It was a very difficult call for the match referee and the fellow commentators to pick the Man of the match award for the Kanpur test. The easy way to pick is to prefer the bowler, who performed well in both the innings of the test match. In that case Ashwin stood a good chance of winning the award. His 40 in the first innings when the chips were down was useful to boost Indian side total. In all Ashwin took 10 wickets for the match and did not allow the Kiwi side to make a match of it on the final day. Moreover he took the prize scalp of Williamson in both the innings and that decided the game for India. Ashwin should have been adjudged the Man of the match award instead of Ravindra Jadeja.
