BMC’s bold move

It is a welcome move that the civic body of Mumbai is in a damage control mode and wish to develop 159 playgrounds with a package of relief of Rs.96 crore project. It is a step in the right direction as the playgrounds in the metro city are in bad shape and require immediate face lift. In this context it is a matter of great concern that the grounds meant for playing are used as political platform and that make them lose their real value. With so many meeting taking place during elections and other occasions, these grounds are becoming a place for throwing waste and there is no upkeep after the occasion. Children, who opt to choose these playgrounds for grooming their talent in sports feel the pinch and were forced to go for getting better facilities in the vicinity. It was long overdue to give shape to these grounds and offer best facilities to play games like cricket, kabaddi, kho-kho, basketball, volleyball, handball and athletics. As we have few stadiums at our disposal to provide the opportunity to the upcoming stars, it is time to improve the condition of the grounds within the city. After all the present young talent is the future of our country in the sporting field. BMC’s bold and purposeful initiative came after lots of criticism in maintaining the open playgrounds across the city.
