RAHUL GANDHI PRESS AT BHIWANDI COURT 05

On the anniversary of the day Mahatama Gandhi was assassinated, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi appeared in a Bhiwandi court where he’s being sued for defamation for saying “the RSS people killed Gandhi”.

The court, however, adjourned the case for March 3, when charges against Rahul are likely to be framed.

Speaking outside the court, Rahul Gandhi called the case as a battle of ideologies. “I remember Gandhiji today… My fight is against an ideology. It’s a fight against those who killed Gandhi, against those who have removed Gandhiji from Khadi and Gramodyog calendars,” said Rahul.

He said that Gandhi lives in the heart of every Indian and that cannot be erased.

The Bhiwandi court, where Rahul Gandhi appeared in connection with a defamation case over his alleged remarks against the RSS in connection with the assassination of Gandhi, adjourned the hearing till March 3.

The case against the Congress Vice President was filed by a Rashtriya Swayamsewak Sangh (RSS) functionary, Rajesh Kunte, over his speech in Bhiwandi on March 6, 2014.

Last August, it looked like Rahul Gandhi may be cleared of defamation charges after he backtracked and told the Supreme Court he never meant to accuse the whole of the RSS of assassinating Gandhi.

In September, Rahul withdrew a petition he filed in the Supreme Court challenging the case and said he would instead face trial, said. This, after the top court refused to interfere with the criminal proceedings pending against him before the trial court.

Rahul made comments about the RSS and Gandhi, the ‘Father of the Nation’, during a Thane rally in March 2014.
