24×7 COVID Vaccine Centres; Maharashtra government wants to speed up the vaccination drive

Amidst increasing cases of COVID-19, Maharashtra government has allowed all Corona vaccination centers in the state to operate round-the-clock. The hospitals and clinics have asked to appoint adequate staff, to speed up the injection drive in the state.

Suresh Mistry, an interior decorator of Pune told Afternoon voice, “I have taken one dose and wish to take a second dose too. So far nothing has happened to me, I am perfectly fine. There is unnecessary rumor-mongering on social media, we must trust in Vaccination and protect ourselves and our families”.

A health official at the COVID vaccination center said, “So far, 21.25 lakh people have been vaccinated against the COVID infection, people are hesitant but slowly they are coming forward. What we need is awareness about the vaccine.”

Dr. Sunil Baliram Gaikwad, former BJP MP shared his experience and said “I took my vaccine from Latur’s Gayatri hospital and Dr Ramesh Bharate did my vaccination. It is not only safe but painless too. I wanted to encourage my people, that’s why instead of just giving suggestions I chose to get vaccinated first. We all should be responsible for our own safety and safety of the people around.”

Maharashtra Health Department’s principal secretary Dr. Pradeep Vyas spoke to Afternoon Voice and said, “Presently, all our medical staff and front desk workers are locating people above 60 years of age and those aged between 45 and 59 with co-morbidities are eligible to get the vaccine shots. The state government wants to speed up the vaccination process to cover the eligible population. In this process, the Maharashtra health department is also adding more vaccination centers in the state. A number of private hospitals have also been roped in for the vaccination drive.”

Though, the only challenge health officials are facing is some people coming up with fake medical certificates to show they are qualified to take the vaccine, said Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC).

“We found some people in their late 40s who came up with fake medical certificates of co-morbidities to get the vaccine. When we asked to explain their ailment, we found they were insincere. Now BMC is on the hunt for locating such clinics and pathological centers also who are issuing these fake certificates, asserted an official from the department.

Meanwhile, 29 hospitals in Mumbai have been given nod to give COVID vaccine in addition to the BMC centers. BMC has allowed private hospitals to operate beyond working hours and has kept the daily vaccination target of 1 lakh.

Dr. Arya of Sanjeevan Criticare hospital said, “Since we have started Vaccination drive, many senior citizens volunteered themselves to us. There is a willingness in people to fight COVID, in spite of negative publicity”. When asked about the availability of vaccines, she said “government is taking care of adequate supply, there is nothing fear”.

“Promoting a film is something that I don’t enjoy at all”: Sharman Joshi

Sharman joshi, sharman, joshi, 3 idiots, fauji calling
Actor Sharman Joshi, who began his career with Gujarati theatre, is indeed one of the most talented and loved actor that we have in the film industry. In his two-decades-old career, he has been appreciated for his amazing performances such as Rang De Basanti, Golmaal, 3 Idiots among others. the actor time and again has proven his versatility throught his acting ability!

In an exclusive interview with Afternoon Voice Sharman talks about his recently released film “Fauji Calling”, the best part about his journey, a part of an actor he doesn’t enjoy, and many more. Read on…

Words: Hema Singh

The trailer of the film looks amazing and intriguing at the same time, could you tell us more about “Fauji Calling”?

There are many films that are being made on soldiers and their bravery but people have not seen a film that shows the bond between a soldier and his family. What they go through when a soldier killed during a war and how does the family deal with the grief. “Fauji Calling” is a film about love hope and heartbreak. It shows the struggle of the martyrs’ families on how to cope up with tragedy in their lives.

The trailer of the film is being launched on the eve of Republic Day by the honorable Defence Minister and hopes that the film reaches out to every Indian, how does it feel?

I feel very much honored that our Defence Minister Rajnath Singh had launched the trailer of the film. I and the entire team of “Fauji Calling” will always be grateful for him, his gesture, his time for the film, and we appreciate and respect his efforts for the same.

Mugdha Godse is playing the lead role opposite you in “Fauji Calling”, how was it working with her, any anecdotes?

Mugdha is playing the role of my wife in this film, which is a very specific character. It was wonderful working with her during the entire shoot of the film. We bond really well in the little time that we had while filming the movie. You can always see her smiling and she got very positive energy which was really helpful throughout the film. It was a pleasure working with her.

