Legendary tennis players John McEnroe and Goran Ivanisevic believe world number one Andy Murray has a great chance of making it to the finals of the ongoing French Open.

McEnroe’s comments came after the Murray swept aside Russian Karen Khachanov 6-3, 6-4, 6-4 to book his place in the quarter-finals of the Roland Garros for the fourth consecutive time.

It was also Murray’s 650th match win of his career.

Insisting that Murray is tougher to beat in slams, McEnroe felt that the Scot has come a long way from where he was two weeks ago when he entered the tournament on a run of three losses from four.

“I think he’s been great. I don’t think he was as far away as people were saying. It’s a lot of attitude. He’s tougher to beat in the Slams,” Sport24 quoted McEnroe as saying.

He further backed Murray to beat Japan’s Kei Nishikori in Wednesday’s quarter-final clash.

“The draw looked fairly tough in the beginning but now you would have to say you would be somewhat surprised if he didn’t get at least to the semis, if not the final,” McEnroe said.

Echoing similar views, former Wimbledon champion Goran Ivanisevic said that although Murray started the tournament searching for form, he has managed to bring himself back on track as the French Open progressed.

“He didn’t start the season like he want and then he started to be really not confident. But he has found himself, he has found himself in the right moment – when you’re the top seed, last year’s finalist and you want to win,” Ivanisevic said.

“You have Ivan Lendl in your team, the guy has so much experience. Andy knows what he has to do. Sometimes you can play so bad before a Grand Slam, but the Grand Slam comes and you win somehow, and you don’t know why. He is in form at the right moment and he is playing better and better every round,” he added.
