As per a RTI query filed by activist Anil Galgali it was revealed that Maharashtra government’s ‘Directorate of Arts’ does not have a full time Director since last 12 years. This high-level Directorate was created 15 years ago, as an apex body to head all state government organization related to Arts across Maharashtra for coordinating their activities. Galgali had sought the information regarding  appointment of Director and Incharge Director in last 15 years. Prof. M.B. Ingle was appointed as its first Director on 1st June 1999 and continued in office for five years up to 30th June 2004. He was the first and the last full-time director to be appointed in the organisation. The position was not filled since then till to date.

During this period nine part time Directors have been handed over charge one after the other for running the affairs of Directorate, Public Information Officer N.M. Waghmode informed Galgali. Prof. L.M. Yevale, Prof. S.B. Thakre, Prof N.V. Pasalkar, Dr. R.C. Balapure, Prof. H.R. Nagdive, P.H. Wagde, G.B. Dhanorkar, Prof. G.G. Waghmare and Prof Rajiv Mishra have handled part-time charge of the Directorate. Present incumbent Mishra has been heading the Directorate since 1st December 2015.

Galgali had specifically inquired in the RTI about who is responsible for filling up the vacancy of Director of this Directorate? With the present Higher & Technical Education Minister Vinod Tawde facing the flak for his overall non-performance, Galgali has requested Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis to intervene in this matter, to appoint a Director of Arts at the earliest.
