the Gorakhnath temple, of which UP chief minister Yogi Adityanath is the head priest, the court has given police one week remand of the accused.

Murtaza Abbasi, 29, has been captured in mobile videos, waving a sickle outside the Gorakhnath shrine and attacking police officers who tried to stop him. UP Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, spoke with the injured police officers in the hospital and saw the crime scene.

Murtaza has been charged by the Uttar Pradesh police with attempting to murder and inciting religious hatred. The police described the incident as a terror attack, adding that their probe would focus on the possibility of a bigger conspiracy.

On Sunday, a video of the attack at the gate of the temple in Gorakhpur went viral on social media. Gopal Gaud and Anil Paswan, personnel of the 20th Battalion of PAC, were at the main gate when Abbasi, with a bag in his hand, got into a scuffle with them. Suddenly, he took out a sharp weapon wrapped in a cloth from his bag and attacked and injured the jawans, according to onlookers and the personnel. Abbasi’s family has claimed he is mentally unstable and looking at the hate spewed against Muslims, the guy was carrying a knife in his bag. When he saw cops approaching him, he thought they were going to frame him.

It is also suspected that accused Ahmad Murtaza Abbasi was influenced by Zakir Naik. The accused’s laptop has revealed that he was ‘influenced by Zakir Naik’s ideas’. Meanwhile, Uttar Pradesh Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS) arrived in Mumbai to probe the Gorakhnath temple attack case.
