Noise pollution had reached alarming proportions in the city and High Court’s decision to give back Mumbai its silence zones is a welcome relief. The verdict means Mumbai still has silence zones and the authorities will have to crack down on the use of loudspeakers near schools, colleges, courts and hospitals. Noise pollution causes health hazards and no wonder ENT’s are overworked in the city at the moment. Infrastructure work, be it metro or building construction needs be stalled after 7 pm so that people can sleep in peace. More than restrictions, education is the need of the hour so that citizens follow decibel guidelines which are beneficial for all!
