How to celebrate Ganeshotsav during the crisis of coronavirus?

Ganesh Pooja, Ganpati Pooja, Ganesh Chaturthi, Ganpati, Lord Ganesha1. The alternative mentioned in Hindu Dharmashastra in connection with the adverse situation is ‘Apaddharma’! : ‘Currently, the coronavirus pandemic has caused many restrictions on human movements around the world. In India too, there is a lockdown in various States. Although the spread of corona is low in some places, there are many restrictions on people leaving their homes. Due to this, various festivals, ceremonies and vratas (Vowed observances) of Hindus have been restricted and cannot be performed collectively as usual. Against the backdrop of disasters like coronavirus, Hindu Dharma has suggested some options in practising code of conduct as per Dharma. This is called ‘Apaddharma’ (Code of conduct that should be followed during a calamity). ‘Apaddharma’ means ‘आपदि कर्तव्यो धर्मः ।’ (‘Aapdi Kartavyo Dharma’) meaning, ‘Acts that are recognised by Dharmashastra (A genre of Sanskrut Holy texts and refers to the shāstra or the spiritual science pertaining to Hindu Dharma) in times of calamity.’

Due to the fact that the vrat of Shri Ganesh Chaturthi and the celebration of Ganeshotsav are falling during this period, there are restrictions over the celebration of this festival collectively. From this point of view, in the present article, suggestions are given over ‘How can Ganeshotsav can be celebrated as a religious practice in present circumstances?’. The important aspect here is, ‘At what level has Hindu Dharma gone to think of human beings?’ is learned from this. This underscores the uniqueness of Hindu Dharma.

2. How to perform the vrat of Ganesh Chaturthi?: Ganeshotsav is a major festival of Hindus. On Shri Ganesh Chaturthi, as well as on the days of Shri Ganeshotsav, Ganesha Principle is active on the earth 1000 times more than usual. Currently, the prevalence of coronavirus is increasing day by day. As a result, there are restrictions on leaving the house in some places. In this connection, the vrat of Parthiv Siddhivinayaka can be performed in the following simple manner without organising shows, lighting, etc. by linking Apaddharma and Dharmashastra.

Every year, Idols made of pipeclay, plaster of Paris, etc. are worshipped. This year, in areas where the instances of coronavirus are low, that is, where the lockdown is not imposed, Ganesha Idols should be brought and worshipped as usual. (‘Why should there be a Ganesha Idol of pipeclay according to Scriptures?’, is discussed in the last aspect of the article.)

If it is not possible to leave the house for any reason, for example, if the surrounding area or building has been declared as a ‘containment area’ due to coronavirus infection, the people there can perform Shodashopachar worship of the Idol of Ganesha or image of Ganesha available in their house to obtain benefit from the Ganesha Principle. While performing this worship, it is important to keep in mind that one should not perform the ritual of ‘Pranapratishtha’ during the worship.

3. How to perform vrat of Jyestha Gauri? : In some houses, Jyeshtha Gauri is worshipped on the day of Bhadrapada Shukla Paksha 8. In some houses, it is worshipped in the form of stones, while in others it is worshipped by wearing them straight masks. Because of the coronavirus crisis, those who are unable to worship them in the form of stones or masks, as they do every year, may worship an Idol or a picture of a Goddess available in their home.

Special instruction: Only a few people in the house should move out of the house for bringing Ganesha idol and immersing it. While immersing the idol, immerse it in a pond or well near your house. It is the bounden duty of all of us to strictly follow the guidelines given by the Government to adhere due to coronavirus as there is a risk of crowd gathering during this period. – Mr Damodar Vaze, Director, Sanatan Purohit Pathshala, Sanatan Ashram, Ramnathi, Goa.

4. A reference from Dharmashastra on ‘Why should Ganesha Idol be of pipeclay? : According to Dharmashastra, worshipping the Idol of pipeclay has immense benefits at a spiritual level’.

In ‘Dharmasindhu’, the following rule is given about ‘How should be an Idol of Shri Ganesha on Ganesh Chaturthi?

