The demonetisation drive has changed the fortunes of BJP as the party registered impressive performance in the municipal council and nagar panchayat elections. The false publicity given to the ruling party turned out to be a boost in the end. BJP won 851 seats and with ally Shiv Sena getting 514 seats it was big catch before the UP and other assembly elections. By virtue of winning more seats BJP was able to corner 52 civic chief’s post and Sena followed it with 25 such posts in the final analysis. Thus lotus blooms in Maharashtra in the civic polls and the drubbing received by both NCP and Congress put them in third and fourth places in the final tally. Even the anti-incumbency factor could not work in their favour. Thus BJP has made inroads into the traditional strongholds of Congress and NCP. It was indeed a big boost for BJP under the present political scenario.