What made you pick up this movie?

The story of the film. It’s a very sensitive, love and heartbreak tale which not told very often. And I feel that is the only reason that made to pick this movie.

While selecting a movie, what is more, important to you, script or star cast?

I always go first for the script and then for the star cast. So, yeah.. script plays an important role for me.

Which is the part of an actor you don’t enjoy?

The promotion of film (laugh). I know promotion plays an important role before the release of the film. But I really don’t enjoy the whole promotion part at all.

Amongst all the characters you have played on screen which in particular do you relate to the?

3 idiots for sure! The film is so dear to me. And there’s a one dialogue – “Aap apni naukari apne paas rakh lijiye main apna attitude apne pass rakh leta hu.” (You keep your job with you and I’ll keep my attitude with me). There was nothing negative about the dialogue. It was just meant in a way- “I want to do things what my heart tells me to do”. So… yes in many ways this film (3 idiots) is very special for me (smile).

According to you what is the best part of your journey in this film industry?

God has been very kind, I am really blessed and grateful for whatever I had done and whatever I am doing right now related to my profession. I chose a career that I always wanted to do and found way over there. I got a lot appreciation and love for the job that I do so, this best and important part of filmy jounrey.

Do you have any dream project, if yes then what is it?

No dream project at all, just the blessing of God is quite enough for me. Whenever he (God) decides to give a dream project to me, I just hope that I’ll get a sense of recognition and immediately latch on to it.

If human urge to rape cannot be controlled, spare animal

animal abuse india

A female dog was brutally raped inside the posh Galleria shopping mall of Mumbai. The news is very much shocking but more than that news I was worried about the mentality of a man, what are these men up to? Leave alone women and children, it seems even the animals are not safe from sexual predators. These days, there are many such humanity shaming incidences are taking place in India. Last year a man was caught ‘raping’ a 9-month-old calf in Avanti Nagar area of Hyderguda in Hyderabad. The accused was caught red-handed while he was indulging in the criminal act.

The eyewitness immediately contacted police. The abuse of animals has been going on for years. Similarly in May 2020, a man was caught on CCTV camera raping cows at a shelter in Ayodhya. Later, the incident prompted the shelter volunteers to keep a close watch on the man. The accused then returned to the shelter and attempted to sexually assault the animals again. But he was caught by the volunteers who were already waiting for him. There was news that hit the headlines, a 40-year-old man who sodomised a female stray dog in Maharashtra’s Thane district. From being handled viciously by circus crews to being subjugated for resources, animals in India have been subjected to suffering for years. It must be noted that laws laid down in the Constitution of India have not been able to deter sadists from torturing animals. Since seven months of lockdown, many animals have been subjected to rape and molestation. Several instances of animal cruelty have been reported to the police. These instances hold testimony to the lack of apathy and humanity that is slowly intense humans.

In September, a man threw a stray dog into the Upper Lake of Madhya Pradesh while another person filmed the incident. The man could be seen giggling while looking at the camera after he threw the canine into the water body. On August 19, another incident of animal brutality came to light from Kerala. In Malappuram, 5 men allegedly hunted a pregnant buffalo and killed it. Buffalo meat was also recovered from the house of one of the accused. On July 22, a man was seen burning alive a kitten. This incident was from Hyderabad. In the video of the incident, the man could be seen setting the kitten on fire with a lighter as it continued to cry in pain. On July 8, a man was arrested for allegedly raping a cow at a dairy in Sundar Nagar, Madhya Pradesh. The obscene act performed by the man was recorded on the CCTV camera installed at the facility and the accused was arrested.

These instances and several others prove that there is a failing sense of humanity in the country and the same is leading to a swift rise in crimes against animals. Next time you are horrified about somebody’s appalling behavior, think twice before saying: “He/she behaved worse than an animal.” Because “worse than an animal” has become the behavioral norm for humans — at least, some humans. Lately, the number of cases of animals being raped is horrifying, even to those souls that are fairly desensitized now to animals being beaten up and physically harmed for brutal sport. One of the two cases of animals being raped in Delhi-NCR registered last year reportedly has shown a suspect from Ghaziabad — where a bitch was recovered dead from a road after being allegedly tied to a moving bike and dragged along the road. People for Animals (PFA) India — has noted that it was an attempt to rape the dog, and has alleged that there were bruises near the vaginal area of the bitch. For those who have been living under a rock and think this was an isolated incident, here are some episodes that have left us sick, disgusted — and ashamed to be called humans. These are reported cases, think about all those unreported cases. Who would speak for those animals?