तत्र मृन्मयादिमूर्तौ प्राणप्रतिष्ठापूर्वकं विनायकं षोडशोपचारैः सम्पूज्य…। – Dharmasindhu, paragraph 2

Meaning: On this day (on Bhadrapad Shukla Paksha 4) the Idol of Shri Ganesha should be made of clay, etc. and is worshipped in Shodashopachar manner after performing its consecration.

According to another reference, in the Scripture called ‘Smrutikaustubha’, there is a reference that Shrikrishna asked Dharmaraja to perform vrat of Siddhivinayak. It gives a detailed description of what an Idol should look like.

स्वशक्त्यागणनाथस्य स्वर्णरौप्यमयाकृतिम्।
अथवामृन्मयी कार्या वित्तशाठ्यंं नकारयेत् ॥ – Smrutikaustubha

Meaning: For this (Siddhivinayaka’s) worship, idols of gold, silver or clay should be made as per one’s own might. There should be no stinginess in this.

Since it clearly states that Idols should be made of gold, silver, or clay, it is inappropriate from the viewpoint of Dharmashastra to make Idols from other material.’

Social media and WhatsApp groups arranging jazzy gatherings

Bungalow, Rent, Mumbai, Maharashtra, Karjat, Lonavala, Rent, Farm HouseOutskirts of Mumbai such as Wada, Lonavala, and Karjat are hubs of private bungalows and resorts. After the long lockdown now, these bungalows are seeing overflow in bookings. When we spoke to an arranger Ganesh Appa from Karjat he told us “The booking is taken by the landlord, we are here to maintain the Bungalow and arrange food, liquor, and food”. Since the last three months, many families have come and stayed here, we don’t know how they managed to travel. But these days it’s the young crowd that comes for the party, mostly on short stay”. We have bookings back to back”.

Despite restrictions on assembly, there are many WhatsApp groups and social media private pages arranging such parties, and word of mouth the circulation goes around. Such party events are on the rise.

When we asked Tanya (18-year-old College student) who received an invite from WhatsApp, did they find such parties safe? She said, “No one is bothered about safety, what we all needed was some change”. Four months is a very long period to be caged and remain without friends”. How long can one chat or hangout? My friend received invite on WhatsApp group, he told us and we all joined the group on the invite”

Traveling was not difficult?

“There was no restriction on traveling as such and we did not travel in groups. We all went in our own cars and our location does not fall under tourist place, it was a private bungalow, maybe that is the reason no one stopped us”.

How many people were in the Party?

Almost 15 to 20, our group was 8 people.

Party as in?

Chatting, playing indoor games, booze, and fag, we just wanted to be together for some time.

One of the Booking agents told Afternoon Voice “there are many people in Mumbai who make extra income renting out their properties in outskirts, for four months even their income from these properties have come to the scratch. Now they are giving booking, as lockdown is relaxed”. Some owners are taking every safety line. Participants are asked to verify his/her health conditions by providing a doctor’s certificate, mentioning no fever infection.”

Recently the Members of posh Mahalaxmi high-rise in the dock after people found smoking, gambling, and playing loud music. The Agripada police have booked 12 people for violating lockdown guidelines and organising a party at the refuge area of a high-rise in Mahalaxmi after a resident filed a complaint with them. An FIR has been registered in the matter. The building secretary Sandeep Gadodia, chairman Tinu Advani and others were members of this committee. The committee had formed guidelines that more than two people would not be allowed to assemble at one place within the society premises. Following this, she approached the Agripada police. On being contacted, society secretary Sandeep Gadodia said, “We will speak to the complainant. I am not aware of the FIR, as nobody contacted me from the police station.”

