Who raped the Nun?

Not only in mainstream news channels and newspapers but old nun’s rape story has gone viral on social media also. Somewhere, there are lots of contradictions within the story’s versions, which are making me unhappy. As media reports said a 72-year-old nun, who was gangraped during an assault on a convent school in West Bengal’s Nadia district, left hospital and flew out of Kolkata to an unknown destination, however she was officially discharged at 2:20am but it took another 25 minutes for her to collect her belongings and leave. In hospital records, she is 62 years old. She went to Thiruvananthapuram to her house from Dum Dum Airport. She walked normal while traveling and had no health issues.

Some church people said that when the burglars were molesting two other nuns, the victim intervened and said they should stop as the sisters were not well. They then suggested that she should come along with them, and forcibly tried to lift her, but the nun said she would walk. Sources said she was taken to a separate room. She was found there at 4 am, lying in a pool of blood. The question here is, as per medical report there was no vaginal bleeding or wounds. Moreover, it’s hard to believe that the rapists were so soft-hearted and left young nurses as they were unwell and raped older one. When these four guys were raping senior nun, why these nuns did not shout for help? If these nuns were staying in the school, then why school authorities failed to provide security to nuns? Sources added that some of the intruders tried to forcibly take rings and chains from the nuns, who pleaded that they should leave those items alone as “they belong to God”. When the items belonged to God then why they wore it? Anyway, besides cash from the school coffers, the miscreants looted the sisters’ laptops, mobile phones and other belongings, ransacked their rooms and rummaged through their cupboards and bags. Before leaving, the miscreants desecrated the chapel at the convent.

The alleged rapist of the 72-year-old nun and his accomplices appeared “remorseless” after the crime and treated themselves to “imported chocolates, cake and pastries” meant for the students. A source in the convent told that after allegedly raping the nun in the early hours of Saturday, the men said “ab kuch khana-peena ho jaye (let’s have some food)”. They raided the refrigerators in which the food was stored. The source said the chocolates, cake and pastries were brought for the students by a sister who had returned from a foreign trip. These shows the culprits were there in the school for hours, and nuns and staff were in good numbers, then what made them remain silent while these dramas were going on? They threw away the food; they could not eat. They broke open all the doors and cabinets. The miscreants took away around Rs. 7 lakh, which included the examination fees and money kept in the locker for buying study materials for the students. Why huge amount was in nun’s custody when she remained unprotected?

Also, after just three days of rape, Ranaghat sub-divisional hospital superintendent made a statement that the Sister Superior of Convent of Jesus and Mary, who had been declared fit for discharge, was released from hospital at around 02:45 am. If she was in pool of blood, then how could she recover in three days? In normal cases, I have never seen hospitals discharging patients at mid-night?

India does not need Christian charities. These charities are nothing but conversion tools. Christian missionaries and such charities are converting Muslims, Hindus by luring them. Two others were with the 72-year-old nun when the miscreants broke into the convent.

What has come as a surprise is that the police already have detailed versions of witnesses and CCTV footage of the culprits. The Criminal Investigation Department has released their sketches. The motive of the crime is still not clear. The local people suggest that dacoits, without any insider information, could not have scaled a 10-foot wall and took the nuns across several rooms where the cash was kept. Recently, the school authorities were threatened with dire consequences over a dispute involving school administration. Something is not right here. I am little doubtful about the crime that took place in the Church.

Is it not possible, the money which was taken by dacoits, was to be used for conversions? How these evil persons get information that this much of huge amount is kept in convent school? What was their motive — to rob or to rape?

If we look at police theory, police declare that they were hired by someone. How does the police source know they were “hired”, did they hire them? They are releasing statements so confidently that they were ‘hired’ for the project. Yet, police did not start the investigation.

Moreover, after all this brutality, nun has forgiven them but she added a sentence that what has happened to her should not happen to anyone else. As this period of Lent is very special for Christians, she said that the way she saw it, her suffering helped her identify with the suffering of Christ at this time, and she hoped it would yield in bringing blessings to everyone. Before leaving, she blessed all doctors and hospital staff. The nun also expressed gratitude for the treatment and care at the hospital. It means, she is settled with the issues? How can a woman forgive her rapists? There is another twist in this saga, which I will write tomorrow.
