The city police claimed to have solved a nearly three-year-old case related to the murder of a boy with the arrest of his mother.
Neha Chaugule, resident of Dadar Government Colony, was arrested on Thursday as it is suspected that she had poisoned and strangled her nine-year-old son Amey in March 2013 at their house, they said
Amey had apparently came to know about her extramarital affair and threatened to tell his father after which Chaugule killed him to hide her affair, police said.
The woman, however, in her confession, claimed that she murdered the boy as she was fed up of his mischiefs and neighbours’ complaints about him, they said.
“Since the accused was victim’s mother, we had to approach cautiously. We arrested her only after our investigation and forensic report clearly established that she had committed the crime,” a senior police officer said.
Police have registered a case under sections 302 (murder), 328 (causing hurt by means of poison) and 201 (causing disappearance of evidence) of the IPC against her.
Further probe is underway, police added.