Terrorist organizations got in Competition

ISIS, al-Qaeda, ISIS Terrorist, Terrorist Organisation, Both the al-Qaeda and the IS have claimed a series of killings in Bangladesh over the past year, attacking liberals and foreigners. On Friday, militants stormed a restaurant in Dhaka and killed 20 people, most of them foreigners, in an attack claimed by the IS. Bangladesh’s government has long denied the involvement of foreign Islamist groups in the violence, but some security experts said the restaurant attack undermined that position. Both IS and AQIS are trying to outdo each other in the region and claim the mantle of global jihad. A regional branch of the al-Qaeda urged Muslims in India to revolt and carry out lone-wolf attacks, a US monitoring site reported, and days after the rival jihadi movement Islamic State (IS) claimed responsibility for Bangladesh’s worst militant attack. The call by al-Qaeda in the Indian Subcontinent (AQIS) follows warnings by security officials and experts that the two groups are trying to outdo each other in the region and claim the mantle of global jihad. An online audio message purportedly from Asim Umar, head of AQIS, said Indian Muslims must follow the example of youths in Europe and strike against Indian police and senior officials, holding them responsible for communal violence. In it, AQIS said Muslims were present in every part of India and must use their strength to reclaim power in a country they ruled for centuries. Since its formation in 2014, AQIS has been trying to incite attacks, but India’s Muslims, who number more than 160 million, have been largely unmoved. Only a handful are known to have tried to join the IS if various reports have to be believed.

Now the question remains here why Muslims are falling in the trap of these terrorist organizations, and who is sponsoring them? Some study indicates that one of the factors could be chauvinism or the distrust of the non-Muslims. Many Islamic countries actively and systematically promote the hatred of the Jews, America, and the West in general. You must see yourself as the victim and the non-Muslims as the autocrats in order to hate them enough to kill them. A great number of Muslims, perhaps the majority, are at this stage. Not all these Muslims are going to become terrorists, but a great majority of them are convinced that America and particularly the Jews are responsible for everything that is wrong in their lives.

The other factor that makes them susceptible to become terrorists is being hit by a crisis. Personal problems, especially if they are experienced at youth, seem greater than they actually are and tend to make life look meaningless. During these crises people often seek spiritual guidance in their religions and some youngsters, out of desperation, may even commit suicide. Here is where the danger lies. When young Muslims in crisis seek spiritual guidance from their holy book, they expose themselves to the negative influence of the Quran, and the seed of becoming a jihadi aka terrorist is sown in their minds. Life is already meaningless; suicide does not seem like a bad idea. In Islam, you can become a martyr – end your miserable life and gain the rewards of the afterlife too. This is like killing two birds with one stone.

Muslims are led to believe that America and especially the Jews who “run the world by proxy” (as the Malaysian PM, Dr. Mahathir said) are responsible for all their miseries. They see themselves as victims. Once they identify their alleged victimizers, they are ready to take their revenge – a revenge that is glorified by all the Muslims and is encouraged. Here is where the Quran provides them with “guidance” and confirmation. But that is not all. You also need the support and reassurance of others. The whole Islamic ethos encourages becoming a martyr. Therefore, to say that just by reading the Quran, loving Muslims become terrorists is not entirely true. A whole range of conditions must be present for that to happen. The problem is that all those conditions that prepare a Muslim to become a terrorist are also caused by their religious leaders and preachers. These conditions are not cultural, ethnic, political, or economic, they are religious. The hatred of the Jews and non-Muslims has its roots in the Quran. Most of the crises that Muslim youth face, like lack of opportunity and loss of hope are also the result of the failure of Islam in solving the real problems of Muslims and particularly the youth.

One more factor is the lack of self-esteem and the prevalent feeling of unimportance among Muslims, and Islam’s scholastic fiasco in rearing confident, positive, and successful humans. Terrorists are losers who seek their glory in martyrdom. Few brains less conditioned Muslims, fall prey to every trap, be it emotional or religious, and they hold the gun in hand without giving a thought that they are collectively tarnishing their religion and its people at large. Why Muslims fail to deal with such maniacs because the divided Muslims, some Allah fearing & some fearing people in the name of Allah are unable to deal with each other.

