The Union Identification Authority of India introduced a new concept of “Virtual ID” to protect Aadhaar privacy, is welcome. Under this, Aadhaar-issuing body will start accepting it from March 1, 2018. From June 1, 2018 it will be compulsory for all agencies to accept the Virtual ID by their users. If on the one hand it curtails Aadhaar holder’s fare and lit a blaze of hope that there is no third between two, on the other hand, what will happen with lakhs of homeless at night shelter homes in the winter who have not any residential identity? That is a question on Centre’s insistence on Aadhaar cards, wants answer.
