An opportunity lost to square series

Team India was on cloud nine and much was expected in the T-20 series as the Dhoni led side was famous for giving finishing touches in the past.  But Team India counted the chickens before they were actually hatched. World T-20 Champions upset the applecart and won the first match by one run and the second one was abandoned due to rain after West Indies was contained below 150 score and there was a chance of equalising the two match series 1-1.

West Indies started on a bright note making 126 runs in 9.3 overs for a headway start. The second wicket fell after the score touched 200 in 15.3 over.  The leather hunt Team India saw was due to hurricane innings of 79 ) 33 balls) of Johnson Chrles and Ewin Lewis blistering 100 of 49 balls all shaped things for a wonderful finish. West Indies achieved 12.25 overs rate whereas Team India just lagged behind with 12.2 rate and that is the difference between the two sides. Ashwin was the only bowler to complete quota of four over for 36 runs. Stuart Binny gave away 32 runs in a solitary over and that was the turning point to an interesting T-20 contest.

Team India lost their first wicket at 31 and the second one at 48. Virat Kohli perished to a catch by Fletcher and it was a shaky start. Rohit’s 62 and Rahul’s 110 stem the rot and brought the total near the West Indies side’s big score but Dhoni perished of the last ball of the match to handover the match on a platter to the West Indies outfit. Thus the finisher Dhoni finished the game and Team India lost the chance of going one up in the series. Ewin Lewis was the man of the match for his hectic hundred. Team India was counting upon the second match to square the series.

West Indies side was folded up for 143 in the second match with R. Ashwin taking 2 for 11 to start the slide. Charles remained the top scorer with 43. India started on a sound note scoring 15 for no loss and then came rain and shattered the hopes of squaring the series. That was a wrap of the two match T20 series between India and West Indies. The men from the Caribbean have won it 1-0 as the second match got washed out. The series was a roller-coaster ride where in one match the batsmen had all the say while the bowlers dominated the other. It was a good venue to host this series and gave the residents of USA the taste of cricket. Let us hope we have many more matches over here in the future.