SC orders CBI probe into Sushant Singh Rajput’s death case; asks Mumbai Police to handover evidences to CBI

Supreme Court, SC, CBI, Sushant Singh Rajput, Mumbai Police, Police, Bihar, Sushant Singh, SSR

Holding that the FIR registered in Bihar’s Patna over the death of Sushant Singh Rajput was legitimate, the Supreme Court on Wednesday directed the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) to investigate the case. The single-judge bench of Justice Hrishikesh Roy also said that the Bihar Government was competent to recommend transferring the case to the CBI.

The apex court also asked Mumbai Police to hand over all the evidence collected so far in the case to the CBI. The state of Maharashtra refused the option to challenge the order, Justice Roy said. The apex court had, in its last hearing on August 11, reserved its judgment and asked all the parties to file their respective submissions in the case.

Former Additional Solicitor General Maninder Singh, appearing for the Bihar Government, had submitted that Bihar Chief Minister had not interfered in the case and added that the recommendation for a CBI probe was based on the advice of the concerned authorities. Senior lawyer Shyam Divan, appearing for Rhea, had raised questions over the manner in which the Bihar Police registered an FIR in the case and argued that the matter has no connection with the FIR registered in Patna.

Claiming innocence in the case, Rhea had stated that her entire financial transactions are crystal clear and there is nothing incriminating against her and she is not involved in any way with respect to the death of Sushant Singh Rajput. The CBI has registered an FIR against Rhea Chakraborty and others in connection with the actor’s death after the Centre accepted Bihar Government’s recommendation to transfer the probe in the matter from Patna.

An FIR was registered in Patna on a complaint filed by KK Singh, Rajput’s father, under sections related to abetment to suicide. Rajput was found dead at his Mumbai residence on June 14.

Mumbai Mangroves: 111 sq mtr of forestland would be chopped for Metro by MMRDA

Mumbai, Mangroves, Mumbai Metro, Metro 4, Line, Infrastructure, Pollution, Coastal Road, Save Aarey, Aarey

Mumbai Metro Line-2-B is a 23.64 km long elevated corridor that will have 22 stations. The corridor will reduce travel time between the eastern and western suburbs by 40 to 55 minutes. It will result in a 30 to 35℅ consequent reduction in vehicular traffic. The bench took into consideration the State Environment Impact Assessment Authority’s November 2018 clearance for the construction in the mangroves forest and the Union environment ministry’s approval for it in January.

MMRDA moved to the court after the latter in September 2018 held that the permission could not be granted for the destruction of mangroves unless the work is necessary for the public good or is in the public interest. It said about 111 square meters of forestland were permanently required for the construction of the six piers. About 1,860 square meters area around the piers was needed temporarily to enable their construction.

The bench of Justice SJ Kathawalla and Justice Madhav Jamdar said last week while giving the go-ahead. “We are convinced that the Metro Line 2-B project is carried out in public interest,”

MMRDA assured the court it will restore the temporary area to its original condition once the construction is completed, and abide by the Union ministry’s conditions for approving the proposal. MMRD has argued apart from providing eco-friendly transportation, the Metro Rail project is also expected to reduce emission, improve traffic conditions in Mumbai Metropolitan Region, and save precious fuel.

Mumbai has set aside 224 hectares (ha) of mangroves as reserve forests. About 40 ha of these newly-protected areas are along the Mithi river, which is choked by illegal construction. Other forests that have received protection are in Charkop, Vikhroli and Versova, locations that are threatened by encroachers. The latest notification brings the total mangrove forests under protected status to 3,948 ha — almost 40 square km. Areas notified as reserved forest under the Indian Forest Act, 1927, get better protection from destruction and encroachers.

