We salute Major Gogoi, your strategy of saving the election officers and their security men without shooting rubber bullets or even an actual fight. We are grateful that the Chief of Army Staff has commended him. The armed Forces are many times sent into battle with their hands tied! There are people who say that is the reason they joined the army! If they shoot the stone pelters with rubber bullets, they are reviled as blinding our youth. It is a no win situation. The peaceniks are baying for Major Gogois’s blood. But all Indians are not like that there is a large silent majority, me included who appreciates the presence of mind and dexterity with which he saved the ballot box, the election officers, their security men, the stone pelters, even the person he tied to the front of the van. We salute the chief of army staff, the army and major Gogoi whose strategy brings to mind Shivaji Maharaj’s strategy of ‘Escaping from Agra.’
