Virat Kohli is upbeat about Royal Challengers Bangalore’s (RCB) chances at the Indian Premier League (IPL) that begins April 16, and he believes he has the team that can go all the way, saying: “Hopefully, this would be RCB’s year.”
Kohli – who has been in scintillating form for India in the last 12 months and was the Player of the Tournament at the ICC World Twenty20 – will once again lead Bangalore at IPL 7 with the UAE hosting the first 20 matches of the league that will see Mumbai Indians defend the title they won in 2013.
“We try every year to win and we have a strong team. We will try to win the trophy because we have got a good combination this time and we will try to utilise it and try to win the trophy,” Kohli said. The Vijay Mallya-owned franchise bought Yuvraj Singh at the 2014 players’ auction for a whopping Rs 14 crore, making the former Pune Warriors India and Kings XI Punjab player the costliest buy.
“Hopefully this year would be RCB’s year,” the skipper said at the event of team’s jersey launch. The RCB players will sport Huawei logo on their jerseys at IPL 7.
“Having Huawei on the shirt, and maybe the lucky logo that we needed for the last few years. Just really excited and looking forward to the IPL as well. We have a great team, great bunch of guys ready to perform well. We do well every year, we excite a lot of people in the IPL,” Kohli said.
“This time around we will hope to go a few more steps ahead and actually get that trophy. We have added a few more quality players in the side and I am sure we will come out with flying colours,” he said.