Mumbai Losing its Mangrove

Mumbai, Mangrove, Mangroves, Metro, Mumbai Metro, Metro-4, Local

The land is needed for development but people need trees to breathe. In the name of infrastructure, Mumbai has lost its big chunk of greenery. The Bombay High Court (HC) allowed the Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) to go for cutting 357 mangroves for the construction of Metro piers at Sewri and Bhakti Park station, as part of under-construction Metro Line-4 that connects Wadala in eastern suburbs to Kasarwadavli on Ghodbunder road in adjoining Thane district. The court has allowed MMRDA to cut 357 mangroves primarily after it observed that the development of Metro Line-4 has immense public importance in terms of public transport. The bench has also directed Metro authority to comply with the conditions imposed by authorities while granting permission. The conditions include compensatory afforestation over a hectare of degraded mangrove forest at Gorai, where the MMRDA will need to plant 4,444 mangroves saplings with developing a nursery cost and fully fund it for the duration of ten years. It also directed the MMRDA to construct a temporary road for carrying out the construction work. The orders are given, permissions are granted but there would hardly any follow-ups. Earlier, the court directives had prohibited development work in mangrove forests and a 50-meter buffer zone around mangroves until the court found the importance of the work keeping in mind the benefits it would provide to the people.

This was heartening for tree lovers and activists who have been campaigning against the rampant chopping down of trees and other green areas, as part of a massive infrastructure push currently ongoing in the city and its environs. But this is little consolation, considering much damage is still being caused in the name of development in the rest of the city. In the past four years, the state government has agreed to at least three major and several medium and small size projects which have a direct impact on the state’s ecology. Like the bullet train project, the ambitious Mumbai coastal road and the ongoing Metro 3 project are set to destroy mangroves, ax thousands of trees, and displace several originals habitats, especially from Adivasi communities.

Well! Metro cities are most insensitive towards the sea and its cleanliness. There is a lack of awareness among the public. And no adequate measures are being taken by the Governing bodies to combat this issue. Rapidly declining Wetlands and mangroves is the biggest challenge, with changes in salinity, ever-rising sea temperature and future changes in sea currents may severely affect marine life and its immunity to recover and revamp from extreme climatic events.

Whenever I visit the seaside of Mumbai, my heart cries out looking at the waste and pollution in water. Sea beaches are overloaded with plastic; clothe pieces, cosmetic and chemical industry waste. Earlier, major Industrial wastes used to be dumped into the Sea. Mumbai coastal area always had some of the other challenges. Somehow with imposed laws and vigilant citizens, sea cleaning became the priority and many NGOs tirelessly worked towards the same. Among all of these Mangroves is one of the least noticed yet most important ecosystems.

Wherever there is an intermediate landform, the diversity of species will be very high. Also, most of the species in such landforms would be unique to that ecosystem. In the case of mangroves, it supports a vast range of species from microorganisms to the Tigers like big animals. Mangroves are a special type of ecosystem with loosely packed sediments, constant influence of tides and very high salinity when compared to river waters. Species in this ecosystem have special adaptations to survive the challenging conditions.

These days’ rules prevent any disposal of plastics into the oceans. Marine pollution includes a range of threats including from land-based sources, oil spills, untreated sewage, heavy siltation, nutrient enrichment, invasive species, persistent organic pollutants, heavy metals from mine tailings and other sources, acidification, radioactive substances, marine litter, overfishing and destruction of coastal and marine habitats. In the recent past, Mumbai has witnessed many such incidences of oil spills that have damaged the sea creatures. In spite of having day-to-day challenges, hardly any preventive majors are taken to deal with such issues. Sedimentation has decreased in some areas due to reduced sea flow, as a result of terrestrial overuse for agricultural irrigation, while increasing in other regions as a result of coastal development and deforestation along rivers, watersheds and coastal areas, and clearing of mangroves.