On July 29, 2018, a pregnant goat was reportedly gang-raped by eight men in Haryana. The goat that went missing was later found dead by the owner. It was allegedly stolen, thrashed and raped by the accused. It succumbed to the trauma and died. Reportedly, one of the accused met the owner of the goat and admitted that he had raped her and even said that he had a nice time.

In August 2017, a 34-year-old man was accused of raping a female puppy to death in Delhi. The puppy later bled to death. Not only did the accused — Naresh Kumar — boast about the incident to an animal lover, he also led him to the carcass. A post-mortem report confirmed rape and death due to excessive bleeding from private parts as well as shock. The police reportedly refused to register a case initially. When the locals mounted pressure, a case was registered against maiming and killing the puppy — not against bestiality which comes under section 377 of the IPC.

In January 2018, a man who worked as a labourer at a cowshed in Vadodara raped three cows. Later in the morning, the owner found that the legs of three cows were tied with rope and one was lying dead. Of course, the cows garnered more sympathy from the locals than cases of the dogs, or perhaps even the goat did. Locals claimed that their religious sentiments were hurt, and predictably, a case was registered against the accused under Section 295A of the Indian Penal Code that addresses acts intended to outrage religious feelings — a far more arduous section under the penal code than the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act.

While these cases of utmost brutality are on the rise, there is an acute dearth of laws to protect animals from cases of sexual abuse — giving the depraved and psychopaths the conviction to get away from the law. Right from stage one; there is apathy in filing FIRs. The animals, after all, cannot understand the court’s orders and speak up for their rights. Even if the case is registered, the question arises of what section of the Indian Penal Code should it be registered under? While the Prevention Of Cruelty To Animals Act, 1960 (PCA) deals with the cognizance of a host of possibilities of treating animals cruelly, including maiming, injuring, killing, practising phooka (the forceful blowing of air into a cow’s vagina or anus to induce it to produce more milk), experiments on animals, restricting exhibition and training of performing animals, human perversion seems to be rising beyond its present purview.

The maximum punishment under the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act of 1960 is a fine of Rs 50 rupees or imprisonment of up to three months or both. But what about Rape, do you think, it’s ok because the victim is still an animal and the accused is Man? Bestiality (sexual intercourse between a person and an animal) is a crime under section 377 of the IPC. The apex court had upheld that the law will stand on the statute book to deal with unnatural sexual offenses against animals such as bestiality. But most people — including the police — are not aware of this. Furthermore, the section does not address the extreme cruelty meted out against the animals, but only criminalizes the penetrative sexual intercourse with an animal. Activists have been urging the government to amend the PCA and include bestiality as a cognizable offense in the light of the latest depravity. If the human urge to rape cannot be controlled, it is time we consider tying humans up, rather than animals.

Dog Rapes: The serious offense is on rise in Mumbai

A 68-year-old man Ahmed Shahi has been arrested for raping a community Dog. He was produced before a court for custody and that the police took note of a video of the act.

API Tushar Gogawale of DN Nagar police station said, “We immediately arrested him as soon as we got a call and investigated the matter”.

Bombay Animal Rights NGOs Vijay Mohanani received a call from a person who said he resided in Andheri West at Juhu Galli and informed Mohanani that a person who lives in his vicinity was sexually abusing dogs in the neighborhood. He sent Mohanani a video in which the man was seen raping a female dog. The video was shot by him in December last year.

Shahi was warned not to repeat the act but got caught several times doing the same. He was making Dogs his sexual victims. The man who was keeping a constant watch on Shahi finally shot a video and kept thinking that he would be deterred by the video and would not repeat the crime.

Several, Bitches (female Dogs) left bleeding, the onlookers suspect that the Ahmed Shahi feeding those dogs something that they don’t resist to such atrocities. After receiving the video, Mohanani approached the police station.
Ahmed Shahi is a vegetable vendor and from a well-to-do background. He resides in Juhu Galli area of Andheri West.

