Ours is a society where brutal and vicious incidents like the rape of innocent children happen on a regular basis. The horrendous case of Asifa’s rape and murder should be enough to highlight that the number of these crimes is increasing because criminals know they won’t be apprehended. They know they can roam the streets freely. It breaks my heart to accept that we have failed to provide a safe environment to our children to live in. Asifa, an eight-year-old girl who became a victim of lust and greed, would not have thought that her life will be taken away from her in such a brutal manner. Her doting parents wouldn’t have thought that their daughter will die such a painful death.
It is good to note that this incident has invited the much-needed attention of the authorities which, in the past, haven’t done much to tackle child abuse cases. There is a dire need to give strict punishments to the people who are involved in such heinous crimes so that such incidents will never happen again.