There are thousands of projects and billions of funds poured into cleaning and spreading awareness about maritime pollution. Lots of strain is laid these days on preventing it. Actually, I strongly feel there is a need to create awareness about water and waste management onboard ships. Meanwhile, stringent policy and rules are must, and implementing them should be much more prompt. Most of the countries it is not easy for any ship or company to get away after causing any damage to the Sea environment. Right now, the major threats to the world’s costal lines include extreme climate events, unsound sightseeing practices, poison fishing for decorative fish, overexploitation by fisheries, sedimentation, harvesting, detonate fishing and pollution. Due to the increasing population, the coastal lines and sea pace is occupied by humans for livelihood. Which has resulted in an imbalance of the Coastal Environ system, Such as hampering Mangroves at coastal lines? The heavy rainfall that Mumbai receives every monsoon causes extreme havoc and with the destruction of mangroves, the flooding and waterlogging problems in the city is only going to worsen.

Young lives fading in Internet suicide groups

Suicide, Dark, Online Suicide, Online, Internet, Dark Internet, Hacking, Youngsters, Teenage Suicide, Depression, FearWe hear of suicides so often these days, and it’s almost a trend. Somewhat we are so used to such reports that hardly irritate us anymore. If we look into some of the cases, their causes for death almost seem trivial to those who are living and those they’ve left behind. Some people say that suicide affects the people left behind. But taking one self’s life is never petty, it is never a light tête-à-tête; it is scary, frightening and very existent. Two days back, a friend of mine on Facebook, posted a suicide note on his timeline and used very scared display pictures of death to hint his FB friends that he is taking away his life. It was midnight and we all friends were worried, and he lives far away from us as we thought by the time, we reached him we may not even be seeing him alive. We called his parents who stay in Bihar, his mother was inconsolable, we had no money in hand, and my friends kept calling the police station, ambulance, and his office colleagues. It was a living hell for us and asked me those terrified three hours of our lives. Atlas there was a sign of relief that the man in his 40’s was alive. But we died our death in those long hours of depressing approaches.

Worried by the recent reports of two persons committing suicide in north Bengal after receiving invitations to join online killer game ‘Momo Challenge’, the state administration has started taking precautionary steps to combat the threat, but the suicides of young lives need much more than the probe or directives. Suicide has been linked to mental disorders such as depression, bipolar disorder, schizophrenia, borderline personality disorder, and alcoholism and drug abuse, broken relationships, work pressure and some may use it as a tool to blackmail or weaken the opposite side. It is said that death only needs an excuse, and it is true. But suicide isn’t just a state of mind that develops overnight. It’s a lingering thought in the person’s life, and finally, when they hit rock bottom, they don’t see the end of the tunnel anymore, and they call their final shots. At that moment, living becomes much harder than death could ever be for them. Anyways, these days it has become very common and sometimes it has become a tool to take revenge. When it comes to teenage lives, I get more worried because they have over choked emotions but hardly any source to vent it out. Here comes the role of the internet. From birth to death, you have many ways to discover and end your life.

For now, Blue Whale, with its exploitation of self-pity and teenage posturing, is marching around the world. It doesn’t need the ugly Russian background to thrive: Adolescent misery is borderless even though a scaremongering message has been shared on WhatsApp among parents in India, warning them about the dangers of the game. Though, police have found no evidence that the game exists and has become nothing more than an urban myth.

It’s described as a game, but the Blue Whale Challenge is far from a game. Young teens who accept the challenge are encouraged to complete a series of tasks which get more and more sinister, and at the end of the game the player is urged to take their own life to “win.” However, a more sinister double-suicide early in 2017 has been linked directly to Blue Whale. The game that’s got parents and officials worried in India. The name Blue Whale comes from a song by the Russian rock band Lumen. Its opening lines are, “Why to scream / when no one hears / what we’re talking about?” and it features a “huge blue whale” that “can’t break through the net.” By posting on social networks using specific hashtags or joining to particular groups, teens — usually between the ages of 10 and 14 – get spotted by “curators,” who, after vetting the potential player, set up to 50 daily tasks leading up to the ultimate one, suicide. The tasks involve cutting one and taking other risks. For the last ten days, the player needs to wake up at an appointed early morning hour, listen to music and contemplate death. Those who get cold feet and want to leave the game receive threats, often that their parents will be killed. This is what is circulated across, but yet no authentication is done about it. The Blue Whale suicide game goes by many names including ‘A Silent House,’ ‘A Sea of Whales’ and ‘Wake Me Up At 4:20 am. It takes 50 days to complete and is played primarily via the website VKontakte, which is a popular social network in Russia, now the same site has come up with the English language too, to connect globally.