His family members said this is a personal vendetta; Shahi cannot commit such an act. The Dog is fed by him and always plays in his lap. Shahi is a local feeder to whom people have donated dog and cat food. He is an animal lover and very sensitive towards them, asserted his family.

But Mohanani said that daytime he feeds them and night time he uses them for his sexual urges. Since the strays had a relation of trust and loyalty with him, she would not attack him. On 23 October last year, a community dog called Noorie was raped in a Powai mall with a 11-inch wooden stick inserted in her private parts and had been in a critical condition with serious injuries.

The accused had raped her several times and said he inserted the rod to kill his child which he thought she was pregnant with. A similar incident was reported in October last year, a man was caught in Nerul railway station’s CCTV camera raping a dog. Arrests have taken place in both cases.

API Sachin Vaze: Opposition creates unrest asking for suspension

sachin vaze, vaze, hiren mansukh, mansukh, mumbai police, police, anil deshmukhAssistant Police Inspector Sachin Vaze who is in the news in the Hiren Mansukh death case, has been transferred out from Crime Branch, said Home Minister Anil Deshmukh on Wednesday.

Bhaskar Khursange said, “Government has already taken action by removing him from the crime branch; we should have patience before believing the statements of opposition”.

Advocate Abbas Kazmi said, “Something very deep and suspicious had happened in this entire story of Sachin Vaze in Mansukh Hiran’s death case. Vaze has a tainted background and he is known to use 3rd-degree measures and torturing people in his custody. He has 63 kills to his credit, including a software engineer. He was found guilty to kill the Software engineer in his custody. This cop is used by the state government for their political motives. We should not forget his joining Shiv Sena, he is the one who went to arrest Arnab Goswami from nowhere, and he is the one who knows Mansukh Hiran and all about the parked vehicle in front of Ambani’s gate. This all seems to be some big scheming”.

Maharashtra Home Minister Anil Deshmukh told Afternoon Voice, “I have ordered for a fair investigation in this entire matter. Sachin Vaze has already been removed from his current posting in the crime branch till the inquiry is not completed.” When asked why Vaze’s name surfaces, again and again, be it Arnab’s arrest or Mansukh Hiran’s death, he replied stating “Vaze is a crime branch officer, he has investigated many cases. His name in both the matters is just coincidence”.

While making the statement in the Maharashtra Legislative Council, Deshmukh said the state government will conduct an impartial probe into the death of Mansukh Hiran. Mansukh Hiran was in possession of the SUV which was found with explosives outside industrialist Mukesh Ambani’s house in south Mumbai on February 25.

Police said the vehicle was stolen from Mansukh Hiran’s possession on February 18. The mystery deepened after his body was found in a creek last Friday in Thane. Meanwhile, Devendra Fadnavis has demanded action against API Vaze, stating the letter of Mansukh Hiran’s wife to the government of Maharashtra.

However, the Leader of the Opposition in the Council Pravin Darekar, and other opposition members expressed disappointment over the government’s decision.

“Vaze is in some way involved in the death of Mansukh Hiran. He should face legal action and should be suspended at once,” Darekar said.

When spoken to Sachin Vaze, he refrained from speaking to the afternoon voice but said the truth shall prevail soon; I am waiting for the investigation to be completed in this regard.

RTI activist Anil Galgali said, “The role of Sachin Vaze is dubious. Police protection was required when Mansukh Hiren’s life was in danger. When a police officer urges the plaintiff to lodge a written complaint, it should have been understood that the law and order are at hazard. Sachin Vaze has forced Hiren to lodge a written complaint in this regard and indirectly violated the service regulations and the government is expected to take immediate action.”

Retired police officer Gavli said, “Sachin is capable of doing any nasty thing. He was suspended for a total of around 16 yrs and during the suspension period; he was even accused of being involved in extortion cases and even had joined the Shiv Sena. He was reinstated back by Parambir Singh (Possibly on the instructions of Shiv Sena) in June 2020 and given the charge of handling the Arnab Case so that Arnab is fixed and the same 3rd-degree measures are applied on Arnab but, sadly the police did not get the custody”.

