One nation one tax would soon be a reality as GST has been adopted as all political parties including the Congress have in principle given their nod for the passage of the bill. Corruption in all certainty would come down as loopholes to plug black marketing would be taken care of in GST compliances which is good news for our country. People doing business and running corporate houses too would be at ease as an single tax called ‘GST’ would override all other taxes which would mean easy on compliances and saving lot of money and time apart from man hours which hitherto was spent on administrative work.
However, GST would come with a lot of hardship for citizens as well as the tax won’t distinguish between the rich and the poor which would increase inequality. The ‘Aadhar card’ would have more meaning and significance in the ‘GST Raj’. The government can use the scheme to compensate the poor via Aadhar card credit if they are exorbitantly charged in the GST regime which should not be difficult if the entire population is covered under the Aadhar card scheme which should be made mandatory for all. GST for sure will have teething problems but the same could be taken care of by good governance and an responsible opposition!