This year, discussion of “death groups” has revived father many teenagers finishing their lives posting pics online. Reports of adolescents playing the game emerged from Kerala, Maharashtra and Punjab. The number of teenage suicides in India increased the previous year. Vkontakte and Instagram, two of the most popular digital destinations for adolescents, are also seeking to counter this scourge by removing posts containing Blue Whale-related hashtags. Instagram is also sending messages to posters suggesting counselling and offering help. The weakness of tying teen suicides to the social network groups and games like Blue Whale is, of course, that there’s no proof of causation. A teenager who is contemplating suicide will always look for like-minded people, and social networks are just the easiest place to look. Since the game is widespread, some Indian teenagers have sought out “curators” to troll them.

People, especially adolescents, tend to kill themselves in “space-time clusters” because of imitative behaviour. But then, the teen suicide rate has long been higher than average. There is the additional pressure of living in a corrupt, quasi-capitalist system where there’s no clear path to success for kids from families without political and professional connections. It’s particularly hard to see a future growing up in a grim, high-rise residential block on the outskirts of an industrial city, with parents drinking, quarrelling or absent and school providing no respite. That’s often the story that heads an Indian teen suicide. These online suicide groups encourage such miserable children to commit suicide by convincing them that they are “fat” or “losers” in this world, however they tell them that there is another world and there they will be among the chosen ones. Around the world, police have started to warn parents about the dangers of these online “death groups” and suicide games. But we the alert citizens need more vigilance and eye on young minds, to prevent them from such traps.

Bengaluru violence: Cost of damage will be recovered from culprits, says CM Yediyurappa

BS Yediyurappa, Yediyurappa, Bengaluru Violence, Bengaluru, SC

The Karnataka government on Monday decided to recover the costs of damage from the culprits in Bengaluru violence, Chief Minister BS Yediyurappa said.

He said that the government will approach the high court for appointment of claim commissioner as per the Supreme Court order.

“Our govt has decided to assess the damage caused to public and private property in violent incidents in KG Halli and DG Halli and recover the costs from the culprits. We will approach Hon’ble High Court for appointment of Claim Commissioner as per Hon’ble Supreme Court order,” Yediyurappa tweeted.

Yediyurappa said that a team of three special prosecutors will be appointed for speedy trial in the cases.

“Stringent action has been initiated against the culprits of DJ Halli and KG Halli violent incidents including invoking of the Unlawful Activities Prevention Act– UAPA Act,” he tweeted.

“A Special Investigation Team has already been formed to conduct a detailed investigation in the matter and a team of three special prosecutors will be appointed for speedy trial of the cases. SIT will consider invoking Goonda Act if warranted,” he added in a series of tweets.

Earlier in the day, one more accused was arrested in connection with violence, said police. The accused has been identified as Samiuddin.

“One Samiuddin was detained in connection with violence in DJ Halli. It was found that he was in touch with accused of RSS activist Rudresh murder case and Al-Hind members for the past few years. He will be taken into custody and probe will be done,” said Sandeep Patil, Joint CP, Crime, Bengaluru.

A total of 35 accused were arrested on Sunday in connection with Bengaluru violence, taking the total number of arrests in the cases to 340, informed the police.

The imposition of Section 144 of Code of Criminal Procedure (CrPC) in areas under DJ Halli and KG Halli police station limits has also been extended till 6 am on August 18. The situation in the area remains tense. Section 144 has been extended twice in the area.

An FIR was registered on the complaint of Congress MLA Akhanda Srinivas Murthy at DJ Halli Police station three days after the violence broke out in parts of Bengaluru on August 11, over an alleged “derogatory” social media post by his nephew, the police said.