“Mansukh Hiren’s death is unfortunate and it is clear that in high profile cases, people who have nothing to do with the crime are often entangled and face acute harassment by the police. There is a pressing need for Police Reform so that there are checks and balances on the Police, and we can ensure that upright citizens do not face this kind of harassment. We appeal to our Chief Minister to give justice to Mansukh Hiren with a fair probe,” said Preeti Sharma Menon, AAP leader from Mumbai.

At the same time, it should not be forgotten that our Mumbai Police Force is wholly capable of conducting inquiries against terror and we stand strongly in solidarity with them.

Menon further continued, “This is the same police force whose personnel didn’t falter in their line of duty, during the 26/11 attacks. Many were martyred and so many more were injured but they ensured the arrest of Kasab and a strident investigation that ensured he was hanged. It is the same force that investigated the Malegaon terror case and arrested terror accused Sadhvi Pragya Thakur. Any attempt to demoralize this force is condemnable.”

“We have to also note that the BJP has often cried wolf to get sympathy and we cannot put it past them to create a ploy to gain sympathy for themselves and their actual leader, Mukesh Ambani. It is rather strange for terrorists to leave a message in the manner described. We think that something is amiss here, and we demand that, as the NIA performs its investigation on the terror angle, the Maharashtra Government undertakes an independent investigation regarding any political motives at play in this case,” added Menon.

Sachin Vaze – A devil of the first order

As a citizen, I am the last person who can trust Sachin Vaze like cops. They are immoral police officers who have been brutalizing people in the name of crime investigations and always get away with slaughter; in this case, there will be no difference. I was disturbed when Devendra Fadnavis read parts of Mansukh Hiren’s wife Vimla’s statement in the state assembly. Vimla Hiren, the wife of the Mansukh Hiren, who owned the SUV and whose body was found in the Kalwa creek, has alleged in her statement before ATS that Vaze had been using the car, from November 2020 till February 5.

She further stated in her letter that Vaze had told her husband to get arrested in the case and assured him that he will be bailed out in a few days. The strange death of Mansukh Hiren, a car parts dealer linked to an SUV filled with explosives found near industrialist Mukesh Ambani’s Mumbai home two weeks ago.

The State government removed Vaze from the Mumbai crime branch, but they did not detail him, by not taking any strict action and gave him the chance to destroy the evidence. And just because he (Vaze) entered a certain political party, he is being saved.

The SUV was found abandoned around 1.4 km from Antilia, Mukesh Ambani’s 27-story home in south Mumbai, after midnight last Wednesday. A bomb disposal squad found 20 gelatin sticks – material used in explosives – hours later, besides a handwritten letter addressed to the Reliance chairman and Nita Ambani. A day later, the police learned that the SUV was stolen and said Mansukh lived in Vikhroli, another part of the city. The police had recorded his statement.

Mansukh had alleged that he was being harassed by police officials and journalists. In his letter to Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray, the state’s Home Minister, and the Mumbai police chief, the man had demanded legal action and police protection. In his letter written on March 2, he explained how the car was stolen and said that the police were harassing him. Instead of giving him protection, he was asked to confess his crime.

A man in a mask and a hoodie was seen in security footage parking the car, but he was not identified. The police also saw CCTV footage of the car moving through the city, followed by an Innova car that is also being investigated. The gelatin was not a military-grade but of the commercial kind that is usually used in construction, digging, or mining. But the question is that, who was trying to threaten Ambanis and why? What was the intent behind this act?

Hiren’s wife gave a statement that her husband may have been murdered by assistant police inspector Sachin Vaze. Hiren’s wife has also claimed in her statement to police that her husband knew Vaze and the SUV was with the police officer from November 2020 to February 5, 2021. She had also said her husband was with Vaze on February 27, 28, and March 2. The complaint letter (of Hiren) addressed to the Chief Minister, Deputy Chief Minister, and police commissioners of Mumbai and Thane which surfaced in public after his death was written on the instructions of Vaze.

Hiren’s wife also claimed in her statement that her husband told her that Vaze had asked him to get himself arrested and he would ensure his bail in a few days. For the uninitiated, Hiren was later found dead in Retibunder Creek. No one knows who killed him and why.

