Singer-composer Bappi Lahiri says although he is not fully aware of the details of the #MeToo movement, he feels women should come out with their stories of harassment immediately.

Bappi said while he is not trying to shame anyone, it does not make sense when a person speaks about an issue years later.

“I heard and read about a few cases here. The old cases which are coming out now, my point is, why did you not speak about it when it happened? Why didn’t you register a complaint, file an FIR?

“The news which is coming out now, I wish it came out earlier. Today we are launching the film’s music, there’s no point talking about it ten years later.”

Bappi was speaking at the music launch of “Mausam Ikrar Ke Do Pal Pyaar Ke”. The singer said he followed the #MeToo movement when it had rocked Hollywood and believes one should speak up if they have proof.

“In India, women are respected the most. Mothers, wives, sisters, daughters. I live in USA too and I can say our culture is really good. I am not speaking a lot because I am not aware of all the details… If you don’t have proof, then it’s wrong. All these are big people of the industry,” he said.

The film industry has been rocked with several sexual harassment allegations against people like Vikas Bahl, Nana Patekar, Alok Nath, Subhash Ghai, Sajid Khan among others.