Among the accused who have been arrested are Naveen, the nephew of MLA Srinivas Murthy, and include Kaleem Pasha, the husband of Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike corporator from Nagwara ward Irshad Begum.

Violence broke out in parts of Bengaluru on August 11, over an alleged “derogatory” social media post. At least three people were killed and nearly 60 police personnel were injured in the incident.

City detectives to investigate Sushant’s death

Sushant Singh Rajput, Sushant, Detectives, Rajani Pandit, SSR, CBI, Mumbai Police, Bihar, Police, Rhea Chakraborty, Probe, Investigation

Sushant Singh Rajput died on June 14, at the age of 34. Several law enforcement agencies such as the Mumbai and Patna police, the Enforcement Directorate, and the Central Bureau of Investigation have been involved in investigating the case. Subsequent delay in investigations has prompted private detectives of the city to probe the case to find out the genuineness of the entire saga. They firmly believe that there has to be some political pressure on Mumbai police; otherwise, they would not delay in bringing out the truth, as the Mumbai police are much skilled in such investigations.

Colaba based private detective told under the condition of anonymity that, “The Mumbai police are one the sharpest force, they are not only brilliant but fully equipped to solve such cases, and I wonder why there is No FIR so far in this case? Who is stopping them? Why are they lingering on with unnecessary investigations? I am also doing my investigations to reach the truth and expose all those if at all they are involved in this case wrongly”.

Rajani Pandit, an Indian private investigator who is regarded as the first woman private Detective in the state of Maharashtra, told Afternoon Voice that, “The people are losing faith in Mumbai police due to the delay in investigations” people lost patience and demanding for CBI inquiry”.

Media is also playing spoiler by baking their stories on a half-truth. Viewers and readers are misinformed on Sushant’s death; we are ready to guide Mumbai police if they seek our help”, Pandit said. She also said, “unless the truth is not exposed, people should stop attacking his girlfriend.”

These days there is a huge online campaign ran by conspiracy theories has been demanding a Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) investigation into the matter. Earlier, Sushant’s girlfriend Rhea Chakraborty, his maternal uncle, and an online campaign demanded the same. Maharashtra Home Minister, Anil Deshmukh, denied a CBI probe was required. However, Tushar Mehta, Solicitor General of India, told the Supreme Court that the executive branch of India’s national government had accepted the recommendation by Bihar’s state government for a CBI inquiry into Rajput’s death. On that basis, officials said, CBI has decided to start the probe.

Actor Sushant Singh Rajput’s lawyer, Priyanka Khimani, who started working with him in 2019, has said that she barely knew Disha Salian, who is said to have managed him briefly. Both Sushant and Disha’s deaths were ruled suicides. They died within a week of each other, fuelling conspiracy theories.

Priyanka said, “I never met Disha. It is completely weird and invalid. I did not have any interaction or email exchange. I remember reaching out to Sushant that your name is being dragged into it when this news broke out. This is how much we knew her.” Sushant’s lawyer also said that she doesn’t believe in the conspiracy theories surrounding his death, because in her opinion, Sushant was the sort of person who couldn’t be influenced by external factors. She said, “When I sit back and if I have to think to myself, deep down in my gut, as heartbroken I know I am, I know it was his decision. That’s what I am inclined to believe; he was a man who made his decisions. He would change his mind often. The man I knew was the man who made his decisions. I never knew he was ever influenced by external factors. He didn’t care about other’s opinions. If people knew him, these things wouldn’t be discussed in the media.”

On June 14, 2020, Rajput was found dead, hanging from the ceiling fan in his home in Bandra, Mumbai. He had reportedly been suffering from depression. The Mumbai Police commenced an investigation, stating that the death was being treated as a suicide. The postmortem report stated that the cause of death was “asphyxia due to hanging, and called it a “clear case of suicide.” No foul play was found. The viscera report likewise ruled out foul play. On July 25, Rajput’s family lodged a first information report with police in Patna, where his father lives, accusing Rhea Chakraborty and five others of abetment of suicide. Since then, the demand for CBI has gone viral.