Sachin Vaze is famous for killings in the name of encounter, he tops the dirty harry list of cops. On March 3, 2004, Vaze was suspended along with 14 other policemen on murder charges on the custodial death of Khwaja Yunus, a suspect in the December 2, 2002, Ghatkopar bomb blast case. In 2008, a 1,000-page charge sheet was filed which named Vaze and others. In 2008, Vaze joined the Shiv Sena in presence of late party Chief Balasaheb Thackeray. Even though he appeared on some news channels as the party spokesperson, he wasn’t very active in politics. But he remained their silent worker. On June 6, 2020, when Shiv Sena came to power the Maharashtra government revoked Vaze’s suspension and he was reinstated to Mumbai Police during the COVID-19 pandemic. However, Khawaja Yunus’s mother Asiya Begum filed contempt pleas in the Bombay High Court against Mumbai Police Commissioner Param Bir Singh and Additional Director General of Police Amitabh Gupta after Vaze’s reinstatement.

He is currently handling high-profile cases including the TRP rigging scam, the Anvay Naik suicide case, the sports car scam involving Dilip Chhabria, and the Bollywood-TV-entertainment industry’s casting couch racket. Vaze is in some way or the other involved in the death of Mansukh Hiran. It’s high time that the people should know why all this happened and who would be benefiting from this entire episode.

Will Kamal Haasan become the CM of Tamil Nadu one day?

Kamal Haasan Election Campaign

Apart from being a very good actor, a decent writer-director, a concerned human being, a knowledgeable man, Kamal Haasan is also is an activist. Though he has never held an administrative position so far, he can compensate for it with zeal and he is a keen learner. His intent is sincere and his will is to do good for the people of Tamil Nadu.

I am sure that he has a better vision for Tamil Nadu than many seasoned politicians and definitely much better than Thalaivars. Kamal has always projected himself as a one-man army, working with head-strong individuals, party men, cabinet ministers, and the likes would be definitely a challenge for him.

Kamal Haasan’s Makkal Needhi Maiam (MNM) has signed a memorandum of understanding with actor Sarathkumar’s All India Samathuva Makkal Katchi (AISMK) and SRM group founder TR Pachamuthu’s Indhiya Jananayaga Katchi (IJK).

Hassan’s party, in its debut assembly polls, will be contesting from 154 seats. Of the remaining 80 constituencies, both AISMK and IJK will be contesting on 40 seats each.

The statement issued by MNM reads that the parties have come together to bring about an overall change in Tamil Nadu, but elections will decide the fate of an individual and above all its survival. With the common agenda of restoring the pride and glory of Tamil Nadu, they have decided to embark on a long-lasting journey together.

Their press statement says “The primary goal of this platform is to contest the upcoming assembly elections with a promise for change and emerge victorious to form the government. AISMK and IJK leaders met Haasan in February and hoped that MNM would enter into a poll-pact with them.

During his party’s sixth general council meet, Sarathkumar openly endorsed Haasan as their chief ministerial candidate. Though the allies issued statements confirming that they have struck an alliance with MNM, Haasan kept his cards close to his chest. Even until Sunday, he did not confirm his alliance partners. To become a CM candidate, he has to represent a party that hasn’t won. That rules out DMK, ADMK, and PMK.

Congress and BJP don’t have strong CM candidates, but both the parties are not that strong enough in Tamil Nadu. Even though Kamal’s presence might improve their fortunes, I don’t think Kamal has enough power to pull them through to the finish line. And more importantly, I don’t think Kamal will pick either of the parties to go in the alliance. Above all, any party with Tamil nationalist ideologies will not want him. A new party would be an option. However, he might need a strong ally, maybe the DMK. But if the alliance wins, will he get to be a CM? That is a big doubt.

To become CM, one needs to be the head of the largest party in the Assembly, unless and until his party proves themselves like the Aam Aadmi Party in Delhi. AAP did not go in alliance with any political party yet they changed the fate of the Delhi elections.

Till now Kamal has been publishing tweets about select incidents. He needs to expand this to get more acceptance. Right now, the view is that he is someone with no political responsibility and uses his popularity to pass his opinions. While there is nothing wrong with it, this approach may not lead to any political dividend. People should feel that he has good ideas about governance and will do better for TN.

No doubt that Hassan and his party will pull crowds and can influence people. He can be suitably rewarded by DMK too, if they end up on the winning side, maybe he can contest in some assembly seat or get some party position.

At this juncture politics of Tamil Nadu is unpredictable, people are in very much confusion and choices are many. The votes are going to get divided.

No one can say for sure if a particular person will become CM or not. How many of us knew the name “Edappadi Pazhanisamy” till he became CM. On the other hand, M.K. Stalin has been on the “Waitlist” for several elections but he could not reach to power.

The political climate in Tamil Nadu may not be sure for Kamal. The BPL people in Tamil Nadu feel happy with every election. Election year is a bonus year for them. Both the Dravidian parties have sensed the mood of the people. They engage people in a different way, and they have many committed voters too. Kamal’s resource factor and mind-set too are different from these two parties. Let Kamal ascertain the mood of the people, by organizing public meetings. Holding office is different from public interaction. He should confirm that he too can take the people with him. So far, he has not tested the people’s support for him. Media hype is not people’s support. Many of the people are influenced by caste and religion, and most of the voting patterns were also such. Support for Kamal may not come from these sectors.

Kamal Haasan – Darkhorse of Tamil Nadu politics; his party MKM to contest on 154 seats

kamal haasan, hassan, kamal hassan, tamil nadu, mkm, touch, rajnikanth, stalin, mk stalinSince Actor Rajinikanth, decided to opt-out of politics, citing health concerns. Kamal Haasan has bright chances of winning a good number of seats. His party to fight in 154 seats in Tamil Nadu, rest for 2 allies. Makkal Needhi Maiam (MKM) announced contesting 154 out of 234 assembly seats in Tamil Nadu assembly elections. The party left the remaining 80 seats for its two alliance partners – All India Samathuva Makkal Katchi and Indhiya Jananayaga Katchi – that will contest on 40 seats each.

A document released by the Makkal Needhi Maiam party reads, “The parties have committed to the common goal of transforming Tamil Nadu by fulfilling the long-pending aspirations of the people. With the common agenda of restoring the pride and glory of Tamil Nadu, they have decided to embark on a long-lasting journey together.”

J Vyankatesha, political banner supplier for Chennai to Afternoon Voice, “Kamal has his personal baggage with him that might work against him. His not-so-appealing-to-all personal life, his faith or lack of one, his peculiar nature, his closeness to DMK, like factors, may hamper his chances to thorn but he will reasonably pull the seats. Some of these beleaguered Sivaji Ganesan when he put himself into electoral politics. While I don’t see Kamal losing as Sivaji Ganesan did, I fear he might not have the power to win enough to get to the throne. Dynamics of the election will matter a lot.”

The MNM had secured around 4 percent votes in the 2019 Lok Sabha election, with its share going as high as 10 percent in the urban pockets. Dr. R Mahendran, MNM vice-president and its candidate from Coimbatore, had clocked 1.45 lakh votes or 11.6 percent of the total vote share of the constituency.

The party has adopted a unique ticket distribution system where it has launched an online system for people to apply as candidates followed by the interviews of the shortlisted ones to be finally fielded in the election. The MNM is taking up on issues like corruption, jobs, developing villages, and people-friendly e-governance as key issues. It has promised salaries to homemakers and free computers with internet at all homes as a public resource to help people access government schemes easily.

Ever since OPS’s magnificent acting performance at the Marina after Jayalalitha passed, Kamal Haasan has actively voiced his opinion of the pathetic state of affairs in Tamil Nadu politics. He took it up a notch after Sasikala’s arrest and the EPS-OPS debacle ensued, at times delivering killer blows. He has been active on social media and was quite fortunate (or calculative) the Big boss came around now.

Meta Swaminathan, political posters designer in Chennai said, “Politics is not conducting a Bus that one bell rings and you get down or get in. I was happy when Rajnikanth realized this, he would have abandoned the bus if he has to face challenges. Whereas Kamal Hassan has one advantage, he has a strong voice and social media presence for his political stand. He might sail through the challenges but becoming CM is not possible in the first inning.”

The Batla House encounter not only hit the headlines but also got political mileage to the Movie screen. This much-hyped encounter took place after a seven-member Delhi Police team led by Inspector Mohan Chand Sharma in the Special Cell of Delhi police, stumbled upon IM commander Atif Amin and his comrades in their rented address at L-18, Batla House in the morning of 19 September 2008.

The team had received information that a suspected person wanted in connection with the serial bomb blasts in Delhi was hiding in a flat in the Batla House area of Jamia Nagar. Police laid a trap and somehow reached four-storied and stormed the flat led by a heavy exchange of fire. Sharma received the first burst of fire from the terrorists holed up inside. After the ensuing exchange of fire two suspected terrorists, Atif Amin and Mohammad Sajid were killed, two other suspects Mohammad Saif and Zeeshan were arrested, while one escaped. Later on its learned that Mohammad Sajid was not killed and he surfaced in Syria as an ISIS recruiter.

This encounter led to the arrest of a number of local people, leading to widespread allegations and protests by political parties, civil society groups, and activists, especially teachers and students of the Jamia Millia Islamia University.

Numerous political organizations like Rashtriya Ulama Council brought a full train of protestors from Azamgarh to Jantar Mantar, Delhi demanding an independent Judicial Enquiry whereas the Samajwadi Party and Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) demanded a judicial inquiry into the encounter, in the Parliament.

Afterward, on the Delhi High Court’s directive on 21 May 2009, the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) in its 22 July report cleared the police of any violations of rights. Public speculation and debate however continued.

The encounter took place a week after five serial blasts on 13 September 2008 that hit Delhi in which at least 30 people were killed and over 100 injured. The killing of Atif Amin, who was the chief bomber of the Indian Mujahideen, had dealt a severe blow to the group, which earlier was blamed for terror attacks between 2007 and 2009, in Delhi, Ahmedabad, Jaipur, Surat and Faizabad, according to investigating agencies.

On the second anniversary of the encounter, a shooting took place at the gate of historic Jama Masjid, Delhi, in which two foreign tourists were injured, apart from that a car bomb with a failed timer was also found in the surrounding area. The police had filed the charge sheet against Shahzad, Ariz Khan Atif Ameen, and Mohammed Sajid on 28 April 2010, accusing them of killing Inspector Sharma.

On 15 February 2011, Additional Sessions Judge Ajay Kumar Kuhar framed charges against accused Shahzad Ahmed alias Pappu for the offences of murder (Section 302), attempt to murder (Section 307), section 333 (causing hurt to public servant), 353 (assault to deter a public servant from discharge of his duty), 186 (obstructing public servant in discharge of his public functions) and 201 (disappearance of evidence) of the Indian Penal Code, besides section 27 of the Arms Act for his role in the ‘encounter’.

On 25 Jul 2013, the Saket sessions court in its judgment convicted one of the suspects, Shahzad Ahmad, for the murder of police inspector Mohan Chand Sharma and attempted murder of Head Constables Balwant Singh and Rajbir Singh. After the verdict, Shahzad’s defense counsel Satish Tamta accused that the court had proposed its own theory while arriving at the conclusion that Shahzad had escaped after shooting at police officers.

Finally, the court came to the conclusion after 70 witnesses, including six eyewitnesses of the raiding team of the Delhi police special cell. On 28 August 2013, Yasin Bhatkal, the Chief of Indian Mujahideen was arrested from India-Nepal Border. Yasin had allegedly fled the Batla House, minutes before the encounter took place. After the incident accusations were raised against the Police by various other politicians, media, and civil society outfits for carrying out an encounter.

Upon the plea filed by “Act Now for Harmony and Democracy”, the Delhi High Court on 21 May 2009 asked the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) to enquire into the police version of the encounter and submit its report incomplete within two months. Subsequently, on 22 July, NHRC after its investigations, in a 30-page report submitted its report which gave a clean chit to Delhi Police in the case.

The investigation ruled out the conspiracy theory that it was “inter-departmental enmity” which might have led to the death of Inspector M C Sharma on the basis of post-mortem report that he had a gunshot wound on the “hypochondriac region of the abdomen”, which ruled out an attack from behind.

Sharma was a much-decorated police officer and had won seven gallantry medals including the President of India’s Medal in 2009. He was posthumously awarded India’s highest peacetime military decoration, the Ashoka Chakra on 26 January 2009. Shahzad’s sister said that her brother was falsely implicated, and vowed to fight for justice by appealing to the Supreme Court.

Finally, the court made the decision in favour of the Delhi police, and all the accused got convicted one by one.
